Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10029 comments The Winds from Further West The Winds from Further West by Alexander McCall Smith by Alexander McCall Smith

University lecturer Dr. Neil Anderson crosses horns with the department director, and interesting consequences follow.

(The book has lovely scenes on the island of Mull.)

Smith's books always set up thought-provoking situations. 3.5 stars

Araych | 686 comments Esperance Esperance by Adam Oyebanji by Adam Oyebanji

A father and his young son are found drowned (in sea water) in their 20th floor condo in Chicago. And a tall Black woman appears in Bristol, England claiming to be Nigerian but who has some amazing abilities. This book is an absolutely fascinating mystery / sci-fi combination -- totally unique, amazing, fascinating. I loved it. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

In this third book in the 'Sean Stranahan' series, the Montana painter/private detective helps search for a missing woman. As usual, Sean investigates in between time spent fly-fishing.

The story wanders around a bit. 3 stars

In this early book in the Dismas Hardy series, the former prosecutor fears a convict on parole is coming to kill him. It gets more complicated from there.

This book is a good introduction to the characters in the series. 3.5 stars

Eric Magun | 3 comments Hi Everyone!

I'm Eric Magun, an award-winning filmmaker and now novelist. I’m excited to invite you to step inside the Sinners Club—my multi-award-winning debut novel Thank God for the Sinners that just hit the shelves in August. Dark, gritty, and unapologetically raw, this psychological thriller drags you headfirst into the wild, unforgettable ride following outcast Rick Price as he explores memory, childhood scars, trauma, adventures through China and more. Early readers have called it 'Tarantino meets Bukowski on a Bourdain odyssey.'

As this is my life’s work, I would be thrilled to know all your thoughts, opinions and feedback on here, also through a Goodreads review, or even an amazon review. As a new author, this is incredibly valuable to me and I would be happy to return the favor to anyone else in the community. Hope to find new ‘sinners’ in here. Buckle up and enjoy the chaos!

Araych | 686 comments The Girl Who Ran Off with Daddy The Girl Who Ran Off with Daddy (Stewart Hoag, #7) by David Handler by David Handler

Stewart "Hoagy" Hoag #7. I like the series but this is the weakest entry so far. 138 pages until somebody gets killed! The plot is OK but the characters are weak and not believable. No better than OK -- 2 stars.
