I found it, i managed to remember my kindle information. turns out i was dead on with the title. without the authors name google will only show you other books with the same title. The book is Soulhunters (chronicles of the creator #1) by Colin WR Chadwick published in 2011. time to read it and see how close my description was
from what i remember the mc (at least i think he was the mc) was some sort of indentured servant or slave to some kind of troll or giant and he was forced to be a gladiator (at some point having to fight a group of men and a giant scorpion) and he is well favoured by his giant because he brings in alot of money until one day his friend who belongs to another giant is killed senselessly and to my knowledge the giants ate humans and forced people to butcher the dead humans (this part im not 100% about) but i don't remember what happens next
in another part of the book it follows twins or some sort of siblings who are trying to be mage apprentices and their parents like payed the mage to take them but one of them is forced to clean the stables and never gets to practice magic.
i also believe theres a part of the book where a castle or stronghold of people are "reaped" i believe but like basically they are murdered and their souls get stolen
other details i remember is that the book uses something along the lines of x day of x harvest or some combo like that ive always had the impression the book was called soul hunters but i cant seem to find a book that matches that description with that name
one last detail i think i remember that is extremely specific is that there is a part of the book there is a magical dog and it has magic vision and can see alot and if you look into its eyes the you can see the reflection of the world that it sees
sorry for the rambling but i really would love to read this book again
