I've got my name on the massive library waiting list for V.E. Schwab's latest, The Fragile Threads of Power. So excited for this one, I'm hoping everyone in front of me reads it quickly!
I was considering that one too, Marie, but I realized I hadn't read the trilogy that is sort of set in the same world as Fragile Threads (at least I think that's how they are connected) so I may do that instead!
This is a chance to read Marianne Thornton: A domestic biography, 1797-1887 by E. M. Forster which is on my shelves.
I was trying to fit in The A List by J.A. Jance for a book set in Sedona, so I was very pleased when this prompt was successful!I'm also reading We Were Liars by E. Lockhart from my TBR list.
Options on my list of potential reads for 2024. I have quite a few!S.A. Barnes
M.R. Carey
C.L. Clark
C.J. Cooke
C.S.E. Cooney
S.A. Cosby
N.K. Jemisin
A.K. Larkwood
J.P. Pomare
M.L. Rio
V.E. Schwab

I would guess Fragile Threads is written in way that you could start there, but there will be spoilers for the earlier story, and those books are fantastic.
I'm working my way through T. Kingfisher's books so probably one of hers. I am likely to have read The Fragile Threads of Power before 2024!
Some of my faves have already been mentioned (N.K. Jemisin, T. Kingfisher), but for fans of their work, I can also recommend C.L. Polk's The Midnight Bargain or A.J. Hackworth's The Library of the Unwritten. Also a place where the Anne of Green Gables devotees could fit one in!
So many choices and just from my shelves! I want to try to pick a book I own for this prompt.T.A. Barron - The Heartlight Saga (Contains 3 books so I would probably split it into 3 prompts)
J.G. Farrell - Troubles
J.M. Coetzee - Waiting for the Barbarians, Elizabeth Costello
J.M. Barrie - Peter Pan
Edward O. Wilson - Anthill (On the cover, his name is E.O. Wilson)
N.K. Jemisin - The City We Became
Full disclosure: I did not like this category, and I decided i was going to replace it with "a book related to mushrooms" ... and somewhat ironically I ended up with What Moves the Dead by T. KingfisherBack up choice would be S.A. Cosby because it's looking like I might not have time to read his latest book, All the Sinners Bleed, this year.
My top choice for this prompt is Quantum Radio by A.G. Riddle. If that doesn't pan out, I'll mostly likely read one of these:
1) The Obelisk Gate (#2 in the N.K. Jemisin series The Broken Earth)
2) The Red House Mystery (the only mystery written by A.A. Milne — and if I remember correctly, his only book not for kids.)
3) The Ventriloquists by E.R. Ramzipoor
Quite a few options for this one:- The End of Alice by A.M. Homes
- I Stop Somewhere by T.E. Carter
- The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- Where Angels Fear to Tread by E.M. Forster
- Carry Me Down by M.J. Hyland
- Paradise by A.L. Kennedy
- SKIN by E.M. Reapy
Gosh I have a LOT to help me complete this one:J.P. Delaney
C.L. Taylor
A.M. Homes
C.J. Tudor
M.R. Carey
T.M. Logan
M.J. Arlidge
George R.R. Martin
B.A. Paris
T.J. Newman
I'm planning to read Babel for this prompt. I tried reading it this past year but was discouraged because it was dense and had a magic subplot. I think I made a mistake by not finishing it because I have seen many rave reviews about it and some of my favourite Booktubers have vlogged about it. I'm looking forward to trying it again. Hopefully I can finish!
I'm also going to read Babel (R. F. Kuang) although I honestly wasn't a fan of Yellowface which also got rave reviews. They are very different topics however and since I own this book...
I read Winnie-The-Pooh by A.A. Miline which was the refreshing and comforting return to childhood I needed right now.
For this prompt, I read:The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #3) by C.S. Lewis - 4* My Review
Of the books I own that I thought about reading, I read none of them and instead went with Yellowface by R. F. Kuang.
Denise wrote: "I'm also going to read Babel (R. F. Kuang) although I honestly wasn't a fan of Yellowface which also got rave reviews. They are very different topics however and since I own this book..."I read them both and I thought Babel was much much better.
I immediately went for a P.G. Wodehouse book - you don't have to ask me twice.I ended up with The Mating Season because it was the next in the Jeeves and Wooster series, that I had not yet read.
I read and recommend K.L. Slater. She writes thrillers. I have read nine of them, and I have loved every one. You just never quite know what is going on, who the bad guy is, if there is only one bad guy, and if the good guy will win in the in. I love a book that keeps me guessing! For this prompt I read The Girlfriend.
I read Good Girls Lie, I love a academic setting and was in the mood for a thriller so was excited for this but it find of fell flat. I would recommend:
All the Sinners Bleed
Infinity Gate
Yellowface
I read:
, The Chinese Puzzle, J.C. BriggsBIO: A book by an author who has one (or more) of the four least used letters in the English alphabet as their initials (JQZX)
REJECT: A fiction book with a real person as a character (Charles Dickens)
Finished: 04/05/2024
Rating: 4 stars
Another of my suggestions. Number 8 in a great historical mystery series.
I'm Halfway!
Was able to fill in a gap in the list of T.C. Boyle books and read
. Went straight onto my list of favorites.
I reread a favorite of mine by S. E. Hinton, That Was Then, This is Now. Loved it in 8th grade English class, but at my middle-age now, really picked up on the nuances in it. It was raw, real, and the ending was very depressing. However, I liked it much more this time around.
✔ – 13Apr24Yours Cheerfully – A.J. Pearce – 4****
This is book two about Emmeline Lake, a young woman who was introduced to readers in Pearce’s Dear Mrs Bird . I was completely charmed by Emmy in the first book and really like to see her continued growth as a woman and journalist. As Emmy meets the women on the line in a munitions factory she begins to identify the societal and industrial prejudices that women are suffering, and then to advocate for solutions.

As I'm trying to read a book set in each of the 25 cities on the #5 list, I was so pleased to find a book set in Sedona that fitted a prompt: Edge Of Evil by J.A. Jance. So, it feels a bit churlish to criticise, but in addition to the problem of not thinking the MC is as marvellous as the author does, if the MC is going to decide something is murder, it shouldn't be on the basis of a mistake which everyone on the suspect list should have known to avoid. On the plus side, I now know something about Sedona.I also read All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby, which was excellent, and, while the story line was grim, it was les violent than the author's other books.

the book I chose for this prompt
short and sweet reviews: 5.0
I'm at a loss for where to begin; I'm already considering re-reading it, despite having just turned the last page. I'm eager to uncover any details or nuances that might have escaped me on the first go. Addie's ingenuity in making her presence felt in the world is truly remarkable. It's easily one of my favorite books.
My hair stood on end as I read The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois. The phrase "same as it ever was" comes to mind, after reading this outstanding influential, yet gut-wrenchingly sad, treatise on the plight of Black people in America. Some fools would like to deny this history ever existed, but it's imperative that everyone know the shameful truth. Highly recommended.
