YA Fantasy: 2000-2010 range. Main character has magic powers and can store up the powers in gems.

I’m reading Kingdom of Ash and keep wanting Aelin, who has fire powers, to store her magic up in the ruby on her sword. There’s a book I read once where there was a belt, a sword, a gauntlet, so many things to store energy to be unleashed in wars.

It is *not* Deloras Quest after some of the synopsis of it. It’s similar where there’s different size rubies, colors, etc, but the gems don’t give different powers, they store energy for a magic wielder to use when depleted.

I feel like it was pretty popular, but we shall see. Unknown if main character was male or female. I just felt like more than 1 character could store magic up, but one was significantly more powerful than the others.

This is a humbling moment for me- pretty sure I was talking about Eragon! I shall reread and see. Now I know why Mistborn kept tugging on my brain too - main character journey with an advisortype of stuff
