Nick runs into a former lover named Patrice at the fundraiser who insinuates herself into a conversation with him and Sam. What was the point of including her in the story? Did their “relationship” provide any context or reveal anything more about Nick?

She didn't bring anything to the story except to say that Nick has a past with a lot of women. It was useless in my opinion.

I had wondered about Nick after he and Sam failed to connect after their torrid one-night stand. Sam assumed he had had other women and so did we. Now we know for sure, and this one was pretty proud of their liaison.

[Lauren]

Nick and Sam adore one another. There was no need for this and it added nothing. Did Force think she needed to balance out Hill's attraction to Sam?

It went nowhere and all it did was get Nick to reveal he was pretty indiscriminate after Sam’s “rejection.” This should have been edited out.
