Book recommendations with Joss Whedon writing style

So this year I'm venturing the book world and I would like some recommendations. My favourite genres would be fantasy, suspense and thriller along with a good writing style.

That said, I have something in mind.
If you saw and loved the TV Series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and or Angel, you know that Joss Whedon writing is godlike (at least to me) but he's work is based on BD's and I would like a actual book or book series, so what I'm asking is if you know of some book or book series or author with some similarity with Joss Whedon's work.
