Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
I've been a voracious reader as far back as I can remember, before we moved to the Bay Area when I was five, hiding the fact that I could read from my mother so she wouldn't stop reading to me. When she was reading to me she wasn't screaming at me. So, naturally, growing up with that kind of psychotic dysfunctional background I HAD to become a writer. After well over a thousand web articles on dogs, seeing them attributed to fake names—a good thing after they'd been edited by someone's special buddy barely acquainted with fifth grade grammar and usage and none with anything dog 20, I quit. It had been keeping me from my own writing anyway.
So, now I'm in the throes of writing "The Black Dog Dialogues," which was supposed to be a short story, novella at most, for an anthology. 120,000 words later . . . It's the one good thing did come from the frustration of the web articles. The idea began to form after I wrote a series of articles about the Black Dog mythos that's found in most Occidental mythologies, past and present. It's not at all what I expected to be writing. I thought I'd be writing fantasy lit, akin to Patricia McKillip, Juliet Marillier, Pamela Dean . . . but here I am, working in what I can only describe as trans-genre, not only the novel, but the short stories it was supposed to have accompanied. These stories I write as R. Rommalb. I haven't given up pure fantasy, but those pieces I write as R. Liralen.
I also screened for New Millennium Writings until the original publisher, Don Williams, gave it to his daughter. It's a wonderful publication and its contests carry some prestige.
I live with Bimmer, a 15 year old GSD/wolf mix, Mr. Perfect; Kharma, a Fila Brasileiro, The Empress of Everything; Tallulah, The Snuggler, an American Pit Bull Terrier and Stryker, the American Hairless Terrier, aka The Terrierist.
Happy to be here!
Hi everyone, I'm Rhett C Bruno. I've been writing since before I can remember. I self published some when I was young, but I just published my debut science fiction novel, The CIRCUIT: EXECUTOR RISING. I just discovered this group and think its great. It's been difficult so far to connect with readers. I read mostly science fiction and fantasy, but I have little time to read. There's always more writing, editing and marketing to be done! I look forward to being a member of this group.

Hi, I'm Kimberly and new to this site and group. I have recently resumed my love of reading and writing. So, I feel like I'm late to the party, even when I knew it would be a great way to spend the evening. Love all the comments, resources, and suggestions.
Hi everyone, I've just published my first book on Amazon, "The Last Challenge". I am a little dumb struck at the moment, I've only just done it and sold 11 copies already! Is this about the norm? Can anyone tell me how to get readers to review if I give away copies of the book? Any advice much appreciated!

Hi Everyone! I'm Rob D Smith. I'm a first time author. I just published my first serial novel Dang: Episode 1. I'm cruising through a huge learning curve as a newbie indie author. I'm hoping to meet some people and learn more about self-publishing. I'm looking forward to joining in the discussion!
Hello everyone, My name is Marjorie and I am a reviewer. I love to read all genre except exotica. But if you have no one to read it for you then I will. My reviews to to amazon, goodreads, netgalley, books a million, barnes and noble along with others. Anyway just wanted to stop by and say hi to all. If I can ever be of help to anyone just let me know. My email is: mbsplce@charter.net. I don't have a blog yet but am working on it. <3
Hi everyone,My name is Annalise, and I'm both a writer and an avid reader. I've self-published the first book in my War of the Sidhe series, and am working on the next two. And I read a little bit of everything whenever I'm not writing. I have a blog at annalisejsullivan.wordpress.com, although there isn't much on there as of yet. I look forward to getting to know everyone and I'm really excited to join the group!
Hi Analise glad to meet you. I love to read and I read all genres except for erotica. I really don't care for it. But if there is no one to do so for any author I will so it can be reviewed. I review every book I read. My reviews to to Amazon, Goodreads, Netgalley, Books a Million, Barnes and Noble, and others. I don't have a blog as of yet but am trying to get one done. It is so confusing for me :( but hopefully I will get one done :D.
Welcome to the new kids! Majorie- understand your problems with the blog. For us semi-Luddites, life is hard. I love my computer [Mac Mini] and my iPod, but I refuse to own a cell phone [I watch my kids having to replace them 3-4 times a year for every reason under the sun]. Intrigued by your offer to Beta Read - I sure need it! Review would be awesome, but it's going to be awhile before I publish. Writing is easy - editing is hell! ;-)
I'll drop you a note...

Authors and publishers consider reviewers "fresh meat" because you're a treasured asset.

Hi, My name is Doug Oudin and I'm a new author. I published my first book 'Between Two Harbors, Reflections of a Catalina Island Harbormaster' last year, and have a second book, a novel almost ready for publication. My first book did well as a first-time effort, with good reviews on Amazon. I'd like to try and expand my efforts, and thought I would try Goodreads as a starting point. Any suggestions?

I'm a blind author too, with an older brother who is also blind. We both write as well, but our writing styles are very different, so though we discuss ideas with each other from time to time, we don't work on books together, and he hasn't gotten aroud to publishing any of his work yet.
