A couple of things to keep in mind:
✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Wednesday/Saturday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Thursday/Sunday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain period of time, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the time period in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role for every roll, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Hi Team! I’m here and looking forward to this. I did it once before. I’m happy to do anything to help except I DON’T want to be the one that rolls the dice, if that’s ok. My name is Patti and I live in Florida, USA. One of my goals this year is to finish some of the million series I’ve started 🤪. So I’m hoping this challenge helps!
Checking in! This is my first time playing so I'm still figuring out things as I go along. My name is Allie and I live in North Carolina. Fun fact: Today is my birthday! I love finding series challenges like this one because I'm so bad at starting a series and never going back to finish so these challenges keep me motivated to do just that.
Hi team. Checking in. I have done the easy version of this with one book before, but not this... I look forward to it. My name is Ira and I live in Norway. I hope to read a lot of books from my bookself. A lot of them are series...

Hi guys. Since neither of you have played before I’ll do the first couple of rolls but after that maybe someone else can do it. I really really don’t want to do it. Lol. 🤪🤪
I don't have a problem rolling the dice, I just don't know how to do the rest.(collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.)

Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay
Read 2/16
Qualification: 3rd in Dexter series
Rating: 4.5 ⭐️
Review:
4.5 stars. This was my favorite book in this series so far. Dexter has lost his Dark Passenger and Astrid & Cody are getting creepier by the minute! This was far less about blood and gore and more about character development, which I love. Dexter is one of my favorite characters and keeping it about him is always a good bet!

Author: Richard Osman
Qualification: #3 in the Thursday Murder Club Series

Rating: 4 stars
Review: I think every book of this series is an improvment of the last one. What draws me in every time is the characters. I love the main four characters, but I also realy like the supporting characters. They all have very interesting personalities, quirks and backgrounds. In this one they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was never found. I thought the pacing and the action in this one was very good, and so was the character development. The mystery was engaging and kept my interest to the last page. I would recomend this book to others. I realy enjoyed it

Week 1/ Roll 1 Spot 3
Qualification: #3 in the Black Bear Clan series
Read: 2/18
Rating: 5🌟
Review: Her Orc Warrior is book 3 in the Black Bear Clan series. This is the first book that I have read from this series which is unusual for me because I usually don't start in the middle of a series. I always feel obligated to start with the first book but I am happy with my decision of switching things up and diving into this one instead. These books are all standalone so even though it's the third book in the series I didn't feel that I was lost or missing out on anything. Characters from previous books do make an appearance but you won't be lost if you haven't read the other books. This book follows Hazel and Vark. This book starts with Hazel and her daughter, Wren, sneaking into the back of this wagon because Hazel is trying to escape. She realizes that the life that she leads is not cut out for her four-year-old daughter and she wants to leave to make a better living for herself and her daughter. The driver of the wagon is Vark, he finds out that they are hiding in the back of his wagon and it all begins from there.
I loved Vark and how protective he was over Wren and Hazel. I loved seeing Vark taking Wren under his wing and treating her as if she were his child. All of the other orcs in the clan loved Wren and were always there for her and I viewed them as her uncles. Whenever Hazel and Vark would argue in the beginning, instead of letting her walk away mad he would try to understand where she is coming from and talk things out with her. I love seeing that in my romance books instead of the miscommunication trope. There was no third act break up which I adore the author for. I'm such a sucker for the found family trope and this book delivered!
The only issues that I had with this story is that I wish Hazel and Vark would have spent more time getting to know each other before their relationship developed into something more intimate. Their relationship did move on the faster-paced side of things which would usually bother me if it was any other type of relationship but it didn't in this one because Hazel and Vark were fated mates. Fated mates tend to be the only situation where I will accept the relationship as being fast-paced. I loved Vark as a character but I was hoping that I would have found out more about him and his backstory in this book. Maybe his backstory has already been discussed in one of the other books in the series and the author didn't feel like mentioning it again. In the beginning, I felt that Vark was trying to get to know more things about her and understand her better but Hazel wasn't returning the same energy until towards the middle part of the book. In Hazel's inner monologue, she would keep talking about how she is scared of him but then when he asks her about it she keeps lying to him and saying that she's not but he could scent her fear so he knew that she was lying. Even though I did have some issues with the story, I looked past it because I was having such a fun time with the characters and I loved reading about Hazel and Vark's love story.
I read this book in two sittings and it was such a quick and fun ride! I'm so happy that I decided to kick off the series with this one. I will be continuing with this series because I loved the introduction to the other characters that I got in this story. Korr's book is next and I can't wait to read it! Korr gives me quiet and mysterious vibes so I can't wait to find out more about him. I also wonder if the author is planning on giving Wren a book when she is older because from things that we find out about her in this one, I'm even more curious about her. I love her as a character and I would love to see who she gets matched up with in the future.
If you love these tropes, you will love this book:
💫Orc Romance
💫Single Mother
💫Protective Hero
💫Found Family

Review:
I like this series. It’s pretty easy to read out of order, but probably not the best idea. Ellison Russell is a fun MC who is constantly getting herself into trouble. She should definitely stay away from psychics and should stick around Anarchy, whom I think is a great guy. This was a fun installment to the series. Mr. Coffee gets on my nerves sometimes….

Book: Ruddy Gore
Author: Kerry Greenwood
Qualification: #7 in the Phryne Fisher Series
Read: 22/2/24
Rating: 3 stars
Review:
In my opinion this book was very entertaining. In this one Phryne Fisher is investigating a poisoning happening at a theatre. We get to see the behind the scenes and the drama of a theatre production. The main characters of the series are very interesting and the mystery engaging. All in all it met my expectations without being mindblowing. Getting back to this series is very familiar and comforting.
Hey Allie! Just wondering if you’re going to be able to finish your book. I’m going to bed in about an hour, so if you finish by the deadline — maybe you can roll? If you don’t finish we will need to sit out for the next roll. I’ll check back before I head to bed. My back has been acting up and I plan to being lying flat soon. ;)
Unfortunately Allie missed the deadline, so you'll have to wait until Sunday for your next roll. :(
I messed up and thought I had longer for the deadline. I thought it was 3am eastern time and not 1am eastern time. I was on track to finish in time and then life got in the way as it tends to do sometimes.
Hey Allie — I think you still have to post a completion for your book so that we can go onto the next roll on Sunday— but I’m honestly not sure 🤷🏼♀️. I haven’t played this for a while.

If you're sitting out a roll, it's not strictly necessary to post the missing review afterwards. You absolutely can, though. :)

Review: The Lineup is the third book in the Brentwood Boys series. This is my first book by Meghan Quinn and I am a little disappointed that I didn't love it as much as I know most people love her books and this series. I felt that this book took me forever to read and I found myself always going to do other things instead of continuing reading. The Lineup follows Jason and Dottie. Jason is a famous baseball player who just got traded to the Rebels and he has created a charity called The Lineup. Dottie is very successful in her career and after going through a recent breakup, she is putting her all in her career and doesn't really prioritize much else. This all changes when her assistant makes an accidental donation to Jason's charity, the Lineup. Jason is hosting an event for his charity where whoever donates the largest amount of money to his charity will win a date with him. Dottie had a secret crush on Jason when they were in college together but she hasn't seen or spoken to him since, so when she finds out that she won a date with him, this doesn't go over well with Dottie.
The main issues that I had with this story were that it never captivated my interest at any point and I found it hard to root for any of the main characters. I thought the side characters were hilarious and I loved them but I did not like either of the main characters. I'm glad that we got to see Dottie's character development towards the end of this book and she realized how her actions have affected the people around her and how even though she is successful in her career, it is having a negative influence on her life. It was hard for me to root for Dottie as a character because of how she treated the people around her. I felt that because she was successful in her career and knew all of the right people, she looked down on the people around her and would put them down. I wasn't sure how to feel about Jason at first because there were some scenes where he really showed his soft and sweet side with Dottie and I loved that but there were other instances where he gave me the ick. I felt that there was no real depth to Dottie and Jason's relationship even though we are told that they have this strong connection. I also felt that they didn't really know each other long enough to have as strong of a connection that the other couples in their friend group had. Out of all of the conversations that Dottie and Jason had, I feel like the majority, if not all of the conversations were sexual in some way and they never really had any in depth conversations with each other or tried to get to know each other better. Meghan Quinn is known for her humor in her stories but the humor in this one was not working for me because it was mostly sexual jokes aimed at Dottie. What also didn't work for me in this book was that I felt that this book was trying to do too much once and trying to include as many tropes as possible and it just wasn't working. This couple starts out as enemies to lovers but then somehow the author tries to make them friends to lovers and there were other tropes added in as well in the subplots and it was all confusing and I thought that the book was trying to do too much. My goal with reading this book was being able to join the Meghan Quinn hype train but after reading this, I'm convinced that her stories are not for me.

Review:
There was a lot of really good stuff in the book and I liked the storyline. But for some reason it just got boring for me in the middle. I did like the Sawyer character and enjoyed the amnesia — who is she, really? — aspect of the storyline. I gave it 3 stars only because I kept putting it down and coming back; it took me longer to read this than I thought.
