The dead ship surgeon on the Porpoise was named Hunter. 3d Dr Hunter I can think of. Was he related to the other two?

message 1130: by Terri (new)

Terri Vaught (terriann14) | 59 comments Right , Ann. You go.

message 1131: by Ann (new)

Ann (sleepyguider) | 198 comments Claire and Brianna hate wearing whale bone corsets. What part of a whale is used to make them?
I apologise that this is not strictly from the book but corsets are mentioned so many times and I find this a fascinating fact.

message 1132: by Tina (new)

Tina | 162 comments This is very interesting. Whalebone corsets or stays are made from the filtering system inside the whale's mouth. When the whale opens it's mouth to feed it filters out the water and the krill are left caught in the whalebone filter. They used this for corsets because of the flexability.

message 1133: by Ann (new)

Ann (sleepyguider) | 198 comments Yes . Glad I am not the only one who thinks it is interesting.

As they call them whale bone corsets I always presumed they were made from whale bone. But they are made from Baleen the long strips of flexible material that hang down in some whales mouths to filter out the krill. Great general knowledge question.
Well done. Now what do you have for us?

message 1134: by Tina (new)

Tina | 162 comments My question is not as interesting..but here it is...

How many children did Jocasta have? Bonus..What happen to them?
