I hate to be a cliche, but my mantra is too many books...too little time.

Thanks for the invite, Michael. My name is Scot. I'm from central PA. I am primarily a horror reader but, I have been taking some of my writing ideas and getting them down on paper. Maybe I will publish some day but, with my current schedule, that won't be anytime soon. I look forward to meeting some great people here.

I am James Lingard and recently put some of my books on goodreads.
As a front line practitioner, I wrote the textbook (now in its 5th edition) which the publishers entitled Lingard’s Bank Security Documents.
On retirement, I wrote Britain at War 1939 to 1945 what was life like during the war? which received excellent reviews.
I have now tried my hand at short stories and a shortish thriller all available at a nominal price on Kindle because that medium enables short books to be published. Am I correct in believing that busy people prefer short thrillers to traditional works which can take many pages setting the scene before becoming exciting?
I would also appreciate feedback – good, bad or indifferent – on the following:-
In Defiance of Danger
Escape from Iran Israeli Style
The Dead Man Strikes Back
Just letting you guys know about this...On Saturday 18th August there'll be an interview with me over at The Indieview website.
http://www.theindieview.com/
Go check it out and let me know what you think.
To coincide with the interview, I'll be reducing the price on Unbound Brothers to $0.99 and £0.77 for two weeks.
Don't miss your chance to grab my novel at this reduced price. The good reviews keep rolling in and for that price it's worth taking a chance. Here are a few quotes;
'Rob Rowntree's debut novel is a mix of Arthur C. Clark and Michael Crichton.'
'...Mr. Rowntree has an amazing grasp of descriptive writing, filling the pages with pictures through his words. Through his writing, the reader can experience space and all of its wonders and dangers.'
'Don't normally read sci fi books but this was recommended. Excellent read, gripping story and very believable characters. Looking forward to a follow up - would definitely recommend to others.'
'Rowntree does a great job with this book. Filled with mystery, wonder and terror, "Unbound Brothers" will hook you from the very beginning and not let you go.'
'Unbound Brothers squarely belongs to the space opera subgenre, but it's unlike any space opera I've read. It's darker than Niven and just as mysterious.'
Don't miss out.

Hi, I'm Monica. I've loved speculative fiction since I picked up Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End as a teenager and I've been reading SF/fantasy ever since. I'm not particularly fond of the darker kind of fantasy though. Two of my favorite authors are Connie Willis and C.J. Cherryh.
I'm just about to release my forth novel, Steampunk Darcy.

Hi everyone! Pleased to "meet" you all. I published my first ebook, Pawn of Innocence, on Amazon a month ago, and have two others I am currently writing on. I love to write, and, IMO, there is no finer way to pass the day- and half the night, doing it :) Though, I can't wait to comb through every post on this whole site and see experiences other writers are having, and all the feedback readers are giving.I've incorporated something in my ebook that I think is unique called Sights and Sounds. It vividly enriches the reading experience. Pawn of Innocence is free to download right now for Amazon Prime members, or 2.99 if you're not. Only one of the people who have bought it so far bothered to write a review, but at least it was 5 star.
You can see the cover and description of this book and the other two I am writing, as well as the Sights and Sounds page for it at www.chameleon-author.com
and for a sneak peek follow along as I post commentaries now and then about what my characters are doing that day at www.facebook.com/ebooksbychameleon I call it the ultimate sneak peek! If you like what you see and read, please LIKE, and if you really like it please FOLLOW
Thanks! I hope to interact with many of you, after all, we have a very big thing in common- our love of writing!
Sincerely,
Chameleon

Hi Vincent and everyone, I'm Valerie Poore. I am one of those hybrid creatures with two books published and two self published. Two are memoirs of special times and places in my life and two are novels, one being a YA book and the other humorous fiction. I have a live aboard barge in Rotterdam, NL so much of my writing now focuses on all things connected to that world, although my most recently published novel is about doing the self-sufficiency thing in the wilds of rural England. I'll scroll down here and read some more of these introductions now! Thanks for this community and hope to 'chat' to some of you soon.

Hi! My name is Mary and I'm an author and reader of fantasy and sometimes science fiction. Currently reading Game of Thrones (a little late, I know) and the book adaptations of the MYST video games. I'm working on book three of my first fantasy series, Children of Fire, the first of which I published last year. I've decided it was way past time I joined some fantasy book groups to connect with other readers and maybe get a few new readers for my own work :)http://www.maryfonvielle.net

My name is Pemry Janes and I've been reading fantasy and science fiction since I was young. Found the genre through Tolkien, I suppose a lot of people do.I really liked the Wheel of Time series as well, though Jordan lost me around book eight. I gave up on the series, but I was looking very much forward to the new series he was supposed to begin.
Anyway, I recently took the jump of actually putting down one of the stories running around in my head and self published it.
Good morning everybody. My name is John H.T. Francis; I am an author and a new member to this group. I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and my book Reflections on Fundamental Matters: Not for the Satisfied Mind.
Reflections on Fundamental Matters is an essay that addresses many important topics that almost all of us have debated at some point in our lives (e.g. nature of existence and life, history of ideas, ethics, free will, or knowledge). It relies on a multi-disciplinary approach, is written in an as-simple-as-possible style, is universal, and does not require some pre-acquired knowledge in the subjects to enjoy it. It is today available on Lulu and Kindle but will also be coming to market on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBookstore.

Kindle: http://amzn.to/19YfLyr
There is also a giveaway on GR scheduled to end on Sep 15 for those interested.
Thank you very much for reading this post. And I look forward to engage with those of you who have the same interests. JHTF
Welcome all you newcomers! I'm rather new myself, by two weeks now, but i love this site. The diversity of authors and their subjects is fantastic and very interesting, and I strongly encourage you all to read through all the posts on this site (yes, I know, there are 1000's) but well worth the look. I see so many books that I'd love to read, but with one out, and three in the process, I'd be hard pressed to make a dent. So many books, so little time.... :)Chameleon

The publishing industry has linked so many genres into one now, that it is difficult to separate the various titles. Espionage has been swallowed up by thriller/ action/adventure genres, which in turn have been linked together. Sometimes travel books are shoved into the biography genre. The only recourse I know of for authors is to have the title and the excerpts show the prospective reader what to expect of the book.

Hello, my name is Joe Donahue. I just signed up for goodreads. I love to write, but I probably don't read as often as I should. I hope to change that in the near future but I usually don't have much time to read. I own and brew for a very small brewery that I'm currently in the process of trying to find a new home for. I work a day job as a computer programmer during the week. Obviously between those two things I don't have much spare time. I also have a wife and nearly two year old daughter with another kid on the way. I'm beginning the journey into becoming a self published author. I'm half way done with the third revision of my current work in progress novel and hope to be publishing it within the next several weeks. Finding different ways to market my book is the primary reason I joined Goodreads. I plan on joining the Authors Program, but I also like getting no involved with groups like this and seeing what they think of my writing as well as the writing of others so that I can find ways to improve. I look forward to becoming involved in your group.
Thanks Pamela. I'm getting very excited about releasing my novel into the world. The idea of pushing my little bird out of the tree and seeing if it will fly is quite daunting...but I'm almost ready, I think. ;)
Hello, the name is C. Bellwood and I'm relatively new to Goodreads. Hoping to meet some great Authors and great readers out there!

Hello, I'm David, I'm a 36 year old native Texan. I have been dabbling at writing now for about twenty years, and with the recent downsizing of my accounting department, thought it would be a good a time as any to take up the craft and try making some actual money with it. My first novel was published via KDP this month.
Murder, mystery, science fiction, and fantasy are boundaries that I traipse across in almost everything I write. Not all of them at once; but at least a few.
I enjoy reading books by new and emerging authors; those that haven't been consumed and devoured by the hype, and I enjoy seeing how the past masters of the arts did it in their day: the classics.
My writing style varies from project to project. I would say that my newest book will smack heavily of Dean Koontz's style of storytelling, while my first book was all cheap thriller crime/who-done-it.
I live in Texas with my cats, and my wife. Not necessarily in that order.
Hi.My name is Ira. I write humour and stuff.
I have self-published in print and electronic format five books in a series called The Alternate Reality News Service (ARNS). ARNS sends reporters into other dimensions and has them write news articles about what they find there. It has been described by a couple of readers as "a science fiction version of The Onion." The most recent books in the series are The Street Finds its Own Uses for Mutant Technologies (a general collection of articles) and The Alternate Reality News Service's Guide to Love, Sex and Robots (a collection of humourous sci fi advice columns).
My first novel, Welcome to the Multiverse*, was published this year by Britain's Elsewhen Press; a follow-up is currently in the midst of the editorial process, and I am busy at work on a third, unrelated novel. And, I have had several short stories published in various anthologies. And, I have a Web site of political and social satire, Les Pages aux Folles (http://www.lespagesauxfolles.ca), which is updated weekly with new articles and cartoons. You could say that I'm proflic - profilic - frop - you could say that I write a lot.
I suppose I'm here for the same reason as other writers: to help my work find its audience. But, really, "and stuff?" What's that about? I mean, isn't humour enough?
*Sorry for the Inconvenience

Hello all. I'm a writer and writing coach who has just published my first memoir Short Leash: A Memoir of Dog Walking and Deliverance, about how walking my dog in a park unleashed decades of fear. The walks also released my beloved Barney from his fear-based dog aggression. It's about love and loss and acceptance. But it's also about sex, drugs, rock and roll, wasted youth and the powerful healing power of nature.
While I am not new I would like to give a friendly welcome to all the new members who have recently joined this group as well as Goodreads. It's always nice to meet new people. I look forward to talking and having discussions with you. :)
Hey Everyone, I'm a guy that doesn't really consider himself as an author despite having just published his fourth book in five months.
I've loved reading contemporary fantasy since I was young, especially books involving mythology, so I decided to write my own series.
What started off as a distraction quickly turned into a 450,000 word five book series written in seven months that involved writing until 3am, sleeping until noon, and an addiction to coffee that had been previously unknown to me.
Now that I'm preparing the final book of my series for publishing, I decided that now is a good time to more actively market my books and this group seemed like a good place to start getting ideas and meet people along the way.
I look forward to contributing to the group!
Hi all,Nice to meet you! I'm Sulin and I just published my first novel, Ice Phoenix, earlier this month. It took me years to finally wrap up my book - at one point I thought I'd never be happy with it. But now it's over, I find myself floundering in 'what's next?' I was just glad to finish it! Now, I need readers. :)
Anyway, I grew up on Enid Blyton, moved on to Raymond E Feist, JRR Tolkien, David Eddings, David Gemmel, and a lot more fantasy authors. I loved all of them but there were times when something didn't satisfy me and I thought, just this once, I'm going to write something I like. I wrote a lot of stories as a kid using my father's typewriter. He noticed how much I loved it and he bought me my very own. Great days.
I intend to continue writing, provided I can find the time after work while trying not to completely destroy my social life, which I admit, I did when I was trying to wrap up Ice Phoenix. Anyway, pleased to meet you all. :)
