Carol Hello.. My name is Carol. I very seldom join groups of any kind as I would rather spend my time reading than talking about books. This group though, sounds like one I'd enjoy exploring.

My interests are varied. I like good books in many genres, especially history, non-fiction, classic literature and biography. 30's and 40's musicals from Hollywood's Golden Age are a special passion of mine.. love Busby Berkeley and well made film noir mystery/crime drama.

I look forward to seeing what the James Mason Club has to offer. It should be fun!

Eve (mizzeve) | 6 comments Hi everyone. I'm in the Army and stationed in rural MO. My grandmother was an elementary school teacher/librarian and I grew up devouring books (Laura Ingals Wilder, Chronicles of Narnia were my favs). Now I have two Kindles and a smart phone. I don't have to carry around a bulky book, so I can read every chance I get.

I like PA (post-apocolypse), mystery, memoirs, and contemporary novels. I'm failing at making a dent in my to-read list because I keep adding more books.

I want to take a moment to thank those people who send books to military personnel when we deploy. I cannot tell you what a difference it makes to be to escape to a space filled with books. Thank you. Thank you.

I agree- what a wonderful and caring action for one to take- sending books to those serving overseas!!
if there are any organized groups that facilitate this- please do post links!

Hi Kyle. I have written two books. 'Murder and Enlightenment' is a Victorian thriller. The second, 'People, Pubs and Enlightenment' is a humorous look at those of us who 'like a drink'. As you can see I'm into the subject of Enlightenment, or as I prefer to think of it, The New Paradigm or New Thinking. Thanks for your welcome.

Leighton Gage | 10 comments I love James Mason.
I don't know how old I was when I saw "Five Fingers", but that scene of him on the terrace overlooking the harbor of Rio has stuck with me forever. Maybe that's one of the reasons I live in Brazil now. And, despite being very anti-Nazi, I've always been a bit sorry that he didn't get away with it. He was, after all, James Mason.

K. K. | 5 comments I love good stories and good storytelling. The genre doesn't matter. It's wonderful to find so many people who love books!

I am the author of The Concubine's Gift. Here's the description.

Bernice Babbitt, a sexually inhibited, thirty-nine-year-old woman, leads a peaceful life in the tiny resort town of Valentine, Nevada. Living only two miles from the famed bordello, The Honey Bunny Ranch, she can’t imagine what goes on inside its closed doors.

Things begin to change when Bernice buys an old, black-lacquer makeup case in an antique shop. The case once belonged to Blissful Night, the most famous and powerful concubine in Hong Kong. According to legend, Blissful Night could give a man more pleasure in one night than he would have experienced in an entire lifetime.

Inside the makeup case, Bernice discovers a forgotten jar of face powder with magical properties, the secret to Blissful Night’s success. Thinking the face powder is an herbal concoction that will beautify her skin, Bernice begins to use it, only to find that the powder causes her to see visions of other people’s sex lives.

Bernice is horrified to discover that the only way she can rid herself of the visions is to blurt out sexual advice. Soon the entire town is in an uproar. But it isn’t until she learns more about Blissful Night’s past that she knows what she must do.

The Concubine’s Gift is a delightfully sexy novel in which Bernice is drawn into a seductive world she never knew existed. A provocative and entertaining Pandora’s Box of a tale!

My name is Lakisha Spletzer and I'm an indie cross-genre author of sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal romance stories.

I debuted in 2010 with my sci-fi novel, "Jewels", which is an international Kindle top 100 bestseller in the US, German and French stores.

I write for all ages because it's fun and it's a challenge. I'm a single parent so my kids and my writing are my life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Blak Rayne (blakraynebooks) | 3 comments My name's Blak. I'm currently published within the romance/erotic genre. I have plans to publish fantasy/sci-fi as well. As far as literature goes, I don't have any one favourite author and I'll read just about anything that sparks my interest. I have a tendency to gravitate more towards British authors within the mystery, fantasy, sci-fi and paranormal genres, but also enjoy a well written comedy. I've read most the classics. Some favoured authors J.R.R. Tolkien, John Cleese, Dickens, Agatha Christie, R.D. Wingfield, Janet Evanovich, Minette Walters, David Eddings, Terry Brooks, C. S. Lewis, Kazuma Kodaka, L.M. Montgomery, Joseph Wambaugh, Robin Cook etc.

Welcome, Eve. We have some reading tastes in common and my mother was a country school teacher (I went to grade school in one of the one-room country schools, grades 1-8 and one teacher). I don't remember not being able to read, really.

I can understand getting books when on deployment. I was a military wife and remember when we were stationed in Spain, the library there was truly deplorable ... the one thing I really missed.

message 4442: by Angela (new)

Angela (annathepiper) Hey there folks,

Rick invited me in, so I thought I'd poke my head in and say hi! I'm Angela Korra'ti, author of a little urban fantasy novel called Faerie Blood and a short story called "The Blood of the Land", previously published through Drollerie Press. I'm also a voracious reader and try to post regular reviews right here on Goodreads as well as on my blog.

I'm most fond of SF/F, historical romance, romantic suspense, mystery, and occasional horror. My favorite authors in the SF/F realm include Jim Butcher, C.E. Murphy, Julie Czerneda, Rachel Caine, Cherie Priest, Kat Richardson, and Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant. Mystery, gimme some Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels, Imogen Robertson, Tana French, or C.S. Harris. Over in romance land, I like me some Courtney Milan, Kate Noble, and Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb.

Most of my reading is electronic these days though I do also happily still read in print if it's an author I love well enough.

My own work's not currently formally for sale since Drollerie Press unfortunately shut down this past October, but I will happily hand-sell my work to anyone interested, and I'm investigating the possibility of self-publishing. If you'd like to find out more about that do feel free to drop me a line via messaging here on Goodreads, or come find me on my site at angelakorrati.com.

Please do also say hi if we have favorite authors in common, or if you write stuff that you feel falls along the same lines of any of the authors I've listed! I'm always on the hunt for new reads, and I'm willing to read and review self-pubbed/small-press-pubbed stuff, too.

Cheers all,
Angela

Genres are unimportant; I just like a good story (though I love above all else books that make me laugh)! Some of my favorite authors are Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchett, Charles Portis, Salman Rushdie, Douglas Adams, Tim Dorsey, Mark Twain, John Sandford, Blake Crouch, J.A. Konrath, F. Paul Wilson, A. Lee Martinez, Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, Joseph Campbell, Stephen Batchelor. Eclectic, I know, and that's just scratching the surface!

I also love Jane Austen, perhaps because she never married but wrote six profoundly beautiful books. There's hope for me after all, even if I never find a husband.
