Bruce | 17 comments Hi all!

My new book, MOVING IN: Tales of an Unlicensed Marriage is out now and available on Amazon! It chronicles the hilarious adventures partner and NYC broker Scott Stewart and I had while fixing up a home in the country. I'll be hosting a giveaway for the book soon but I wanted to get the word out here first! Check out the funny trailer for the book and if you know of anyone who'd be interested, please share.

Jerry Ward (jerry6030) | 10 comments Some four or so years ago a friend of mine—a retired educator from the business school of SDSU— and I were bemoaning how very few people understood capitalism, the economic system with which our nation operates and that has enabled our wealth. We both thought that this ignorance was hurting the nation because it led too many people to mistrust it and not be a bit bothered to see it attacked and weakened. So we decided we should write a short, easy to read, explanation of what it is and how it operates. I set out to do so.

I discovered I couldn’t do it. My “explanations” got so involved and complex that nobody could possibly understand them—worse, including me. It was too easy to confuse the central ideas with all the bells and whistles— and rocks and bitter pills—that governments hang on it.

It finally occurred to me that maybe it would easier to understand if one told the story as a history, a history that illustrated how each of its elements came into being as a consequence of the needs of the time.

I had for years also been interested in the question of how we got so wealthy: 10,000 years ago our ancestors were living in raw nature and inventing stone tools. I knew that on of the big steps in getting from there to here was the Industrial Revolution, but didn’t appreciate just what magic it provided, nor why it even happened. A history might throw some light on such questions.

So I set out to write the history of how we got from there to here, and how today’s economic practices accumulated over time. The result is The Evolution of Wealth: An Economic History of Innovation and Capitalism, the Role of Government, and the Hazards of Democracy. The first 54 pages cover the history to date, and the last 80 a discussion of where we are now and the major issues we face in our continuing evolution. I tried to write it so that it was easy to read, requiring no special knowledge to understand. I wanted any reader to come away with a much clearer understanding of how our nation functioned economically and some of the issues with which is has to cope. The most important of these in my judgment is education, and I devoted a whole chapter to a proposal to take better advantage of improving technology, to both make it more effective and to make quality education more readily available to everyone.

Ann Thomas (annmarie80) | 1 comments Hello
One day I looked at the ruins of Swansea Castle and wondered what is was like when it was lived in. I researched it and got fascinated by the medieval history of Gower in south Wales. The result is the local history book Alina, The White Lady of Oystermouth. This is the story of how a little rebellion started in Swansea Castle ended up toppling Edward II from the English throne. It is illustrated with line drawings by a talented artist. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alina-Oysterm...

Sorry Sue, I was thinking this was a swap. I have three, but based on what I've read on your profile, how about a short story under 8000 words. The story is loosely based on actual events.

Mel Thornton is informed by the new hotel GM (Cheryl) he and Jimmy need to evict two "night-walkers" from the premises. His mind flashes back six months to the last eviction. He cringes at the thought of the blood covered room, yet when the cops show up, the room is spotless. Will the memories of the past remain in the past,or will these two new evictees reveal the truth to the horrors of the past?

The one review commented, "If you're into Steven King's "The Shining," this is for you!

Let me know what format you'd like.

Philippa (philippa-poet) | 16 comments I would like to announce the fairly imminent publication of Involution- An Odyssey Reconciling Science to God. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I cannot improve on a review ( see link above) it has just received from an early reader who in two short succinct paragraphs has managed to encapsulate a book about everything written in an unorthodox way. As a master of pithy brevity she should have written the blurb! Every reader reads a different book which is what I hoped would happen, but for an overview Kristin's is exemplary.

Richard Roedel (polariseffect) | 1 comments Hello everyone, my name is Rick Roedel. I am new to goodreads and I am very excited to be apart of the community. I just finished publishing my first book, written on a topic I am very passionate about.

The Polaris Effect: Who really holds the power in creating American Jobs? is more than just a book - it's a movement to bring back three million U.S. manufacturing jobs. Rather than rely on the government or other companies, I place the responsibility to bring back U.S. manufacturing jobs on U.S. citizens, whose wallets affect where manufacturing jobs are sent.

I was one of the individuals that had to restart my career at age 55, as my last occupation disappeared over night with the changes our country has gone though. Thus, the inspiration to write my book and share my experience with others.

Please check out my book and tell me what you think. I am very happy to announce the release to this community.

Best,
Rick Roedel
