Personally, I don't think its valid. Firstly, 'race dysphoria' is not a thing, whereas gender dysphoria is, so being lgbtq+ and rcta isn't comparable. Secondly, the vast majority of rcta people romantasise the race they want to be. For example, a lot of rcta people want to be Korean, Japanese or (less commonly) Chinese. They heavily romanticise these cultures and the people, but have literally no understanding of it. Isn't it weird how they never feel like they are Indian or Thai?
Thirdly, race is biological. Culture, not so much, and yes you can feel more connected to a specific culture, but that isn't the same as literally being that race. You can't change your race.
Imo, its just cultural appropriation. I have seen so many kpop and kdrama fans claim to be rcta (usually american to korean) and tbh that just feels really icky, for lack of a better word.

(devil's advocate!!)

For your comparison between RCTA and LGBTQ+, how do we know race dysphoria isn't real? Gender dysphoria was only known as "real" recently, how do we know race dysphoria hasn't been proven yet?

Couldn't you have understanding of a culture if you just do a bunch of research/live with the people for a while?

Isn't gender biological, yet people are changing that?

for gender, even if you are cis or whatever, you can feel certain amounts of feminine or masculine. for race, you don't "feel" anything. it's just physical traits.

siera 🪷! (xlov’s vers.) | 670 comments how would you even ‘feel’ a certain race? how does a person ‘feel’ white or ‘feel’ chinese. there’s ZERO personality traits assigned to one race/ ethnicity, while there are for gender + different expressions of gender.

most of the rcta people i’ve seen are americans that change their race to korean or japanese. imo this is bc of how romanticized and fetishized east asian cultures are nowadays, especially w the rise of anime and k-pop. it’s literally just creep behavior bc you’re stereotyping and turning these real cultures and countries into ‘cute and aesthetic’ places. someone else’s race is not your aesthetic. someone else’s traditional clothes ar emit your costume. culture and racial identity is something real and important to people, and it’s not something you can ‘become’. you can appreciate another culture without wanting to become someone of that cultures

siera 🪷! (xlov’s vers.) | 670 comments also the whole rcta thing makes me feel so so icky and weird bc why is being asian so ‘cool’ to people now. i was like 5 when i saw all the causal racism at school. being told you eat dogs and should go back to your ow country is NOT fun. being stereotyped as weak and submissive is NOT cute. living in asian countries that prioritize academic success, respect of your elders, and conservative ideals over mental health is NOT aesthetic. go research your own history instead trying to steal mine.
