Hello Graveyard shift Skeletons! I am excited to be your team captain for this reading challenge and I am so excited to see the wonderful books that will be read for this challenge! Let's get to know each other a little bit and feel free to share your favorite spooky Halloween treat or favorite piece of candy!

This challenge starts on Friday, October 24th and ends on Thursday November 27th. The winning team will be announced on Friday, November 28th!

WAYS TO EARN POINTS

☀️You’ll earn points depending on how long the book you read is:

100-200 pages =+1 point
201-300 pages =+2 points

Prompts Used: Favorite character? Minnie: she is so full of life and eager to prove to herself that she is able to be who she wants to be.
Did enjoy the plot of the book and how it developed?
I really enjoyed the build of this book. It kept me engaged and kept me looking forward to reading more. I feel like I sometimes view myself a bit like Minnie, where I feel like I need to prove something to myself so it was interesting to watch her change over the time of the book.

Review: This book was amazing from start to finish. From the very first chapter, I was completely pulled in and didn’t want to put it down. There’s such a quiet strength to the story — a softness wrapped in sorrow, hope, and healing. The author captures the ache of struggle so beautifully that it almost feels like you’re living it right alongside the characters. And yet, through all the pain, there’s this persistent thread of hope that reminds you how resilient the human heart can be.

The character growth was especially moving. Watching each person slowly find their way, stumble, and rise again felt so genuine and heartfelt. Nothing about their transformation felt rushed — it was tender, steady, and filled with emotion. By the end, I found myself both teary and comforted, as if I’d walked through something sacred with them.

Laura Vogt’s writing has a peaceful rhythm to it — the kind that makes you want to slow down and savor every line. It’s one of those rare stories that stays with you long after you’ve closed the book, leaving you quieter, softer, and somehow more hopeful than before. I received this book through Net Galley and all opinions are my own.

Things happen in life that aren’t easy, but everyone has to find that different motivation that helps you continue to live life to the fullest. Morgan and Clara have both been through the most tragic situation. Clara is only 16 years old and is still a high school student when she is slowly figuring out that when your an adult there are still going to be times where you struggle and have hard bumps in the road. As the story goes on Morgan is scared to find out what happened and why Chris has done the decisions he has chose to make. It’s not easy getting a call from the hospital saying your husband and your sister have BOTH died in a car accident. Morgan and Chris have been dating since they were teenagers and one bad move and Morgan found out she was pregnant and she realized that she had rushed getting married to someone that she loved, but her friendship with Jonah was incredibly different and the friendship had some sparks that Morgan was scared to admit her feelings for Jonah. Morgan had her dreams all lined up but she doesn’t want Clara to make the same mistakes, and wants the best for her daughter.

Morgan and Clara have had a hard time communicating with each other after they found out that Chris and Jenny had an affair with each other. Morgan was NEVER the same person she was and she took her anger out on her daughter because Morgan didn’t have anyone that she could talk to while she was struggling through her husband having an affair WITH HER SISTER. Jonah had moved back in with his sister because Jonah and Jenny were not longer together. But Jenny found out she was pregnant and she lied to Jonah saying that it was Jonah’s child when Elijah was Chris’s child in the end. Morgan knows that taking care of a child is not easy by all means. And especially finding out that the baby is not yours and having to take care of it anyway. But will a baby make a relationship stronger? Read the book to find out?!

Clara had struggled with this whole situation for 2 months. She looked up to her father and her Aunt Jenny so much that when the truth was told and Clara had struggled to find out pieces of what happened.... Clara starting making bad decisions and she started dating Miller who everyone thinks is a BAD BOY. You can’t judge someone unless you give them a chance. Well Morgan, and Clara had been wrong about Miller. Miller has had a story of his own as well. Read the book to find out!? Throughout the whole book, Clara is realizing that she truly wants to be with Miller and that he is not who everyone says he is. Miller has helped Clara through this tragic time in her life and Clara can’t begin to thank him for being a man who loves her for who she is. Well what happens when Clara turns 17 years old, and she realizes her relationship with Miller is going somewhere, or when she finally figures everything out about the affair, and that Morgan wasn’t the one having an affair. Clara respects her mom more than anything and now that the Mother and Daughter have sat down to have his conversation that was suppose to happen a long time ago, will the connection fade or get stronger?! Read the book to find out!

I personally didn’t lie how Morgan was lying to her daughter about everything. But on the bright side I do understand that she was trying to protect her daughter from her emotions getting the best of her. I first thought I am going to be honest I hated Morgan for judging people when she had no right to because she made mistakes as well. I hated Clara for the decisions she made, but I think if she would have gotten help from a therapist or something like that, Clara would have not struggled on finding pieces of information by herself. I really was upset with how this whole book was laid out. The relationship between Morgan and Clara was horrible and I found Morgan to be a hypocrite because she is coitizing her daughter for the things she did as a teenager when Morgan was no better. There are some things that happen in the book that will have you upset on so many levels and I feel like a major part of the book that I hated was when Clara was going against all the rules her dad told her after he passed away.

Clara ended up getting in a relationship with Miller Adams who was not the best influence for her. Clara followed in her moms footsteps 100% and she told herself that she would no longer listen to Morgan or Jonah because of the fact that they were so pissed off when they found out that Chris and Jenny were having an affair behind their back, but yet she sees Morgan and Jonah kissing in the kitchen and that ruins everything. Review: This book was such a sweet and cozy read. It took me a little while to really get into the characters, but once I did, I fell in love with both of them. Their story felt so genuine and heartfelt, and I found myself really rooting for them. Caroline Stowe’s writing is beautifully descriptive — she paints such vivid pictures that you can almost feel the chill in the air and see the twinkle of Christmas lights. It’s the kind of story that quietly grows on you and leaves you smiling by the end. Perfect for curling up with a blanket and a cup of cocoa during the holidays. +3

Title: The Grace Writers

Review: This story was absolutely beautiful from start to finish. The Grace Writers captured my heart in the sweetest way. I loved everything about it — the small-town setting, the meaningful friendships, and especially the incredible characters. Claire and Will completely won me over. Watching their growth, their courage, and the way they both learned to open their hearts again was so touching. It felt like I truly knew them.

I adored the sense of community in this story — that feeling of neighbors becoming family, and how even through heartbreak and change, people can come together to love, support, and lift one another up. It made me wish I could pack up and move to that little town myself!

Heather Morse Alexander’s writing was warm and inviting, filled with emotion and wisdom. Every page held a reminder of how short and precious life is, and how important it is to chase the things that matter most — love, purpose, and grace. The story left me smiling, teary-eyed, and full of hope.

If you love heartfelt, uplifting stories about second chances, faith, and community, this is one you won’t want to miss. The Grace Writers is a gentle reminder that it’s never too late to write a new chapter. +7

I always love listening to autobiographies, especially when the author is the one narrating. Her voice and her energy throughout the reading kept me laughing and crying. I cannot believe some of the things she got herself into! The airplane! I would have loved to see the stewardess face when she saw the 2 girls on that plane! It is amazing how little we sometimes know about the people we watch on TV. Many times, we see them in their prime. We don't always see the struggle, or the heartbreak. Losing a parent at such a young age must have really been hard on the whole family. She told her story so well. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I was rather in between about this book. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. I guess I expected a more spooky quality to it. The being partially stuck in the house was interesting. But the way it seemed like the house choose who would come to live there and made it almost sentient was odd yet it was not the house at the same time but they stuck sole? Then after years the sole could be reattached to the other part of the soul. It was interesting and had some really good twists and turns, but I was not exactly blown away. And the husband i did not like him at all. He was for sure all about himself, even when he alluded to how if his wife died in her fall it would have fixed his problems. No one really seemed to like anyone else. Blackmailing your BFFS husband rather then tell her he is a creep. No one in the book was really all that likable. But I did enjoy the spooky feel of the house and it was a good fall spooky season read. I really don't think you were meant to fall in love with any of the characters (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ They were not. Everyone seems to have the pretense of caring for each other, but no one really seemed to! Everyone was really out for themselves and their own bottom line. Even the FMC who did help Sallys spirits or souls reconnect hid so many things from her husband and her best friend. And untimely her “help” likely killed another. Although she could not predict that would happen, it was written that the bad parts were squirreled away in the house and the good part remained “alive”. So after the stories of how Sally was and how she was now, and then the writings she read about what happened previously, one could only assume that the reconnections would not necessarily end well. I know in my review I said I didn’t love or hate this book but the more I sit on it and the more I think of it, I am leaning more to dislike! I mean there was not one person in the book I was rooting for or felt bad for. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I just love Meghan Quinn! There was so much anger and hate in this book then an explosion of chemistry! I am usually not a fan of the 3rd act breakup but I feel like it fit this book. There had to be an issue of some sort. I feel like it was the only way to root out how much Reginald was a mean pot stirring person. He clearly had to set someone up. I feel like so many times the third act break up is just there because it is expected to be so the love interests and find their way back to each other but it really could not be there at all. This one works so well. I felt so bad for Brody! I also loved how rather then the girl being the sobbing almost pathetic mess the guy was. I mean sure Maggie was upset and it showed but It was Brody who drove his friends nuts over how he was feeling. He was not hiding his feelings they were front and center. I really enjoyed their love story! (hide spoiler)]

She could stand her ground and take care of herself, but she wasn’t so hard and strong that she couldn’t let herself be cared for as well and open up to love. But she was cautious at the same time. I just enjoyed watching her be confident enough to go on vacation alone to opening up and allowing Brody to love her when they finally broke down the wall! As much as Maggie was my favorite, I also loved Brody. They were such an unlikely but perfect match! He was for sure the more needy of the 2 (“This is my girlfriend and she loves me.” I mean what guy says that!) But we weren’t needy to the point of being a puh over. He showed his strengths when it mattered and his sensitivity also when it mattered. I just really loved both of them! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Amazing! I loved everything about this book. Probably my top read of the year by far and it has been sitting on my TBR for over a year! I actually listened to it as was suggested by a friend and the voice of the octopus was perfection. Just the right amount of sas with a bit condescending, but it was just right. The relationships that were built out of a lot of pain but developed so beautifully. There were definitely parts that were obvious but I don't feel like it took away from the story. I wanted to see them develop naturally. Other the our octopus friend there was no great push to the conclusion. The relationships were allowed to be form and evolve beautifully. This story made me laugh and crying. I liked everyone there was no one in the book that I didn't feel for. Your rooting for everyone's happy ending after so much pain. It was so beautiful I wish I could go back and experience it all over again. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I feel like you could tell from the start that there was going to be a connection between the 2 main characters. It was set up to align in some way. But even with that the story developed so beautifully. Both the MMC and FMC were very lonely people. They has such devastation and loss in their lives that you could feel from the start that they were going to have some amazing connection. The part I though would be different, and I am so happy I was wrong is I feel in many books like this they always have some loss of trauma at the end. There is someone who dies or some sort of soul crushing end sprinkled with some happiness. However, this book ended with such joy. Clearly you cannot erase past trauma but the comfort of finally having someone to be around and enjoy life with. I really enjoyed all of these characters. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Everly and Hardy! LOVED THEM. It was a little far fetched for sure that they were both so clueless BUT i still loved it. They build such an amazing friendship and i felt that was just as great a story as the love story. This story had me laughing out loud with all the shenanigans that happened. I also really liked how Maple realized that her and Hardy even though the romance was not there that friendship was. It was refreshing not to see someone trying to destroy another relationship. Everyone was looking to help each other and was out to stand by friendship and help rather then take someone down for their own benefit. I think this was one of my favorite books of all time. Not just of the year. It just made me feel good. I can not wait to read about Hudson and then I am going to back track and read about the Cane brothers. Also the random inserts of JP Canes bird obsessions! If he was not already clearly involved with someone I would say sounds like the perfect match for Maple! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I have to say I find myself after so many books and reading for so many years that I tend to think most books are going to follow many of the predictable themes. I was sure Maple and Hardy were going to not connect right away but then when Everly and Hardy finally come together Maple would show some true colors get jealous and try and break them apart only for Hardy to go to Maple and then realize how wrong he was. It happens in SOOOOO many books. It was so refreshing to see how kindhearted everyone really was in this book! It was just a good love story where there was no real sabotage and no jealous rip apart. Their friends, including his ex were all such great people! Like I want to be in their friend circle so bad! There was so much support. I mean sure Hardy messed up! But I mean there has to be some kind of climax and growth for someone, but I feel like it was such a great change to actually have a happy love story. I am glad I was wrong about their story. It was just so much better than I could have thought. (hide spoiler)]
