Sean Black (seanblack) | 2 comments Thanks to Rick for inviting me to join the group. I write the Ryan Lock series of thrillers which are published in the UK by Bantam/Transworld (who also publish Dan Brown, Lee Child and Tess Gerritsen). If you're in the US, the books are now available in e-book format via the usual channels (http://www.amazon.com/Lockdown-Ryan-L...) They have also been translated into Dutch, German and Russian.

They are very fast-paced action thrillers set in the US, and I guess what singles them out from the pack would be the hands-on nature of my research. For instance, for the second book, Deadlock, I spent time inside Pelican Bay Supermax in California, where the first half of the book takes place.

There's a lot more info on my website: www.seanblackbooks.com

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 3 comments Hi, I should have joined this group months ago but I seem to always be in the middle of something. I look forward to rummaging around your group and getting (stealing) some ideas.

I am one of the moderators for the UK Kindle group here on Goodreads so I have a strong interest in ebooks and the Kindle.

I am a bit of a geeky gadget man but to try to make out I am just like a normal human being I share my personal space with an earless blind cat (hmmm).

message 4116: by D.A. (new)

D.A. Blankinship (dablankinship) | 3 comments Greetings all!

I learned of this group from Susie Sharp. Her enthusiasm for the community appears to be well-founded.

My name is Dave Blankinship and I am always happy to be called “Dave.”

My education and training is in psychology, counseling, and behavioral research. I often describe myself as a recovering behavioral scientist. Most of my “working life” has been in government research and higher education and I enjoy discussions about teaching and the characteristics of academic excellence.

Most of my published works are “scholarly” in the sense that normal people really would not care to wade through the obsessive detailing of rationales, reviews of literature, and methodology. To be honest, I can’t remember re-reading a single article after it appeared in a national journal. A few years back, I began writing fiction as my own form of escapism. I have three books published that allow me to explore topics that are important to me and keep the issues sufficiently abstract by calling them fiction. “Phontaine’s Gifts” is my most recent work and it is a post-apocalyptic tale that avoids zombies, marauding cannibals, and all the other extremes in human failure to cope with the unthinkable. “Phontaine’s Gifts” reflects my personal experiences with the apocalyptic situation in Ethiopia and eastern Africa right now. People living in devastating circumstances just do not live up to the Hollywood hype of Mad Maxx.

My website is www.tenparinc.com and you will find lots of free reading material there. In honor of the season, I am giving away free copies of “Jewel’s Unexpected Friends.” It is a short story about protecting innocence and the stunning power of compassion. The website has a link on the first page, called “Free is Fun.”

Murdo Morrison My thanks to Rick for the invitation to join the group. My name is Murdo Morrison. I have two books listed on the site. The first is Roses of Winter, a novel set in World War 2 Scotland. The second, A Hole Without Sides, is an account of my time as a volunteer for the British organization Community Service Volunteers and subsequent time working in mental health in the early 1970s.

I joined the club to share my reading experience and other members' as well!

message 4132: by Rohan (new)

Rohan | 7 comments Hi all,

I'm a lecturer in English at a polytechnic college in the Zachodnie-Pomorskie area of Poland. Originally from Scotland I've a wide number of reading interests, but particularly enjoy good genre fiction (crime, horror, sci-fi, fantasy), as well as American poetry, Scottish literature and the usual 'classic' suspects, such as Jack London, Herman Melville, Frank Norris, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson and Mark Twain. I'm also a big fan of graphic novels and have a particular passion for the works of Joe Sacco, Daniel Clowes and Charles Burns, as well as the comicbook genius of Grant Morrison. The last 'material' book I finished reading was Jonathan Safran Foer's 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close', which I thought a delightful and moving rumination on loss and meaning. Presently I'm reading lots of coursebooks for my classes on writing, as well as trying to put together bits of my own work.

I'm also a big fan of both film and television, as I generally love good story in whatever medium it may be served, so you'll probably find quite a few of my posts also talk about film. You can catch up with some of my article and review writing on my blogsite:- berryapercu@wordpress.com

I've got articles on Peter Carey, Lewis Grassic Gibbon, Wim Wenders and The Coen Brothers on here, as well as a review of Belinda Bauer's excellent crime novel 'Blacklands' and countless movie reviews.

Thank you to the hosts of this group for allowing me to join the discussion.
