25.1 - XBM's Task: An Author in the Family

Two of the books I read for the Fall season were written by daughters whose mothers were also authors. That got me thinking about other families, like mine, with multiple authors in them. For example, there are the Brontes, the Kings, the Walkers and the Wests, to name a few.

This is a two book task.

Read two books, each by individual authors who are related, either husband/wife, parent/child, siblings, grandparent/grandchild, or cousins. For the purposes of this task, two related people writing under one pseudonym CANNOT be used. Books written by more than one related author can be used if they are listed as individual authors, but each book only counts for one author.

Required: State the relationship and provide a reference if it is not obvious from one of the author pages.

Ex:
Can be used:
written by father/son pairings: When the Bough Breaks (Alex Delaware, #1) by Jonathan Kellerman and The Genius by Jesse Kellerman ; The Stand by Stephen King and Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
written by multiple related authors: The Golem of Hollywood (Detective Jacob Lev, #1) by Jonathan Kellerman or Dragon's Kin (Pern, #16) by Anne McCaffrey

Cannot be used:
Emerald Blaze (Hidden Legacy, #5) by Ilona Andrews and Ice Cold Heart (Monkeewrench, #10) by P.J. Tracy husband/wife and mother/daughter using pseudonym as single author

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 94 comments Can I ask if I was to read The Golem of Hollywood (Detective Jacob Lev, #1) by Jonathan Kellerman which has both Jesse Kellerman and Jonathan Kellerman as joint authors. Can I read Bad Love (Alex Delaware, #8) by Jonathan Kellerman - Jonathan Kellerman as well? For the 2 books?

Yes, absolutely. We'll credit Jesse with the first, and his father with the second.

That's exactly what I thought.

It's fun to see how many authors are part of a literary family!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1647 comments Sorry, I am confused and need assurance-

I could read Dragon's Kin for book 1

For book 2, does it have to be just one of the authors or can it be a pairing of the same two?

Helen | 194 comments Hi. Will an aunt/ niece relationship work?
Winifred Peck- aunt
Penelope Fitzgerald- niece

Joanne, just one, but please claim the book with both authors to the author you are not using for the second book.

@Helen, Aunt/niece works, just document the relationship if it isn't obvious. Got to keep the moderator happy.

Kathy KS | 2462 comments Two questions:

I think you answered the first concerning the Herberts, but still checking. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Bill Clinton (husband & wife) have both written books with other co-authors (not each other). Can I read two of those?
State of Terror by Hillary Rodham Clinton
The President's Daughter by Bill Clinton

Second:
Katie Fforde is a cousin-in-law of Jason Fforde (her husband is his cousin). Would they work?
Restoring Grace by Katie Fforde
The Big Over Easy (Nursery Crime, #1) by Jasper Fforde
