John Maberry (silvercityjohn) | 5 comments Waiting for Westmoreland is my memoir. I wanted to be a writer since second grade, but a difficult childhood (father dying when I was 7 and mother when I was 16) of loss and poverty convinced me being a starving author wasn't a good plan. So I thought college and a resulting day job was needed. Vietnam and other disillusions made college a quest, not a job-trajectory. So I put off writing until retirement. With WFW out of the way, fiction will be coming soon. See my Goodreads page here. John Maberrymy current, eclectic, blog is linked to Goodreads. I will be changing that blog link to a new one in a few weeks that will feature writing excerpts. Glad to be here in this group and I will be happy to interact with anyone on topics of mutual interest or to respond to questions about my book. Thanks.

Deborah Benjamin | 3 comments "The Death of Perry Many Paws" was just published and has a five star rating on Amazon! My name is Deborah and this book is the first in a series of cozy, humorous mysteries featuring a group of friends 'of a certain age'. It's available on Amazon and Kindle. Currently working on "Death of A Hot Flasher".

I've been reading mysteries forever, usually three a week. I read exclusively Victorian and Edwardian mysteries for about 4 years and am now into crafting/scrapbooking/knitting/food contemporary mysteries. I love a series. I want to fall in love with the characters; to make them my friends and to be able to hang out with them for more than one book. I've tried to do the same with the characters in my books.

I welcome feedback on "The Death of Perry Many Paws". I want people to fall in love with the characters and the town of Birdsey Falls just as I have done in so many of the mystery series I've read.

Excited to be a part of a group of people who love mysteries!

Deborah

Peter Last (petermlast) | 22 comments I'm really a poser when it comes right down to it.

I'm a civil engineering student who is working toward a commission in the air force (ROTC program). I also pretend to be a writer.

I started writing because I love to read, but I would always come up with "better" endings, middles, fight scenes, etc. for the books I was reading. So I started to write.

End of Story or Fin or whatever you want to say.

Christopher Patterson | 13 comments I live in Tucson, Arizona with my wife Kellie. We currently have two kids. Savannah is five and in Kindergarten and Shaymus is one. My wife is a nurse at Tucson Medical Center. I was a high school English teacher for seven years before I transitioned over to Government, Economics, and History. I am the head wrestling coach at Sahuaro High School in Tucson AZ and have been for ten years. I am also a coach on the Sahuaro football staff. I fostered a love of the arts at an early age when I started playing the guitar at the age of seven. My mother encouraged me greatly in my musical endeavors, even getting me up at 5am to practice since I was also busy with church and sports. In fact, I spent my first year at the University of Arizona as a classical guitar performance major.

I have loved action and adventure as well as science fiction and fantasy for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching the original Star Wars movies and Star Trek series. I read The Hobbit at a very early age, loved stories about mythology, and have always had a fascination with the European Middle Ages. As soon as I could, I played Dungeons and Dragons and started reading any Forgotten Realms or Dragon Lance book I could get my hands on. I also read Ursula K Le Guinn's Wizard of Earthsea series, C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, and, of course, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.

I started writing my own fantasy adventures on my grandma's typewriter. Each one she would title, "The Next Great American Novel" and I find myself extremely lucky and blessed that my family encouraged my creativity. It was in college, studying Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona, that I started taking writing seriously and exploring a career as an author. After my first year in music, I found that that was not the path I wanted, but knew I wanted something involving the arts, and so I transitioned to Creative Writing. I actually started writing what would eventually become the Shadow's Fire Trilogy in college.

I am also active at Desert Hope, the church that my family attends. I am very actively involved in the high school ministries and the music ministries. Church and faith are a major part of my family's life and I have tried to implement that influence in my writing.

I am also sincere about fitness and health and I have been a competitive power lifter since high school. I workout as much as I can and try to pass that love on to my students and athletes.

A Chance Beginning: Book One of the Shadow's Fire Trilogy is my first novel.
Christopher Patterson

Samreen Ahsan (samreenahsan) | 11 comments Hi,
I'm the author of a romance fiction series. The title: A Silent Prayer: A Prayer Series I is the winner of Best Romance in 2014 Los Angeles Book Festival and 2014 Paris Book Festival—and rated five stars by Readers' Favorite.

Set in the beautiful city of Toronto, this captivating and thrilling romance takes you to a romantic and spiritual journey with Adam Gibson—a young and powerful businessman of Toronto—gifted by God with an altruistic soul but atheist by belief, who falls in love with a cursed soul and finds God—not through a miracle but the presence of demons around him.

It is an emotionally charged story of a young woman—Rania Ahmed, endowed with hypnotic beauty—a strong believer in God, who has lost hope she will ever find her soul mate but finds her safe harbor in an atheist.

Title: A Silent Prayer
Book Length: 330 Pages
Synopsis:
Adam Gibson is a young and powerful Toronto millionaire. Despite his many blessings, he is an atheist, though he has an altruistic soul. He denies there is a God—until he meets a beautiful stranger in a place that does not exist for anyone but him.

Rania Ahmed strongly believes in God, but has lost hope she will ever find her soul mate. Endowed with hypnotic beauty and cursed by a brutal past, Rania has no idea she has cast a spell on Adam, who has never received more from a woman than physical pleasure. As Adam slowly discovers the true meaning of love from Rania, he begins to face his demons and reconsider his beliefs. He learns to love, forgive and repent. But as Adam grows closer to Rania, a series of strange, unexplained events threatens to drive them apart. To keep her from being destroyed by her past, he must persuade her to trust him with her deepest secrets.

In this spiritual romance, an atheist embarks on a path of enlightenment with a tormented soul who may just have the power to change everything he has ever believed to be true.

Thank you

I'm Aleks. I'm a Psychologist and self-development author from sunny Sydney Australia. I've been looking for an interesting writer's group to join in order to learn and share what I know and connect to like-minded people.

I have a new book coming out in 3-4 weeks where I interviewed best-selling business and self-improvement entrepreneurs and will offer a synopsis of it next time I post if that is acceptable to the group. I'll be happy to offer a review copy to those who may be interested.

Other than that, I hope everyone is well and I look forward to contributing where I can :)

Doctor-Phil Oz | 16 comments HI EVERYONE!
This is my first book “When The Health Requires Wealth”.

It is based on a true story about a foreign young man finding his new life in the UK. Based on his own experiences whiles his recovery after a serious accident he starts a career as a carer. The book shows his mission, his passion to help others on the one side and the windmill fight against the bureaucracy on the other side. The man who supports but it’s not supported.
I recommend this book to anyone who would be thinking of using this service: to end users and family members, to social workers, including civil partnerships advisors, and to everybody who wants to read something that others write just to give the endless support for something that is more dead than alive.

Parinaz Billimoria | 4 comments Hello Everyone :-) I write, write, and write. I am a full-time Copywriter with an Ad Agency. I recently published my eBook on Amazon last week Bits and Pieces that will transform your life

Over the years, I have discovered there is no single formula to achieve a life of contentment and joy. But there are only tools, which empower and remind us of our abilities and the powers we possess. The biggest problem is that we are unable to be our true selves. We are constantly trying to be someone who is accepted and loved by others. But this is not happiness! This is camouflaging your power to be who you are and giving in to the inessentials. I was doing the same for 24 years. In 2007, I came across these magical accouterments. Since then I have been expressing my emotions as I am, experiencing myself as I am, and living my life as who I truly am.

This magic of finding me amid so much self-doubt and self-criticism is what inspired me to pen down my encounter with nature's gizmos. From self-berating to self-forgiving, from 'living for others' to 'loving myself,' and from nervousness and anxiousness to tranquility and confidence, this book is a collection of the articles I wrote for an Indian Newspaper, just out of my joy to write and share! And, unknowingly, changed thousands of lives. So here I am! Sharing (worldwide) all those observations, learnings, bits and pieces I gathered on my journey to self-improvement. Of course, the journey hasn't ended yet. It's just getting better!

Keep loving yourself... Keep learning!!! :-)

GOD BLESS YOU ALL :-)

message 7550: by Jerry (new)

Jerry (banjo1) | 14 comments Very happy about the nice plug for THE GREAT LIARS Sunday on the hugely popular Ace of Spades website:

What I'm Reading
I may have mentioned The Great Liars by Jerry Carroll a few weeks ago, but if not, I'll do so now. I'm about a third of the way through it, and it's a real hoot. A Smithsonian researcher has discovered, in a nursing home for retired soldiers, a former naval officer (and a bit of a rogue) who knows where all the bodies are buried, and who has somehow managed to keep himself out of the history books. In the days leading up to World WWII, Commander Lowell Brady acted as a liaison between FDR and Churchill, carrying secret communications between them, meeting all the politicians and famous people of the era, and seducing (as well as sometimes seduced by) many of their women. So he knows what went on, and why they want to shut him up.
Carroll, a former reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, is also the author of Inhuman Beings (which has been described as a cross between Raymond Chandler and Philip K. Dick) and Top Dog, which is about a Wall Street shark who awakes one day and finds himself in the body of a dog and caught up in the cosmic battle of Good vs. Evil. Kind of a Kafka/Tolkien mash-up.
'The Great Liars' is structured around an alternate, but not totally implausible, version of history, but, from what I can tell, that would make it the most "normal" of Carroll's books.
They all sound pretty interesting, though.

Then there is this from Kirkus Reviews:

“. . . a heady brew of military history and conspiracy theory that will appeal to aficionados of both.”

“The Pulitzer-Prize nominated journalist smartly centers this historical novel, an amalgam of facts and suppositions, on a charming rogue.”

“Carroll believably brings both historical and fictional figures to life while slowly and skillfully unreeling Brady’s story, which shifts back and forth between World War II and the early 1950s.”

“. . . a detailed portrait of an unlucky man caught up in events far beyond his control.”

“A riveting adventure that effectively explores the idea that history is written by the winners.”
