When Little Bee finds that Andrew has hanged himself she thinks, “Of course I must save him, whatever it costs me, because he is a human being.” And then she thinks, “Of course I must save myself, because I am a human being too” (p. 194).

Kim L | 18 comments Little Bee was facing a dilemma. In her mind she was grappling with saving Andrew or saving herself.
Andrew was consumed with guilt;not responding the way he thought he should have when he and Sarah were on vacation and first met up with Little Bee and her sister. Andrew could not have been saved by Little Bee. He wanted to die.
