Probably because there are more colors than numbers.
Hmm...well, the basic colors I can think of are red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and black/white if you count those. If someone did a color other than those, yeah, it'd be unreasonably hard for us beginner people. ;)
