Mann is my favorite 20th century European author, and this is a great quote from him. I'm adding it to my favorites.

Its part of why I detest and despise everything digital: this horrible conceit that its permanent, that "it's always going to be available". It won't be. If the history of technology shows anything, it shows that this assumption is utter falsehood.
