In a change to our current nomination schedule, our nominations and polling will now be held a little bit earlier in the month to give members more of a chance to join in with our reads. Usual rules still apply, suggestions are open until each genre has 8 books. Please only ONE nomination per person (EITHER sci-fi OR fantasy).

June will, however, also be our very first theme month! The theme is Gollancz Fantasy and SF Masterworks (Millennium in the US), so all nominations this month must be from the list [HERE] for Sci-FI and [HERE] for Fantasy, with the only limitation being no previous BOTMs may be nominated.

In addition we will be running some giveaways and special discussions for the event starting on June 1st, so stay tuned!

SCIENCE FICTION

1. Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke (Nominated by Gareth)
2. Ubik by Philip K. Dick (Nominated by Paul)
3. Ringworld by Larry Niven (Nominated by Paul II)
4. Grass by Sheri S. Tepper (Nominated by Pendra)
5. Pavane by Keith Roberts (Nominated by Mary)
6. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein (Nominated by Brendan)
7. The Forever War by Joe Haldeman (Nominated by Ty)
8. The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons (Nominated by Christina)

SCI-FI NOMINATIONS NOW CLOSED

1. Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin (Nominated by Nic)
2. The Riddle-Master's Game by Patricia A. McKillip (Nominated by Sam)
3. The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick (Nominated by Roger)
4. Replay by Ken Grimwood (Nominated by John)
5. The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny (Nominated by Freya)
6. The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers (Nominated by Mpauli)

Can I add for scifi Ubik by Philip K Dick

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 438 comments I will nominate Ringworld as I have never read it. And probably should.

message 8: by Pendra (new)

Pendra Nachteule | 12 comments I would like to nominate Grass by Sheri S. Tepper for Sci-Fi.

message 9: by Mary (last edited May 06, 2015 08:06AM) (new)

Mary Catelli | 1152 comments Pavane by Keith Roberts

It's listed as SF, which I suppose it is. In one sense. But hey, what's the point of using their lists if we don't take their word for it?

I'd like to nominate The Iron Dragon's Daughter

I was going to spend a bunch of time checking out these lists but then I came across this line "part-magical, part-cybernetic monsters that are used as jet fighters" and realized I didn't need to go any further.

Nic Margett (enn_eye_cee) | 353 comments Mod
Sorry Hana, we're only taking nominations from the masterworks lists this month and A Darkling Sea is not one of them, but feel free to nominate it next month, it sounds good!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

And it's now in my TBR list...

message 16: by Brendan (new)

Brendan O'neill | 204 comments I would like to nominate The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I have been meaning to try something by Heinlein for a while now.

message 17: by Ty (new)

Ty Wilson (ShatterStar66) | 81 comments I'm feeling a little left out. Did you all get time machines so you can go back to June 2014 and read new selections? If one of you would left me catch a ride on your time machine, I'd like to nominate The Forever War.

haha oops, well spotted Ty! Good choice too, my favourite book ever!

message 19: by John (new)

John (johnred) From the Fanatasy Masterworks list, I'd like to nominate Replay by Ken Grimwood.

Thanks, it's been in my TBR list for awhile, just hasn't made it to the top of the pile yet. Maybe this will get it there.

message 21: by Christina (new)

Christina Pilkington | 163 comments May I nominate The Fall of Hyperion for Sci-Fi? I looked on the bookshelf and from what I can see it was only a buddy read and not a BOM.

message 22: by Nic, Wormhole Technician (new)

Nic Margett (enn_eye_cee) | 353 comments Mod
You may, Christina!

Sci-Fi Nominations are now closed, 4 spaces left for Fantasy...

message 23: by Freya, Dragon Rider (new)

Freya (flamecat) | 1757 comments Mod
The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny for fantasy please!

I believe the Chronicles of Amber is in the Masterworks although that only covers books 1-5. The Great Book has all books contained though is not much longer than your average GRR Martin or Rothfuss :)

message 24: by Mpauli, Bitten by a radioactive book (new)

Mpauli | 769 comments Mod
As The Anubis Gates is part of that list and of my planned reads for 2015, I'd like to nominate it. :)

I will leave the last spot open for someone, but Nic I will try and send those emails tomorrow ;)

message 28: by Antonis (last edited May 06, 2015 03:09PM) (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 62 comments Great nominations all of them (of course, they are Masterworks lists after all!). I'd like to throw in there no 27, Lyonesse I: Suldrun's Garden by Jack Vance just because I've had it on my Kobo for more than 2 years already and never had the chance to read it!! Also..., it's Jack Vance!
