Well, as Saki is a master of comic (humorous) stories, and Flannery O'Connor presumably writes about things less humorous, then I guess your list is open to all genre..?
Suggestions, that come to my mind, are:
Alan Sillitoe / Graham Greene - 'Real life' stories;
Alexei Sayle - Humour;
Brian Aldiss / Piers Anthony - Science fiction;
Herman Melville - 'Herman Melville' stories;
Raymond Chandler - Crime.
I'm sorry, these are all authors, not a list of their books. I'll see if I can add a few (I'm new to this).

Aside from Saki, my first on the list is "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor.
Any other suggestions?
