Josie (j4shaw) | 47 comments So...who's read it?
Judges described this debut writer’s work as ‘moving and sophisticated; well-researched and original; intellectually engaging and emotionally gripping’

What did you think????

Michael Livingston (manosand) | 5 comments I thought it was fantastic - evocative of the time and place it was set in (the 1930s Melbourne art world, centred around the Heide crew) and with a wonderful and sad story to tell. In some ways it's a traditional coming of age story, but the struggles of Lily to fit in with her friend Eva's sophisticated artistic family and the portrait of a bohemian scene gradually unravelling take it up a level.

As an aside: the Stella long list was full of wonderful books this year - Foreign Soil, Nest, Heat and Light, The Golden Age and Golden Boys would all have been worthy winners.
