For our next month of 2023 group reads - May - we have chosen two books each with the theme - Mother's Day - female authors - therefore members will have four to choose from when you vote in the poll. (Once again, all Aussie authors)

Our choices are:

When the Light Goes Out by Lisa Myers When the Light Goes Out by Lisa Myers

As the expert in mental health, psychiatrist Dr Lisa Myers has always been expected to have the answers to help her traumatised clients. However, her professional knowledge and tools did not fully prepare her for when her life was upended by an act of unimaginable violence, which plunged her into a spiral of grief and trauma-management.

Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic

Peregrine Fisher is unexpectedly summoned to a meeting of the Adventuresses' Club of the Antipodes, where she learns some incredible news.

When Adventuress Florence Astor is accused of murder, Peregrine jumps at the chance to help on the case. Detective James Steed, initially dismissive, quickly finds Peregrine's flair for investigating and headstrong nature leave him little choice.

Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief by Katrina Nannestad Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief by Katrina Nannestad

Wood splinters and Mama screams and the nearest soldier seizes her roughly by the arms. My sister pokes her bruised face out from beneath the table and shouts, 'Run, Sasha! Run!'

So I run. I run like a rabbit.

It's spring, 1942. The sky is blue, the air is warm and sweet with the scent of flowers.

And then everything is gone.

The Foster Family by Nicole Trope The Foster Family by Nicole Trope

In their holiday home, a stone’s throw from the beach, Elizabeth dials the police with trembling hands. ‘My little boy, he’s missing.’

Elizabeth is Joe’s foster mother, but she loves him like her own. The five-year-old, who adores superheroes and watching the birds outside, is the child she has dreamed of. As she looks into the garden, where he was playing just moments ago, her heart feels like it has been ripped from her chest.
