Book recommendations for an first time reader

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine wants to give reading a try for the very first time. He’s an adult and still exploring what genres might appeal to him. I’m looking for recommendations for short, engaging books that could be a great starting point, something that draws him in quickly without being overwhelming.

For thrillers I’d say Frieda McFadden, for romance Emily Henry, and if you’re feeling fantasy then definitely Mistborn

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a book that has stuck with me ever since I read it. Beautiful, heart-wrenching, wondrous, hilarious and everything in between. A must read.
