I have just finished the intense and most genius book A Child is Torn “Innocence Lost” - Dawn Kopman Whidden. Now I have to think what I want to read next.
I'm currently reading Body Rides
by Richard Laymon
Then, I will have the privilege of reading my sister's best selling book:
Out of Nowhereby Rebecca Phillips
. Consequently, today is her birthday as well. I'm a proud big brother!

Reading thru several Nelson DeMille books, particularly the John Corey series. Here's my review on The Lion's Gamehttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Includes some comments on other of his books too.

Rick,
You really are a Trollope devotee! :) (I have several of his novels, which I bought from BORDERS several years ago - but have yet to read them.)
Have you tried Thackeray? I think, at long last, that I'm going to read "Vanity Fair" next year. I have a fascination with novels set during the Napoleonic Era.

I really do love Trollope and Wilkie Collins..I am constantly amazed, when reading them, that books that are over 150 years old can still be so timely and relevant..I have several Thackeray novels as well but have not read them yet..each time I finish a Collins or a Trollope book I keep pledging to read another Victorian Author yet always end up with another Collins or Trollope! I just ordered
so I am quite sure that will be my next "Victorian" after I finish Three Clerks

I'm reading N is for Noose by Sue Grafton. I have been reading lots of math and statistics books, so I really needed a break!
I've got a collection of books that focus on King Arthur which I've been meaning to read for years. So I finally decided to tackle the first set, by Sir Thomas Mallory. My goal is to understand the legends better as I'm a big myth and legends fan.
I am going to read Three Gentlemen of Verona: The Lovelife of London Society - Gianni Ventura.Review book for Netgalley lol
I finished The Devil Colony by James Rollins and I didn't like it much. The story boils down to Sigma Force (a group of government scientist/tough guys) trying to contain the threat from ancient hidden nanotechnology-fueled doomsday devices while The Guild (ancient society of bad guys) tries to obtain the devices for their own benefit. Lots of running around the globe, shooting, kidnapping, and killing ensue. There are conspiracies within conspiracies, Mormon beliefs about ancient Israeli tribes coming to the New World, pseudo-science, ancient indestructible maps, the Founding Fathers involvement, secret codes, and much much more. For me it was confusing and just not my kind of story.
The Nebuly CoatJohn Meade Falkner
I am reading a most delightful novel..The Nebuly Coat The author wrote only three novels (including the classic Moonfleet)..this is a free book I found through my kindle..very very good!!

Sounds like very light reading..a beach read!

I figured I am near enough to Christmas now to start reading Letters From Father Christmas which I got for my birthday in June. I'm loving it - especially the relationship between Father Christmas and the North Polar Bear. It makes me giggle and the pictures are sweet too.
I finished Never Nosh a Matzo Ball by Sharon Kahn. In this amusing cozy mystery set in the town of Eternal, Texas, Ruby Rothman, widow of the late rabbi of Temple Rita, is involved in many Temple activities. So when Ruby's nemesis - bossy, narcissistic Essie Sue Margolis - decides to sell lo-cal (and inedible) matzo balls as a fund raiser for the Temple, Ruby is roped in to help. In the midst of planning the matzo ball sale, Bogie, a trainer at the fitness center owned by Essie Sue is found dead in suspicious circumstances. Of course Ruby, being a natural born yenta and self-styled amateur sleuth gets right on the job. Plenty of fun situations and fun characters in the book. Great for a light read
I've given up on Three Gentlemen of Verona: The Lovelife of London Society - Gianni Ventura (just couldn't understand it.) So now I am reading Escaping Reality - Lisa Renee Jones.

Usually he would have made three books out of that many concepts. Come to think of it, he would've done better if he'd killed off "the Guild" a long time ago. The Sigma Force guys are either terribly ineffective or gold-bricking to keep their jobs :)
Peace, Seeley
I finally finished Rowling's mysteriously penned mystery, The Cuckoo's Calling. Review coming soon but suffice it to say, great writing but way too long a story.I'm now on to Black Karma and looking forward to it.
Peace, Seeley

For the past several days, I've been reading "Goodbye to All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York ed. by Sari Botton. It's shaping up to be one of the BEST books I've read this year.
I finished
(FINALLY, it was a bit long) review posts today on my site and tomorrow on GR. I've just started

I was not very fond of Cuckoo's Calling. Did not grab me. At all. Sorry to say

I finished The Broken Ones by Stephen M. Irwin. In this book "Gray Wednesday" is a world-changing event: the Earth's poles abruptly reverse, world electronics are thrown into disarray, and ghosts suddenly appear. Every human being gets their own ghost, visible only to themselves, who shadows them 24/7. In this atmosphere police detective Oscar Mariani investigates the torture/murder of teenage girls. This is especially distressing for Oscar because he badly injured a teenage girl when the sudden appearance of his ghost on Gray Wednesday caused him to swerve his car. Despite many barriers thrown in his path Oscar continues to hunt the murderer, leading him into bizarre and dangerous situations. It's an engrossing story that contains supernatural creatures, bad cops, beautiful women, disgraced friends and more...all leading to a satisfying conclusion.
I am reading Wanted: One Ghost
I am reading this for the author in exchange for an honest review. It is her debut novel. So far it's really good.
The walking dead rise of the governor. I really enjoy the show and have always been curious about the character Philip the governor.
I finished Swimsuit by James Patterson (and a co-author, Maxine Paetro). The premise of this story is that Ben Hawkins, former cop and current novelist, is being forced by a sociopathic serial killer to write a book about the killer's life and crimes. The killer's modus operandi is to videotape the sexual abuse, torture, and murder of his victims so that a group of sick voyeurs can watch and enjoy. For me the premise was unbelievable, the characters were flat, and the story was not very original. Not a great book.

I read the synopsis
..quite interesting..yet I hope there is a comic angle as well..it would seem that the plot would lend itself to a tongue in cheek wit

Natasha (Diarist) wrote: "The Mother Tongue: English And How It Got That Way by Bill Bryson, because I enjoy his writing, love languages (I learnt six at school), and find the title intriguing."I enjoyed this as well. Chock full of tidbits and tidal waves of information. Long, but worth it.
Finished walking dead rise of the governor. Very descriptive book and not of the faint of heart it ends openly to be continued in the next book. Next up Lies by Michael Grant
I have just finished Escaping Reality - Lisa Renee Jones. Now I am not sure whether to read Rouge - Isabella Modra or The Succubus Gift - B.R. Kingsolver.
I'm now reading Goodbye to All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York, which is edited by Sari Botton. I bought this book because, despite my own ambivalence towards NYC, I'm very interested in reading about the experiences of people across the generations who have lived there.
I started The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory by Brian Greene. Greene explains difficult, counter-intuitive concepts in a clear (and fun) way.
Imitation of Christ by Thomas KempisTo strive to be more like Christ. To learn the things that he truly represents.
I'm reading Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, by William Shirer. I've been meaning to read this book for years, but never got around to it. Could kick myself. Excellent writing. Fascinating look at the Nazis through primary source material.

Rick, I'm only about fifty pages into it, but already extremely impressed. Obviously, it's going to get pretty dark...
New Author E.E.Borton is sitting in the top 10 with the big boys and I cannot recommend his work highly enough . I just finished Without , his post apocalyptic thriller . An out of nowhere self publisher competing in the thriller marketplace with incredible range .
