I am reading Lord Vorpatril's Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold. I love her Vorkosigan saga series and have read every one of these books. This one is the latest title and it finds Lord Ivan in a hasty marriage to a lovely fugitive from another planet in a makeshift plan to save her life.

I agree 10000% Helen MacInnes was one of the truly great novelists in "spy/espionage" genre!!
Favorite of her books!!

I finished That Will Do Nicely by Ian Wallace Campbell. In this book, Tom Pascoe, left in debt by his vindictive ex-wife, devises a get-rich-quick scheme to forge traveler's checks. The fascinating forgery plan is well-detailed....made me wish I knew how to be a forger. :)
I'm currently reading Blood Song by Anthony Ryan because someone recommended it in an Amazon forum... It's enjoyable enough at this point. Got that slow, epic fantasy pace to it... I get the sense there will be a good tale in it.
Reading David Hagberg's most recent thriller. Always enjoy his books
Also still reading The Monk ....slowly!!
About to read "Dickens In Love."That man's life is as good as any novel....

Greetings,I'm currently reading "Freedom Towards Education: A Survey of the Work of Waldorf Schools Throughout the World." (Lanthorn Press, East Grinstead, 1976).
I was drawn to the books cover whilst browsing in my son's school library ~ a stunning watercolour and, it just happens to be the right timing and area of interest for me!

Just finished Warprize and enjoyed it enough that I'll definitely pick up Warsworn, the second in the series.

Right now I'm reading "A Supremely Bad Idea: Three Mad Birders and Their Quest to See It All" by Luke Dempsey. Someone recommended it on the group "All About Animals". I'm about half way through and I am enjoying it. It's about three mad bird watchers. About their travels and the quest to find that great bird.
The next book on my list which was a group pick is "The Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony, Graham Spence . Everyone who already read it is saying how they loved it.
I'm reading The Black Box by Michael Connelly, a Harry Bosch mystery. You can't go wrong with Harry.

love that plot..for a non-fiction book..sounds like a hoot! (pun intended!)

Just finished "Smokestack," a science fiction book by Hobeck. It's a real page turner and I enjoyed it.
I finished CLOUD ATLAS last week. David Mitchell is a master of prose, creating a series of interlocking character vignettes whose style matches the period and personality of the narrator. The plot is more a puzzle than a narrative. But Mitchell's dexterity with the written word makes this a minor flaw. Well worth reading. I look forward to seeing the movie.
Rick wrote: "I recently read a thriller by Seth Harwood, who is a member of the Group called JACK WAKES UP- it was simply stunning! very much atmospheric and character driven, I was so taken by the lead charact..."Thanks for the suggestion of the Harwood novel, Rick. I will check it out.
Just finished THE TWILIGHT WAR, by David Crist. It's a must read for anyone interested in the last 30 years of American-Iran relations.

I also plan to post some observations here comparing CLOUD ATLAS to the film -- after I've seen it. Hope you and yours are well.
The Monk
I am really enjoying this Gothic novel. Very interesting and quite witty at times. Hard to believe it was written over 210 years ago!!!

The book I started most recently is The Village of Lost Souls. It's fantastic so far. Gotta support my fellow indies!!

Agree Scott. So many of the really great books are being written by independent writers. Extremely important to support them!!

Thanks for the suggestion Rick . I will be reading The Monk In the next week . Incredible that it still has relevance
Today not just from a historical perspective .
1796 does not seem so far away now .

Based on a recommendation from a member here, I'm reading
and thoroughly enjoying it.Whoever that was a couple pages back, thanks.
Presently I'm reading the second book in the Game of Thrones series, A Clash of Kings, and I'm hooked. I'm fascinated by George R.R. Martin's voice and his seemingly endless characters. But my favorite is Tyron Lannister. I hope to finish before the next installment starts on Cable. I don't know which is higher right now, my To be read list or My writing list, I have several going at once. Sultry Summers

Each book in the series is a mammoth undertaking in its own right at 1,000-plus pages, Rick, but once you've read one it's hard not to want to grab the next one and so on. I've read all five so far and can't wait for the last two. Big props to GRRM. He said he wrote the whole thing so it would be too massive for TV to handle, but it's so good HBO grabbed it anyway. Season 3 starts March 31!

appreciate the reply Jack! I agree..usually frown on "adapted" works on TV..yet very nice when the one in a thousand times TV gets it right! HBO has done a great job...watched a few episodes and seemed quite well done..just never read the books!...yet!

I am reading 'The Thief Of Auschwitz' by Jon Clinch. Clinch writes with conviction. His characters are believable and convincing, I love the progression of the story so far. It's incredible this is his first book as an independent author. I knew his previous books were published by Random house.
Read and finished Head Over Heels - Sara Downing. Now I am going back to Name and Number - John Hoskison.

I'll get through all 5, no doubt, but I'm reading between writing my own works, with edits, it is sometimes slow going. I've several projects going too.Still, his style is so into a different 'world' it grabs your attention.

Finished Name and Number - John Hoskison. Now I'm gonna carry on reading Bad Blood: A Vampire Thriller - J.R. Rain.

I'm reading Murder A Cappella by James R. Callan and Diane Bailey A Sweet Adelines Mystery. I'm about 2/3 through. It's musical mayhem at the Alamo. I'm enjoying it very much. A different twist on a murder mystery.
Rick, I'm reading Karen Russell's Vampires in the Lemon Grove, a short story collection. Karen is an award winning author and I love her literary style. So far I've only memorized one poem (not sure why I always remember this one by turn of the century poet, Sarah Teasdale, but here goes:"When I am dead and over me bright April shakes out her rain drenched hair,
though you should lean above me broken hearted, I shall not care
for I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful when rain bends down the bough
and I shall be more silent and cold-hearted than you are now.
I love The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) so many of his reflections are increasingly relevant today.
Isaac Marion, Warm Bodies, is an excellent, funny and heartwarming read. The movie is good, but the book is better.
