While I kill time until Jan. 1, when I'll be starting a common read with another one of my groups, I'm filling some of the gap with Life in the Iron Mills and Other Stories by Rebecca Harding Davis, which I expect to finish in a few days. (I'd already read the title story, back in the 90s, and there are only two other stories in the book, plus a "biographical interpretation" by Tillie Olsen.)

I just finished the second book in The Witch Avenue series by Karice Bolton. Book one irritated me a lot but still managed to make me want to read the second - I'm glad it did. I really enjoyed it. It was simply a pleasure read. I am currently reading Life After Death by Damien Echols. The WM3 story has fascinated me since I first saw the Paradise Lost documentaries. The book is not what I was expecting so far but it is extremely interesting and somewhat disturbing.
I am currently reading "Where Im Calling From" by Raymond Carver and "The Waves" by Virginia Woolf.Im halfway through Carvers collection and didnt care much for the "Will You Please Be Quite, Please" storys, but its picking up, my favourite so far was "Why Dont You Dance?". I am about 1/3 through with "The Waves", its honestly the best book I read this year, I hope it holds up.

I'm currently reading Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr. It's safe to say that you need several boxes of tissue and doses of happy while reading it.
Finishing this book- love the series so very much!
Skip Moore and especially James Lessor are a hoot!!
I am reading Breakdown. It's just one of my "books of chance" I select on Amazon at random for a good read. It's working out really well for my last book of the year.

Below is a review of CYBERSP@CE by Rick Friedman.
"A devastating cyber attack leaves 100,000 people in the United States dead, and evidence points to the Chinese, setting the world on the inevitable march towards nuclear war. Nick Reynolds with US Cyber Command soon learns that former KGB agent Nikolai Chervanko, who has long dreamt of rebuilding his beloved Soviet Union, could be behind the massacre, with something even bigger planned. Lacking evidence linking Chervanko, however, outrage over the attack soon forces the United States to declare war on China. With no means to stop another destructive cyber attack and prevent a nuclear conflict, Nick finds help from an unlikely source from Area 51. Will Nick be able to avert a global holocaust? Find out in Cyber Space"
When I read a new techno-thriller by Jeff Horton..I know I am in for a most superb reading experience. I am happy to say that Cybersp@ce continues to showcase the immense skills of a truly wonderful writer. Plot, character and pace are all pitch perfect, as the reader is swept up into the fast and absorbing action of Cybersp@ce.
Key to the success of any action novel is the lead character. Jeff Horton is an expert at fine tuning his lead- Nick Reynolds - into a fully realized character..flaws and all. The same is true with the large cast of supporting characters..there is not a false note to be found.
The plot involving cyber-terror and world politics is both complex and facinating..not to mention very timely. I was uttely drawn in from the first chapter to the very satisfying climax. Jeff Horton has once again shown that he is a master storyteller! Highly Recommended!!!

Whilst on WiFi (on a Greyhound bus travelling to Cleveland, Ohio --- yesterday's snowstorm has made everything topsy-turvy - UGH! - hope to be back in my apartment tonight), I'm reading "Glamorous Powers" by Susan Howatch. It's a fantastic, finely crafted novel set in Britain during 1940 and centered around Jon Darrow, a Fordite monk with psychic powers who is in the midst of a spiritual crisis and seeks a resolution to said crisis from the Abbot Father of his Order.
A whole swag of non-fiction titles that I'm slowly posting on my site...the titles and whys will come.
Just finished re-reading The Faded Sun TrilogyI should start on
Exile's Song
in the next day or two. Long ago I read the previous two books in the series.

I'm finishing Lee Child's "A Wanted Man" and starting Barbara Kingsolver's "Flight Behaviour". They're a bit different from each other! This year I have read more Scandinavian thriller/crime novels than I ever imagined to exist and I still love them. Bring on the rest.
I'm finishing a couple of books soon, "The Reality Dysfunction, Part 1" by Peter F Hamilton is one. I love SF, so of course, I'm reading it. I'm also almost finished "Excelsior" by George Sirois, which is an indie ebook I picked up for free. It's another SF book.I'm also reading "Hi! My Name is Loco and I am a Racist" by Baye McNeil. He's an acquaintance of mine here in Japan, and I got an autographed copy. Good writer.
What am i reading? Where to start. Just finished Christine Feehans latest in the dark series, on book four of Game of Thrones (a feast of crows) and still trying to wrap my brain around how George R R Martin just kills off all my favourite characters. Just finished a Gena Showalter and and J R Ward. Have downloaded a few i cant wait to start, so busy busy busy!

Just finished a couple Harry Bosch books and an Arkady Renko book. I have more Bosch and some Vince Flynn being sent but I think I'm going to scrounge through some Dean Koontz stuff my daughter left behind.Definitely won't be any Odd Thomas ones. I read the first one and was pizzed at Koontz for the ending (don't want to spoil it too much), i haven't come back for more in a year.
I started Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia today :)

Ken I read all the Odd Thomas books - except the first...Odd of me I know...I love the character- yet there seems to be a bit of repetition .. Odd travels someplace..gets into a ghostly situation...ect ect..I reallywish he would return to his hometown Pico Mundo- and have the same characters that I so enjoyed in Book Two (Ozzie the 400lb writer ect) return.

Just finished The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields. I recieved 5 books for Christmas and I'm starting Odd Apocalyps by Dean Koontz
I'm going back to "The Velveteen Rabbit" tonight ~ a beautiful book I read for myself and with my son. It takes me to a place of deep contemplation and wonderment about the nature of love and how we live with love...
I've just started Middlemarch. Why, because I've yet to be disappointed by a classic. Well, except Gatsby. That was bad.
Now reqding Kraken by China Mieville, about a giant squid that is stolen from a London museum. I was bought it last Christmas.
Some good reads that I've finished recently and recommend include Rainwater, Learning to Swim, and The Bartender's Tale. I'm currently reading the very funny memoir, Enslaved by Ducks, and next on my list is a mystery by one of my favorite authors, A Trick of the Light.
I've just started reading Cloud Atlas. I chose it because it promised to be a big story showing the connections between people across time and distance. I'm struggling a bit with the complexity of the writing, and the way the author opens his lens so wide that I'm not sure where to look - but it is fascinating and I sense the promise of a reward for my patience.
Just started two books: A STORM OF SWORDS by George R.R. Martin and LIFE OF PI by Yann Martel. Why? I must finish what I started with Martin. In addition, I started and could not finish both the Caldera Series by Jim Butler and Malazan Series by Steven Erikson. I really need to cleanse my palate before diving back into both of those books this year. For the LIFE OF PI, I guess curiosity mostly. Plus, I always want to read the book before watching the movie, so....

I wasn't as big of a fan of this standalone of Child's. It was good but not as good as the other I read by him.
I'm currently reading
I've "met" the author through the blogosphere and suspect I may be the reason he retired his first two efforts at self-publishing (oops!). He's still young and green, but through his blog posts I've seen him improving his writing immensely over time. So, I'm giving this one a go. Regardless of how I end up feeling about it (it's not bad to start), I'm keen to see this author develop and do well in his career.
I'm reading 'The Lawyer's Lawyer' by James Sheehan. Why? Because I've already finished 'The Mayor of Lexington Avenue' and 'The Law of Second Chances' and I really like Jim's plot lines and the Paul Newman-esque main character, Jack Tobin.
?? 'The Lawyer's Lawyer' ?? A flippant woman detective - divorced, and except for her attitude..."available"; Jack Tobin deluding himself that he wants to be retired; a couple of Florida-style beer-drinking buddies who have the disrespectful habit of telling Jack (a) why women don't like him; and (b) what bad decisions he's about to make.
Courtroom drama is The Best when written by James Sheehan. This book is going to Panama City with me next month. I'll tell you how it ends -- well, no, THAT'S a bad idea.
