Tatjana Miloradovic | 4 comments Hello,

My middle grade novel Dunja's Magic has gone through many rounds of revisions (including the revisions suggested by my critique partner), but before reaching out to literary agents, I'd like to get some feedback from a beta reader as well. I'd be open to having just the first seven chapters of my novel (Act 1—approx. 9K words) reviewed, or it could be the entire novel.

Here is the blurb for the book:

At eleven, still with all the blind trust of childhood, Dunja believed her father when he kept telling her the same things he'd told her all her life: that magic was the only thing that made life worth living; that once you saw real magic, like he did—a magician pull a rabbit out of an empty top hat—you could never forget it; and that you couldn't live a life without believing in magic. When her often-absent father disappears completely one day, Dunja knows it's up to her to bring him back and restore the integrity of her and Mama's shattered lives.

Lorenzo, a surly and impulsive homeless man who moves into the tunnel under 95, offers Dunja glimmers of hope. In his homeless encampment, he happens to have things such as a top hat and a rabbit that have Dunja convinced he could teach her how to do the top-hat-and-a-rabbit-magic, which, Dunja believes, will lead her to learning enough magic to bring her disappeared father back. But working with Lorenzo brings nothing but challenges that Dunja's friends try to mitigate—her pretty friend who can't stop drawing butterflies; the wild-eyed one who Dunja wishes were her little sister; the boy who plays the guitar and sings mountains; and the fairy-tale store owner whose store has everything there is in the world. With her group of friends by her side, Dunja learns about much more than magic: friendship, forgiveness, acceptance, and finding meaning in the life around her.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tatjana,

If you are still looking for beta readers please feel free to reach out. I have worked with several middle grade novels. Children and their belief in magic is one of my favourite aspects of middle grade books, whether there is actual magic or just the idea that it has to exist in it.

I have some available openings at the end of June currently.

Please check out my website for more information about me, my services, and testimonials. Proofreading And Editing | E. Gray Editing (egrayediting.com)

I hope to hear from you soon.
