Danielle Pierre (daniellepierre) | 4 comments Hi Friends! I'd like to introduce my book "Just Make It Happen" which was created to assist others to improve the quality of their lives -- from overcoming a negative mindset to a complete life transformation. It was self-published and I'm not overly thrilled with the formatting of the book, however I believe you'll find a lot of value in its contents. It's currently being revised and I will let you all know about the revised addition as it becomes available. I've also started posting articles in my blog here if you'd like to take a peek.

Thank you for your time and I hope you read and enjoy the book!

Namaste

Carmela (carmelac2022) | 1 comments My new book is in the literary nonfiction genre:

NOM DE PLUME: A (SECRET) HISTORY OF PSEUDONYMS, to be published by HarperCollins on June 14, 2011.

A description of the book is below, and you can check out the trailer here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL4PH2...

“Nom de Plume is a fascinating collection of stories – populated by individuals whose ‘doubleness’ is so distinct that they acquire secondary personalities, and, in some notable cases, multiple personalities. It’s a richly documented literary excursion into the inner, secret lives of some of our favorite writers.”

―Joyce Carol Oates

“This is a fascinating book on a fascinating subject. We all have other selves, but only some of us give them a name and let them loose in the world. Carmela Ciuraru steps behind a host of shadowy facades to interrogate the originals, and the result is both enlightening and wonderfully entertaining.”

―John Banville, author of The Sea, winner of the Man Booker Prize

“What to make of the paradox that some of the boldest writers have hidden behind pen names? Carmela Ciuraru has performed a valuable service in examining the phenomenon through her charming, sprightly, and illuminating biographical essays.”

―Phillip Lopate

“Nom de Plume is a delicious investigation of what leads the likes of the Brontës, Samuel Clemens, and Karen Blixen to ditch their names for safer, more romantic, or more intriguing identities when they write. Whether their reasons are practical or mysterious, their lives and choices are here charmingly limned by Carmela Ciuraru (a name that, in itself, has the allure of a pseudonym).”

―Honor Moore, author of The Bishop's Daughter

In our “look at me” era, privacy now seems a quaint relic. Everyone’s a brand. Self-effacement is a thing of the past. Yet as Carmela Ciuraru’s book NOM DE PLUME: A (Secret) History of Pseudonyms (HarperCollins Publishers; Hardcover; on-sale: June 14, 2011) reminds us, it wasn’t always like this.

NOM DE PLUME explores the fascinating stories of sixteen authorial impostors across centuries and cultures, plumbing the creative process and the darker, often crippling aspects of fame.

Various biographies have chronicled the lives of individual pseudonymous authors such as Mark Twain, Isak Dinesen, and George Eliot, but never before have the stories behind many noms de plume been collected into a single volume. Each chapter is a mini-biography, delving into the intrigue and turmoil behind the secret identities. These are narratives of secrecy, obsession, modesty, scandal, defiance, and shame.

Grounded by research yet highly accessible and engaging, these provocative, astonishing stories reveal the complex motives of writers who hoarded secret identities—sometimes playfully, sometimes with terrible anguish and tragic consequences.

A wide-ranging exploration of pseudonyms both familiar and obscure, NOM DE PLUME is part detective story, part exposé, part literary history, and an absorbing psychological meditation on identity and creativity.

Actually, I'm a semi-retired journalist and publicist. In addition, I'm a working author. I published my first book as a trade paperback a few years ago. It's a self-help book on promotion for authors and is based on my experiences in book promotion and publishing. I also have contributions from a dozen others authors. Some are best-sellers, other just had clever promotional methods.
I've now released my first fiction book, a mystery/adventure set in New Jersey's Pinelands.
Putting the finishing touches on an earlier manuscript in historical adventure genre, and am also working on the outline of a detective novel set in the 1930s. Oh, I'm also the proud grandfather of three great kids ranging in age from 2 to 11.

It is aimed mainly at relative beginners, and is full of hints and tips to help you avoid all the usual mistakes, without spending a fortune. If you have a patch of ground, almost anywhere, then give it a try. If weeds will grow, so will fruit and veg. it's just a matter of picking the right crops and knowing what you're doing!

I just published my new funny book on vintage recipes Kooky Cookery, here's the blurb!

What do bricks of tomato gelatin, pizzas made with baked beans, and hors-d’oeuvre impaled Santas have in common? They’re all part of American’s rich and fragrant history of bizarre food concoctions. Kooky Cookery is a campy cookbook parody and humorous archive of the nation’s Golden Age of peculiar creations.

You can read more about it at http://www.kookycookery.com

That was before an extraordinary opportunity to attend West Point changed my ordinary life. That was before events took a truth-is-stranger-than-fiction arc from the Amazon Jungles of Guyana to the wind-swept plains of West Point - and back. That was before rude awakenings, especially after West Point - because of West Point.

The irony is that bigots from what ever religious break a central tenet most religions have in common, namely God (by whatever name He is recognised) knows best and Judgment is best left to him. Kim (kjewels) | 2 comments Running on G What's Filling Your Tank? by Kimberly J. James

Hello All,

I am pleased to announce my upcoming book launch for Running on G: What's Filling Your Tank? on Amazon on November 22nd. Thanks for the opporunity to use this platform to introduce myself and my book prior to the launch date. I am a self published author and I was lead to write this book due to a number of extraordinary circumstances in my life. I am not an experienced author in terms of marketing and publicizing my book, but I was told it was a story that had to be told, so I did it.

I have included the description as it appears on Amazon and anyone who is willing to read my book and support my launch by posting a review and/or publicizing my launch on November 22nd to your friends/contacts via email, FB & Twitter I am happy to provide a coupon code to purchase the book for ONE CENT through my personal bookstore www.kimberlyjjames.com.

Thanks for your consideration! - Kim

Kimberly James chronicles her life and the intimate details of how her "mess" collided with the love of God to catapult her into her purpose in "Running on G: What's Filling Your Tank?" This book tells her story of dealing with childhood trauma and difficulties throughout her adult life while delivering the message that no matter what life brings, we are the sole masters of our destiny and that even your pain has a purpose. "Running on G" puts readers into James' shoes and thought-process as she evolves through many debilitating life experiences. Her message to her readers is that nothing is pre-determined. Through sharing her story, she proves to be a perfect example of how people can overcome any level of adversity and redirect the course of his/her life as long as they are able and willing to grow through the limitations of their ego. The first chapter begins at the end of the book with an identity beautifully and authentically redefined through the evolution of a human soul. What is great is that the reader gets to be a part of that evolution and they too walk away feeling like anything is possible. This book is written in a style that allows readers to feel as if they are reading a diary or a novel with no shortage of drama. James hopes that her life experiences will give hope to others who face their own series of challenges and disappointments. Her goal was to give something back that will leave a legacy of hope and triumph, and hopefully improve the lives of others. "Like me, so many are perplexed by their suffering and uncertain how to navigate through the fog" James says. "This work is much bigger than me. I wrote it purely out of obedience. It is the most painful yet rewarding thing I have ever accomplished."

Sherry Schultz (sherryschultz) | 1 comments Hi Friends of Non Fiction,

I've been a part of Goodreads for a time, but am a bit slow in finding my own niche. In recent years, I have been far more interested in non fiction than fiction.

I'd like to introduce my newest book "TALKS WITH OUR CREATOR." It is a scripture based book of daily readings/meditations/reflections. Those who are reading it tell me it is not preachy and most definitely leans toward spirituality rather than religion.

I've tried to give people a thought to focus on every day, so I cover many things -- addictions, relationships, communication, self esteem, and finding the Creator of your understanding. I hope some of you will check out my new website (which has a number of pages of the book on it) at Sherryschultz377.com/MyBookBlog.

If there is one thought I am hoping to pass on to others, it is that we are all children of God -- no matter what our conception of God might be. Idealist that I still must be, I'd like to see human beings seeking their similarities and celebrating their differences.

Harry Smith (1923amemoir) | 5 comments Just Released Hamburg 1947: A Place for the Heart to Kip

Twenty-two years old and ready for peace, Harry Leslie Smith has survived the Great Depression and endured the Second World War. Now, in 1945 in Hamburg, Germany, he must come to terms with a nation physically and emotionally devastated. In this memoir, he narrates a story of people searching to belong and survive in a world that was almost destroyed.
Hamburg 1947 recounts Smith’s youthful RAF days as part of the occupational forces in post-war Germany. A wireless operator during the war, he doesn’t want to return to Britain and join a queue of unemployed former servicemen; he reenlists for long term duty in occupied Germany. From his billet in Hamburg, a city razed to the ground by remorseless aerial bombardment, he witnesses a people and era on the brink of annihilation. This narrative presents a street-level view of a city reduced to rubble populated with refugees, black marketers, and cynical soldiers.
At times grim and other times amusing, Smith writes a memoir relaying the social history about this time and place, providing a unique look at post-WWII Germany. Hamburg 1947 is both a love story for a city and a passionate retailing of a love affair with a young German woman."
