I just ordered Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. I loved the HBO serie 'The Wire' and never realized it was grounded in a non-fiction book. If the book is even close to the series for just damn good, I can't wait for it to arrive.

Pretty Little LiarsI enjoy the series so I thought that I would try out the book series and see if it is just as good. The books are crazier than the show.
In September, another of my Goodreads groups will be doing Mark Finn's biography of Robert E. Howard,
, as a common read. While I'm waiting to take part in this, I'm passing the time with one of the volumes of the long-running Sword and Sorceress series of original swords-and-sorcery stories with female protagonists (edited by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley),
.

Right now I'm reading an old Sandra Brown novel called Adams Fall, because, well, I found it in my closet. That being said, it's a really good story so far. Maybe it's just me, but I like the style in a lot of the 80's thru mid 90's books.
I am reading Dean Konntz's Odd Apocalypse. I love Dean's writing style and his characters. I adore Odd Thomas!

I've read all of her books so far x
I've given up on Lifeblood - J. Przymus for now and now reading The Ghost Rock Cafe - Chinle Miller.
Just finished Last Poems by A.E. Housman.Loved it, many touching war poems, like this one:
The night is freezing fast,
To-morrow comes December;
And winterfalls of old
Are with me from the past;
And chiefly I remember
How Dick would hate the cold.
Fall, winter, fall; for he,
Prompt hand and headpiece clever,
Has woven a winter robe,
And made of earth and sea
His overcoat for ever,
And wears the turning globe.

Started reading Ender's Game. Why? I had a vote on my blog about what to read next, and it was next.
Just finished The Prisoner of Heaven, which I loved, as I do all of Zafon's books, and feel the need to reread The Shadow of the Wind, which I have just re-started, and will then return to The Angel's Game. Also just started reading The Last Policeman: A Novel by Ben H. Winters. I like the concept of how would you spend your last six months.
This morning I finished The Ghost Rock Cafe - Chinle Miller. Now I think I will read Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins.

Yes I agree!!! Definately going to read it soon! Although second book reveals some- initial book on Odd Thomas must be magnificent!

I enjoyed Forever Odd- just wish that there were more characters- about 200 pages were devoted to Odd's attempt to free his friend in a broken down casino - had it not been for how likable Odd is- I probably would have been unable to read a book that over 2/3 of it took place in one location- but I really did enjoy it!

I'm reading Behind the Redwood Door by John M. Daniel. At first I wasn't sure where it was headed because of political comments by the characaters, but that's not what's it's about now that I'm into it. Really enjoying it and can't wait to see where it goes.

While I'm here, the one I just finished was The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years by Chingiz Aitmatov. Humanity v. the State in 20thC Kazakhstan: a fable.
Just finished
Pretty good thriller- though I cannot say it was David Baldacci's best- quick read but not very interesting lead character- rather one-note and just enjoyed his earlier books more

Reading Munster's Case: An Inspector Van Veeteren Mystery by Hakan Nesser and listening to Beloved by Toni Morrison on CD. This has been on my "to read" list for a while and I am so moved by this book. Halfway through it and it is horrific, tender, sad, beautiful, and full of grace all at the same time. I am quite simply blown away by the story so far. This audiobook is read by the author and I usually don't enjoy authors reading their own books. Ms. Morrison's narration is a very pleasant surprise.
I am reading both The Return of the Native & The Unbearable Lightness of Being.I am reading both of these because they are on my 1001 book challenge list. I've read one of Hardy's already, & even though he can be a BIT long winded sometimes, I like his story telling style.
I'm reading A Knight in Central Park
by Theresa Ragan. The cover of this book caught my eye about a year ago and I'm finally getting a chance to read it. I like NY. I like medieval. Why not?
I've almost finished Sacre Bleu by Christopher Moore. Unlike any other Moore book I've read but very very good. Surrounding the death of Vincent van Gogh begin to remember experiences around The Colorman, a woman and the color blue. Witty but subtle very interesting read.
I just started Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. I'm a big fan of The Wire series and this book was the inspiration. Just started yesterday and I have to admit, it doesn't quite click with me. If I had to describe it, it feels a little Wambaugh-ish. The 'color' feels a little enhanced. Hope I'm wrong and it gets better.
I finished reading One Second After by William R. Forstchen which deals with the aftermath of a post electromagnetic pulse attack on the US, and in particular on a small North Carolina community. It was frighteningly plausible, so the next book I chose was the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy (mainly to see what the fuss is all about). I'm reading the second book of the trilogy now.
Odd Apocalypse About halfway through. I've been a huge fan of Dean Koontz for years, and have loved his "Odd" books...this one for some reason has been very slow reading, though. *sigh* Not enjoying it nearly so much.
Martha wrote: "I am reading The Shadow Queen at the moment. It is a fictional account of Wallis Simpson and quite interesting."
Interested in the books take on Wallis- from all I heard- She and Edward were quite snooty and let's not even go into Edward's connections to the Nazi's

Per: I agree with you about him. There's such an odd combination of melancholy and stoicism in his work. Life is hard, and must be endured.Shelley

As a mystery set in Florence 1963 with an ingenious crime--more how-done-it than who-done-it, Death in August: A Novelshares a lot of what I like about Donna Leon's books. My review.

Currently reading Term Limits by Vince Flynn. Good background information if you are reading other Flynn books. Still a stand alone story. Why haven't I seen any of the O'Rourke's in other Flynn stories?

After just getting home from spending the summer in Budapest, Hungary I uploaded a copy of 'The Invisible Bridge' - NYT best seller. How intriguing ALWAYS to read debut novels, this one in particular where the reader (in this case ;) is walking the same streets as the author. Go to Budapest! Read 'The Invisible Bridge' !
