Book: A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness A Discovery of Witches
Pages: 594
How it qualifies: Main page setting states New York
Read: 9 April
Rating: 4.5⭐️
Review: I have wanted to read this book/series for a while. My work have a physical copy in our kitchen bookcase and I feel as if it has been looking at me saying read me. When I saw it would fit this weeks theme I picked it up and I’ve been happily reading it the last few days and getting absorbed in the magic, history and science that are threaded through the pages.
It was a long book, it probably could do with some parts being edited out but there was nothing, in my opinion, that detracted from the storyline.

I have the trilogy and I think I’m just going to dive into book 2 to see what happens.

How to Solve Your Own Murder (Castle Knoll Files, #1) by Kristen Perrin
My Choice: How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin 🎧
Pages: 368
How it Fits: MP setting London, England
Date Read: 4/08
Rating: ★★★
Review: There were a lot of characters to keep track of. Plus they were all related to at least one other character so you had to keep track of who they were as individuals and who they were related to. I am not very good at that. Because of that when the whodunit was revealed I had to remind myself who that character was. It ruined the shock factor. Plus the story included one of my mystery genre pet peeves. Using (view spoiler) as a plot twist 🙄

Despite all of that I still enjoyed it enough to rate it 3 strong stars.

I listened to the audiobook on Spotify and the narrators (Alexandra Dowling & Jaye Jacobs) did a fantastic job.

Option 1
11. Mainland Europe
Read a book set in mainland Europe (aka Continental Europe)
Mainland Europe does not include the UK. Please ask if you aren't sure.

For all the location/setting tasks, the book does not have to be solely set in that location; it simply needs at least one scene set there. The usual precise, main page, tag or list will need to be provided to show how the book qualifies.

If you aren't sure how to insert links in your posts, please read these instructions in the Q&A thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Option 2
Key date: 6 October 2023
Team mate read on or after this date and rated at least 3 stars

Option 3

A selection post must be made for whichever option you choose - INCLUDING A PASS
Refer msg 3 in your team thread for formatting of all 3 options.

So countries like France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, The Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece etc. (Just pulling these from the top of my head - the list is much longer.). Technically the Greek islands aren't in it, but for our purposes we'll leave them there.

Thanks Hazel :). Yes - its confusing, but I was just going all everything on the big landmass for simplicity since not everyone will check the details on definitions. Not that Wiki seemed to say that Rep of Ireland WAS in mainland EU, hence my full exclusion :)

Idk what she puts in her books but they're like crack for me.

This authors books aren’t the greatest stories I’ve ever read. But they’re comforting. And best of all. I don’t have to worry about the surprise pregnancy trope which drove me from MF romances in the first place.

I loved the buildup of the relationship and romance between Grace and Claudio, how it started slow and simmering, took a while to get going, and eventually exploded. And yay for no ridiculous third-act breakup.

I sprained my thumb at the weekend - my husband jammed it in a door - accidentally (I think) while we were moving furniture. It’s sore to bend, grip or lift and writing is hard. On GR I use my phone to do everything which can be tricky enough but having to change how I hold my phone and what fingers I use to type is tiring. I’ll update more later.

Review: I gave this book 3⭐️ because at the beginning it genuinely made me laugh out loud. I got it on KU with audio available as well and I was laughing while walking the dog. 2 American girls travel to Scotland to run a coffee shop for 6 months and try to find themselves. They mention the famous Boaby Stone (I’ve never heard of this and I’m Scottish) which is a castration stone and I had to Google it. There are some great humorous moments, some steamy sections and some tearful bits but I felt the more serious moments were rushed.

I had a few issues with this book 1)The males all seem to wear kilts everyday 2)The male narrator i really don’t think is Scottish he makes Mel Gibson’s Scottish accent in Braveheart sound great 3)Scottish people don’t use the word diaper so the author/editor should have done better research but 4) This is the worst but no one I know in Scotland has ever put jam on a tattie scone? The Scottish guy serves tattie scones with jam and butter. Later he talks about them being made with potatoes but still says they’re the best with jam on them. I did a Facebook poll of all my friends and they are all horrified at the thought of this.

Review: All the LOVE and all the STARS!!!!!

(Edited to add AUDIOBOOK: The narration made this book far less engaging, enjoyable, and funny than reading it. Cornell Collins brought too much propriety and took away the lightness I felt whilst reading. My suggestion: skip the audio.)

Original review:
What a wickedly, salacious country romp in Recency England!!! KJ Charles latest recency romance is pure heart and comedy!! 💓💓💓

I think I fell in love with every single crazy character Charles created!!

Guy and Philip, our two MCs make a delicious pair together. Philip, a libertine of the worst sort and a family enemy, to boot, has set his sights on the virginal Guy. His plans to debauch the young man go astray as he finds himself caring for Guy.

Guy, brought by circumstance of his sister's near fatal accident to the home of Sir Phillip, soon realized that his host is not as scandalous as rumours have made him out to be. He also realizes that he very much likes being debauched by Philip whilst his sister convalesces in his drawing room.

The DEBAUCHING of Guy is a joy to read and see!!! This has to be one of my favorite debauching books EVER!!! Why? Because it took more than one scene to debauch our young hero. Because he loved every second of it. Because he threw himself into learning with such gusto. Because Guy is one of the dearest characters I have ever encountered!

Ok, ill stop rhapsodizing about the DEBAUCHING of GUY and move on. The rest of the story was simply lovely!! 💓💓 We meet the notorious Murder hellfire club and it's wonderful members--all notorious in their own way, yet all .....you know what? I'll leave the mystery to what they are to the book...it's just more fun without spoilers!!

I so so so so so so HOPE there is another book in the making. This cast of characters cannot disappear! I need more of my notorious rake, Corvin and more of the irascible artist, John. And then there's a part of me that want to see all four in bed together at the same time. It's a hellfire club, after all and isn't orgies what they do?!

Read this book, you'll love it!! There are a lot of characters I introduced at the beginning, but hold out because you'll soon keep them straight (ha ha) in your head!

Ahhh, now I want to read it again and take my time to savor the humor and the LOVE!!! Thanks the gods for this book that catapulted me out of a major book slump!!🙌🙌

Super highly recommended with fireworks and laughs!!
