That scene was pretty disturbing but I don't find it problematic. The whole point of that story was to elicit empathy from the reader. Unfortunately georgette is alienated and looking for human connection in whatever desperate way he can find it. I don't think the homosexual act is contradictory to Vinnie and the other guys behavior. In fact, this was a strange part of prison culture in that late 50s/ early 60s. And vinnie was fresh out of the joint. It's taboo in prison culture these days but back then it didn't mean more than getting off. I thought it was a pretty effective scene because Georgette ultimately wins the readers compassion, despite the radical way it was portrayed. That scene is indelible! Seriously fucked me up


And YES I would find sex with a man problematic.
