I gave 5 stars to this author's previous book, Migrations, and was impressed by how the physical and emotional health of the main character mirrored that of the environment around her and its creatures. This book does the same thing. The heroine is an expert in wolves, working with a team to reintroduce them to a wild part of Scotland. But I felt there were too many extraneous elements relating to her childhood, her twin sister, her own unusual ability to sense the physical pain of others. Parts of the book were quite dark. So I thought it would be a 3-star book, but by the end I raised it to 4. There is a very strong sense of place, and the wolves themselves are characters in the book.
