Kirsten (kmcripn) | 18 comments I listened to a podcast from the Australian broadcaster ABC Radio National where Indian novelist Jerry Pinto listed his top 5 Indian novels that people should read:

Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie
The Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh
Baumgartner's Bombay by Anita Desai
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
The Room on the Roof by Ruskin Bond

The entire podcast can be downloaded here: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/p...

Any thoughts? Additions? Subtractions?

Beachesnbooks I read A Fine Balance and it was incredibly sad and powerfully written. I haven't read any of the others, (I started Midnight's Children but have yet to finish it) but personally I thought that The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy was extremely good. I also liked Cuckold by Kiran Nagarkar. Thanks for posting this list--I'll have to look up the others!
