Child abduction, regardless of the perpetrator, is the misery that will never go away. It is a child abduction that forms the core for my new novel, Evil Deeds, which will be released on 11/11/11. Although a fictionalized account of an actual event, just writing about it gave me chills.

Hi everyone, I'm thrilled to be part of the group!I'd say I'm equal parts author and reader. I love thrillers and mysteries, particularly espionage, so I'd love to get in on any discussion in that area. Some of my favorite books that I've read recently were The Tourist and Nearest Exit by Olen Steinhauer.
I've had one book published called 'The Pirates of Aden'. It's about an American ex-pat working in Somalia who unwittingly gets wrapped up in the hijacking of a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden. If you're interested in piracy, conspiracies, or fast paced international thrillers, you might be interested in checking it out.
Rick, thanks for inviting me. YOu are truly the kindest host and this site is so rich.I am mostly a reader. I am always reading something. It continually amazes me how it is free to continue to educate onself throughout life. So much to read; so little time!
I divide my time evenly between nonfiction (history, biography, travel memoirs) and mystery fiction. I did read quite a bit of the classic "canon" as a young person; now I am filling in the gaps (Still have not read Henry James, PRoust, Henry MIller, or Ernest Hemingway) and enjoying other stuff as it presents itself.
For some reason Rick has also invited me. I am an old hippie now living in Southwest with a varied interest in books and movies. I mainly read history, biography, horror, SF, mystery and thrillers. Oh yeah, big JFK and UFO conspiracy buff as well. I have been a salesman most of my life but the last decade I have served as a contractor. Grew up in Western NY but now love the desert. Stopped by Ohio, Michigan, Indiana on the way West. Also Hockey, baseball and football fan. (Sabres, Reds, and Bills)
Currently reading:
1. Inner Circle
2. Cavalry at Gettysburg
3. Dr. Who novel on Nook
4. Carnick novel by Meikle on PC Kindle.
Howdy everybody

Rangers??? Sigh, however, always good to find a fellow Hockey fanatic. I have not read many hockey books. Any recommendations?
Hello Rick and everyone. I am new to Goodreads and to the group but I am gradually finding my way around the site. I wear a couple of hats being an author as well as an avid reader of anything from the dramas of Pat Conroy to the thrillers of Ken Follet and the great sweeping sagas of Wilbur Smith. I look forward to taking part in any of the discussions that will arise. For anyone who gets around to reading my Kindle published book( the link is below) I would be grateful for any feedback. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UQXOCU/r...
Hello everyone!I'm Bridget from Northern California, new author, long time reader and long time writer. I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on and haven't stopped yet. I have a serious overcrowding problem with books at my house. I moved about a year ago and found even more boxes of books that were hiding! My trouble is when I start going through my old books, I start reading them again. It makes it tough to let any go, so I just live surrounded by bookshelves and stacks of books. Life could be worse!
My first book is an epic fantasy, The Path of Light. When I'm not reading or watching the SF Giants (baseball), the SF 'Niners (football) or the Duke Blue Devils (college basketball); I'm scribbling away on something. I was a sports writer for my local paper for a number of years and loved everyone minute of it!
It's good to meet you all and I look forward to diving into some of the great looking discussions in this group.

Thanks the link needed an update since the book is now linked to Amazon. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi guys,I have no idea how I will meet everybody here, but it sounds like a nice challenge.
My name is Regina, I'm from New York. Originally I came from Ukraine, somewhat a big city called Ivano-Frankivsk. Which I think has a pretty cool history. I love reading, writing, talking and almost anything that’s fun. I'm always looking for new friends, and more people to read with. If you like what I’ve said so far then add me.
You can also add me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/regina.hunter3
Or check out my new channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/ReginasBooks
I will gladly give you back Dusty!. To make this relevant for the group, the single best baseball book I read was "Crazy '08: How a Cast of Cranks, Rogues, Boneheads, and Magnates Created the Greatest Year in Baseball History by Cait Murphy and Robert W. Creamer (Paperback - Feb 19, 2008)" The Giants are well featured. Dave

Good evening everyone, thank you very much for the invite. G'day all,I'm an Australian. Seeing as I've many, many read more books than I've written, I guess that makes me more of a readers than a writer.
But I dabble with the pen (who am I kidding? I traded in my quill for a computer with a word program long ago) and my latest humour/satirical novel is
I like reading things that make me laugh - eg: CArl Hiassen, Roddy Doyle, Colin Bateman and Billy Bryson - but I also have a flip side. I like intrigue and mystery too - eg: Ian Rankin and John le Carre. And sometimes I find comfort right in the middle.

I also love historical fiction, Anggie- it seems to me that this genre has really taken off- always popular- but seems like it has reached a new level of popularity!
I was just thinking about this subject today- and pondered on possible reasons for spike in popularity of historical fiction (in addition to wonderful quality) and perhaps because there is so very much going on in today's world,so complex and in many cases worrisome- that it is nice to read a book and "mind-travel" back to another time- I know that is a big appeal for me.

Thanks to Rick for inviting me to join. I'm Peg Herring, mystery writer with two series going, the historical Simon & Elizabeth (Tudor) mysteries and the sorta/kinda paranormal series the Dead Detective mysteries.I read mysteries avidly, usually three or four at a time: one in the bedroom, one at the breakfast table, one...well, you get the idea!
Greetings, everyone. I'm glad to be a part of this group. I read mostly literary fiction. My first novel, Scattershot, has just been published by the good folks at Seedpod Publishing.
Am enjoying the conversations here. Would welcome feedback on any of my novels (Evil Deeds, Terror Cell, The Nostradamus Secret, The Pythagorean Solution).

FACINATING PLOT! Joseph have you had along interest in Nostradamus and if so, did that play a role in your choice of topic and title?

My interest has been more in the Nostradamus biography than in the man's reputation as a "prophet." What got me interested in Nostradamus was the fact that on 9/12/2001, more people worldwide accessed the Nostradamus website than any other site on that day, wondering if he had predicted the 9/11 attacks.

Thanks so much for the invitation Rick -- seems like a great group! As you can probably tell from my books, I love reading (and writing) nonfiction, realistic fiction, and children's books of all types. Look forward to connecting ...
Thanks to Rick for the invite. Glad to be aboard. I've got two novels up on Amazon, 1 in print, both on Kindle. Links: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004R1QFIE and http://tinyurl.com/psychic-fair I tend to read a lot of non-fiction, though recent fiction would include Water for Elephants (pedestrian); The Family Fang (ok, not what the critics have it down as); The Art of Fielding (a complete fraud, makes me think everyone at the Times is a liar); IQ84 (so far, very intriguing; I'm on page 300). Best fiction I've read in last two years: The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. A knockout. 5 stars. A book folks will be reading until time ends. Cheers!

Welcome David, Donna and George- so very nice to have you join us!!
I have just rejoined the group at Rick's invitation, thanks Rick. At the moment I am pushing for funding for the Northern Lights Wildlife Society aka Bear Rescue Facility. I entered the facility, with their permission, on the yearly Aviva Community Funding Competition and we are in phase 3, heading to the semi-finals! Yippee!! This has been a very time-consuming promotion to get votes. Strangely, although I love animals and have dealt with them quite a lot through the years, I find it difficult to read animal stories. Considering this shelter has so many orphaned and injured animals to treat and rehabilitate, especially bear cubs including the Kermode (Spirit) Bear, it's no wonder I find most books upset me too much. On the other hand, I appear to enjoy mysteries, suspense, thrillers, cozies, adventures, discoveries, fantasy, biographies, and medical mysteries and non-fiction. So there you have it, I'm a totally mixed up person with a lot of caring. Glad to be here. Please vote for the cause and spread the word, I sneakily added the link to the voting in this comment! ;-)
