Hello. My name is John Gaver, and I write books on Tax Policy and the Economics of Taxation. I have been termed, "The People's Economist" because I write on tax policy, without all the economic techno-babble or econo-speak that you most often hear from politicians and economists, who are trying to either sound smart or more ominously, trying to obscure the truth. Think of my books as tax policy, explained in a way that requires nothing more of the reader than a basic proficiency in high school math.My most recent book is "The Rich Don't Pay Tax… or Do They? – Second Edition – Revised and Expanded", published in 2021, from Allegiance Books. It is available in print and ebook formats. It can be found on Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, and Apple Books, among others. The original version was published in 2012. But, as is the case with all books on economic issues, it began to age shortly after publication and became enough out-of-date that it was revised and expanded in 2021.
If you think that the rich don't pay their fair share, then this book will conclusively shatter that myth. It's highly documented, with many footnote references throughout the book, including URLs to source data from reliable government and private sector sources. OK. I'll admit that some of the references are to IRS sources and I know that some people don't think the IRS is all that reliable. But, you be the judge of the sources. By the time you're through. You'll not only know, for a fact, that the rich pay way more than their share in taxes, but you'll also understand why trying to soak the rich is a losing proposition.
It is NOT about crocodile tears for the rich. It's about what the rich CAN and in increasing numbers ARE doing, as a result of being targeted by both parties in the US government and how that action threatens the rest of us.
Of course, presenting a problem, without positing a solution gets you nowhere. So a very well researched and workable solution is presented in the last section of the book. Not only would this solution solve the existing problem, but it would reverse a damaging trend that is caused by attempts by both parties to soak the rich. It's not about placing blame, but rather about finding a solution for a problem that threatens the economy for all of us.
I expect to have my next book out in the fall. It will be a goals-based analysis of the two major tax reform proposals sitting in Congress, today. I'll post more details about that book, as the publication date gets closer.
