John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 113 comments The Book of Cold Cases is a blend of psychological thriller, supernatural horror, and true crime obsession seamlessly weaving together the 1970s and present in its exploration of unsolved murders, a ghostly presence, and the trauma that lingers long after the crimes are committed. The story follows Shea Collins, a true crime blogger with an obsessive interest in unsolved cases. By day, she works as a receptionist at a medical office, but by night, she runs a website called The Book of Cold Cases, where she delves into cold cases. Her life takes a thrilling and dangerous turn when she gets the chance to interview Beth Greer—a wealthy, reclusive woman who was acquitted of two brutal murders in 1977. The infamous "Lady Killer" case remains one of Oregon’s most chilling mysteries, and Bethhas never spoken about it publicly until now...with Shea.

The author masterfully crafted an atmospheric and suspenseful narrative that kept me hooked from start to finish. The novel’s dual timeline—jumping between Shea’s present-day investigation and Beth’s tragic past—adds layers of intrigue and emotional depth to the characters and narrative. Shea is a compelling protagonist, shaped by her own past trauma, which explains her true-crime obsession.

What makes me a fan of Simone St. James is that all the works of her that I have read involve historical mysteries with just a touch of the paranormal to keep up at night turning the pages. I would recommend her books for anyone who enjoys atmospheric suspence and ghost stories.
