Hiya mine has arrived this morning. Never participated in one of these before so not really sure what I should be doing lol but really looking forward to trying something new Jackie
Hi all, I never got/saw the post re voting AGAIN! It’s a real pity because I’ve previously read Little Fires Everywhere. I would have voted for His And Hers as I nominated it.
Carole, if you're on the app, check the messages under the little bell top right. If you're on the desktop/Web version, check under the bell and the envelope top right. Good luck!
I've just stated 'Little Fires Everywhere', I'm only a few chapters in, but so far, so good. I'm already intrigued as to why Izzy set fire to the house - no spoilers, it's in the first chapter. It's an easy read, and the writing flows smoothly. Ok, so let's see what is going on...
I’m on chapter 14! What a beautifully written book. This is how I imagine life is in a small American suburban city haha
I just googled, and Shaker Heights is a real suburb of Cleveland. The houses are large and traditional, and they certainly look 'upscale,' as our American cousins would say. It's pretty close to what I have been imagining.
Thanks Liz. I’m just finishing my current book but looking forward to starting this one. I’d been struggling to decide what to read next!
I read chapter 1 last night and I’m also intrigued as to why Izzy has started the fire but also at the families lack of surprise. Feels like it will be interesting!
This was an enjoyable read. The story is well structured, everything is in order, plot, character and reason, though to my mind the prose could handle a great deal more pressure to lift it above others in this genre. The pages turn easily and there is that delightful need to keep reading and get back to reading when life interferes. A good suggestion for the group.
Just finished, loved this book not my normal read so was interested to see how I got on. Really well written and a good page turner. I loved Mia and pearl but developed a soft spot for Izzy along the way.
I'm about halfway through and still enjoying it. I wonder why the secrecy around the photo of Mia in the art gallery...?
I thought it was crazy she saw her picture at the museum! I also thought as Mia and Pearl were so close, Mia would have been open about it instead of being secretive
I’m really enjoying this. It’s been a nice break from crime novels. My youngest son has been going through a sleep regression which is slowing my reading a little at night. Hoping to finish in the next week or so.

Good luck with the sleep, Russ. It's so tough.

There may be SPOILERS AHEAD!
I finished the book a couple of days ago and have been mulling over how I felt about the resolution/ending....
I had been wondering how each character would respond once Mia's secret was revealed and each was true to form. Also the mix up over Lexie's a***tion was definitely on the cards, and therefore not surprising. However the leaving of the photographs was unexpected, but did it point too obviously to what the author wanted to say about the Richardson's? I still can't decide.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and characters, and gave the book a rounded up 4 stars.

I suppose the longer you leave it, the harder it becomes to talk about...
Izzy, sees in Mia, what is missing in her own family. Yet Pearl doesn't really appreciate her mother, until the end, when the selfishness and shallowness of the Richardsons has been exposed.

Yes, so true, I agree.
I feel like growing up I thought my friends parents were 'cooler' compared to my own.
Also, I wasnt really happy about the ending! I wish it was clearer and not so open to interpretation.
So true, I am currently reading another book where the MC is also embarassed/ashamed of his family. The grass is always greener...
Just lost quite a long review because I flipped back to check something. Grrr why can’t you save a draft?! Anyway good book - 4 stars (not 5 as beginning was a bit slow and conversely ending was abrupt). Looking forward to Invisible Girl…
Finally finished the book! For a genre I never really read I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like others have said I found the ending very abrupt and it felt like it came out of nowhere.
I really enjoyed the development of characters in the book though and the fact that all characters had their positives and negatives. My only gripe was that Izzy felt like a character on the sidelines somewhat, particularly at the end. I’d have liked to have had her be a bigger part of the story or more development of her at the end.
Over all a great read though.

I've had that happen to me too, Sue. Very frustrating!

Missed out of this group read but saw a copy for £1 at my local hospital bookshop today so bought it. I will give it a go soon as everyone seemed to like it!

The group read for February will be Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I actually have a copy of this one in my sitting room, so I will finally get to read it. I hope it's good....
