Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments HI & Welcome Team Chanel!! I LOVE the team names!! This seems like it will be such a fun challenge.

I'm so exited to be reading with you all! I love everything about readathons, the planning and chatting and spreadsheeeting!

If anyone needs help with spreadsheet just give a shout here and JennH (HI Jenn - yay!!!) or I will be happy to help out.

Please (if you like) introduce yourself and tell us what your reading goals or or what your up to this weekend?!

I'm off to the spreadsheet to start plotting my first book.
GO TEAM CHANEL!

Jen K | 572 comments Hey team, excited to be back for another readathon.

I'm in the midst of a family visit so the reading will be a bit slow this weekend but looking forward to some good reads this week based on the prompts.

message 4: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments Hi Team Chanel! So excited, this will be my first time being team captain! I will do my best to help, support and cheer you on. I'm not a spreadsheet whiz like Sheena is, but I will do my best. Hope I do you all justice!

I love seeing all the familiar names! Excited to be reading with you all. Looking forward to another fun readathon!

Go Team Chanel!

Sherri Harris | 1503 comments Hi Everyone, I'm very excited to be on Team Chanel with so many people I know from past read-a-thons. I'll head over to the spreadsheet & plan my reads.

message 6: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Good evening, Team Chanel! Looking forward to this week and reading and discussing with you-all. I have my books listed in a Word doc, but it's late and I'm tired, so calling it quits for tonight! Though I'll probably add the books I'm currently reading to the spreadsheet...because...I tend to be a bit obsessive about readathons!! :)

message 7: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments Morning Team, and we're off ...

So great to see everyone back again!!

I woke up early and have a been reading for a bit already. I get a bit obsessive too Lynn :D

SPREADSHEET UPDATE - Looking great. you are all pros at this!
It's still early, and we have lots of members still to join us but so far three prompts are missing fills.

Shirt: A book set in an office workspace
Fancy Socks: A book with a pattern on the cover
High Heels: A book that features a holiday

So far I've just planned my first few books so I'll have a look through my TBR to see what I can find.
Happy Reading team Chanel

message 8: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 47 comments Good Morning Team Chanel!

Happy to be reading with you all this week. It’s only my second time participating in the group challenge so hello to everyone new to me!

I love the concept of this read-a-thon but of course feel like the books I’ve planned don’t really fit anywhere but the gimme prompts. Maybe our closet doesn’t end up with a lot of business clothes? Most of mine have been collecting dust for three years now anyway…

message 9: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1503 comments Good Morning Team Chanel, I have two books in progress & one TBR. After I finish these I will see what is needed. I'm listening to Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
It works for pants & ties under business. The only problem is the book is very long. I have 38 hours left. I may not finish this but if I do it will be later in the week. If anyone has books to fill these prompts go ahead. All three of these books have a black, white, & gray only cover. Happy reading everyone.

message 10: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments Good Morning, Team Chanel!! Happy Readathon Kickoff Day!

I was trying to finish a couple of books last night so that I could start afresh for the readathon. So by the time I checked the spreadsheet last night, to my delight, there were so many possible prompts already filled in. Yay, team! That helped a lot in helping me figure out what I should start with first, trying to fill in the gaps.

First off, I didn't manage to finish my audiobook, Battle Royale but I had 2 hours left so I'm able to count it for the readathon. And I just finished it this morning, so we can check off our first finished book/prompt. I'll be reading Going Rogue next for the humorous prompt and listening to Sea of Tranquility for the science fiction prompt.

@LYNN & @Sheena - I can totally relate to being obsessive about the readathons. ;)

@Abbie - Haha, aren't business clothes a thing of the past anyway! Even if your books don't fit anywhere, it'll help with pages aka undergarments. :) And post your books, perhaps we can help you figure out where they might fit!

Happy Reading, everyone!

message 11: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments It's so exciting to watch the plans tab filling up!!

Yah Jenn, first book already! Love it.

I finished my first book (The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels) and have started Bleeding Heart Yard which fits lots of prompts.

I did a search for office prompt and found The Devil Wears Prada fits and was available on audio at my library so I'm listening to that while I take a "reading" break to do laundry.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3287 comments I'm about to start reading for the day soon, but I'm working my way through The Winners. It's a great book, but slow going (and nearly 700 pages!).

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Rachel wrote: "I'm about to start reading for the day soon, but I'm working my way through The Winners. It's a great book, but slow going (and nearly 700 pages!)."

Oh, my! I am so excited to read all three in that trilogy in May! Once I obtained a copy of The Winners I decided there was no way I was reading it without revisiting the first two. And since my April reading schedule is packed to the max and beyond, I am waiting until May! :) I love everything I've read by this man that has been translated into English!

message 14: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) I counted The Way Men Act by Elinor Lipman for the humor prompt in the PARTY part of the closet! :)

I highlighted that prompt on the planning and completed tabs as well. Feel free to change to any other color you please! :) I just used one since no one else had highlighted that I'd noticed!

We have 3 prompts fulfilled already!! One in Business, one in Party, and one in Avant-Garde! Whoo! Whoo!

I also went ahead and listed the 270 pages I've read so far today on the Undergarments tracking sheet. I'll add to it at the end of the day for a total.

message 15: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments Day 1 and we are looking good!

4 prompts completed! We have a Business Jacket, a Party Hair Clip and Avante Garde Hoop and Feathers. A great start to our wardrobe. It's an interesting look to be sure, but a great start nonetheless.

I'll be reading more of Going Rogue tonight. Insomnia is great for readathons. lol

Go Team Chanel!

message 16: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3287 comments I ended up reading a total of 152 pages of The Winners, but nowhere near done yet. I imagine it will take me at least another 2 days to finish given the pace/writing style.

Lynn, I hope you like it when you get to it! I had to reread the first two before even attempting this one and it was definitely a big help. The only downside is that the slow pace can get to me a bit when I have so many other books that I also really badly want to be reading, and I can usually only manage one book at a time!

message 17: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1503 comments Good Morning Team Chanel, I will finish Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver soon. I love this book. I have a library book but I'm putting it on my list of books I want as gifts. This is a list for my husband. Right now it looks like I will put it under Formal, Necklace: A book over 400 pages. My next read is On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. This should be a quick read. My main distraction today is the Masters. I find myself focused on the leader board & beautiful course. I'll check in once I finish my current read. I forgot to mention I will still listen to Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

Glad to know you felt it was beneficial to reread the first two!

No matter whether we read one book at a time or switch among multiple books, we're still reading! And that is what counts! :)

message 20: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) I admit I've been playing games on my phone this morning to prepare myself to finish Yellow Wife, which is one tough read. The inhumanity of humans to one another is sickening. And to know it actually happened and continues to happen around the world. I'm looking forward to lighter subject matter once I finish it!

message 21: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Ooohhh... we also have one undergarment already!! YAY!!

message 22: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments Morning everyone!! I was up early reading, took a brunch break with the family and now back to my books. I must add my numbers to the spreadsheet but going to read a bit more first. Currently in the middle of a murder mystery and I must find out who did it :)

message 23: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1503 comments Hi Team Chanel, I finished Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver. I used it for Formal, Necklace: A book over 400 pages. Sheena, I used the blue for filler because I wasn't sure which filler color I should use. I know multiple colors can cause confusion.

message 24: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments Hey Team! I fussed with the spreadsheet a little and streamlined the color tabs. I was going for spring-y colors. We'll use another color for a second round. Please feel free to change, if you had something else in mind, Sheena.

I'm continuing with Going Rogue today and likely to finish. I've also started Flame in the Mist that works for a few prompts.

@Rachel - I've noticed that you haven't entered your book in the spreadsheet. Would you like me to do so? I'd be happy to.

@Sherri - Enjoy the Masters today!

@LYNN - Yellow Wife was definitely not an easy read.

@Sheena - Murder mysteries are my favorite!

Have a great day, everyone, reading or otherwise!

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments @ Rachel, I found the Winners a super slow read! 152 is great progress.

@JennH spreadsheet looks great to me!

I've just been reading, reading, reading! Finished Bleeding Heart Yard (slightly sad we didn't get enough clues to really solve the mystery myself but still enjoyed it) and half way though my audio. Going to add to the spreadsheet and plan my next book.

We're off to such a great start!!Go team

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments Hey Team, does anyone have any ideas for a book with a pattern? I found a couple but I've read them or aren't super interested. I also asked in the FAQ to see if other teams have any recs? I suspect this might be our toughest prompt to fill.

I had a possibility in mind, wasn't totally sure if it would work:
The Man With the Golden Gun (James Bond, #13) by Ian Fleming
But the problem is that I had to put it on hold. Crossing fingers that it'll come in soon.

I was just looking at books I borrowed as possibilities. I know this is a stretch but would this work as a pattern?
Lemon Larceny (The Donut Mysteries) by Jessica Beck

message 28: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Finished Yellow Wife and would encourage everyone to read it. A compelling read, to say the least, IMO!

Interestingly, and ironically, on page 178 three books were gifted to the main character, the one named was Emma! Coincidence? I think not...as I head off into Emma-land once again! LOL

Also started on my reread of Legends & Lattes to take a break before finishing YW. It is just as enjoyable the second time around for me!

Feel free to add any of my updates to the spreadsheet if I haven't! I often update only at the end of the night right before bed so I have my full day's progress accounted for at once, but sometimes that means being up past midnight (on a work night) or even later, so I don't always remember to do it!

message 30: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments 11 hour drive home today and I didn't even get to listen to an audiobook the whole time because my brother joined for half the trip. Still got in some good listening. Impressive progress so far!

Finished my two books and added to the spreadsheet.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3287 comments Ending up reading another 110 pages of The Winners today. The pacing definitely picks up a bit in the second half! Will do! Just wanted to help if I could. I've added your book to the Planning tab bc I noticed you hadn't yet. As I haven't read the book, I've only marked a few prompts that I thought it might fit.

Wow, 11 hours! That's a whole lotta time in the car. Yay for your two books!

I think your book works for the pattern prompt.

message 35: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments We're ending Day 2 with 10 books/prompts completed and 3 undergarments accrued!

We're close to having a complete Casual outfit. Just missing one prompt - a short book (under 200 pages).

I've been reading 10th Anniversary but I haven't gotten as far as I thought I would. But James Patterson books are fast reads, which is why I usually read them for readathons.

And I'm about halfway through Flame in the Mist.

message 36: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments @ Jenn - I think both of those would work! Emily replied to my question in the sign up/FAQ thread and said it wasn't too strict/any repetition could count. She gave a few more ideas too!
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Lynn - I'm reading Legends now (for the fist time) and loving it.

Jen - yes, I would say that's a pattern for sure! 11 hours - yikes!!

message 39: by JennH (new)

JennH | 564 comments Morning, Team! We are at 5 undergarments! Way to go, Team Chanel!

I'll be continuing to read 10th Anniversary. I should be finishing up Flame in the Mist. My hold for The Man With the Golden Gun came in, yay, so I'll be listening to that next. It can fit the pattern prompt or short book prompt, or a few others if those prompts are fulfilled by others first.

Happy reading, everyone!

message 40: by L Y N N (last edited Apr 10, 2023 08:58AM) (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Finished Legends & Lattes late last night, so only just documented it. I used it for food or drink on the cover since that prompt to appeared to have the fewest options on the planning sheet.

Determined to FINISH Emma today and make some headway into Angel & Hannah: A Novel in Verse and/or The Reluctant Fundamentalist!

Though this is a gym workout day and I've got to cook, so less time for reading today!

Team Chanel is flyin' high!!

message 41: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 47 comments Good Evening, Team!

I wasn’t able to get much reading done yesterday with family stuff, but today I finished Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead and am starting on The Resisters. One review described it at “The Hunger Games with baseball” so we’ll see. I like baseball and dystopian novels, so hopefully I don’t regret picking it.

I also added Blackmail and Bibingka to my TBR for a book with a holiday since I enjoyed the first two in the series and cozy mysteries read pretty quick. It will be a couple days before they bring it to my library branch, but I should still have time to read it before Sunday. It’s a shame that The English Understand Wool isn’t 100 pages because I already have that in my pile and just learned that it takes place during Ramadan.

May have to add the Beartown series to my list with all the love it’s gotten from this group…

message 42: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3287 comments I read a little more than expected today given how exhausted I was. My work has had a very wonky schedule over the past week or so because of Passover, so today was the first time I had to wake up early in nearly a week. I find I never sleep properly when I know an alarm is coming! We worked only a half-day, but I came home exhausted and had a lot of trouble focusing on reading

I ended up reading 90 more pages of The Winners, and should be able to finish it off tomorrow, at least.

message 43: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1503 comments Hi Everyone, would someone please put my audio hours on the spreadsheet? 3.38 hrs. The internet is spotty here so once I get home later I’ll check in. Thank You.

Looks like we need another column on the spreadsheet so I'll go ahead and add round #two now.

message 45: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I finished What Moves the Dead last night. Such a creepy and fun book that I couldn't put it down.

I had intended to use for short book but now that there are so many options there, I think I will use cross genre. Let me know if the group thinks otherwise to finish up casual.

JennH | 564 comments Good morning, Team! We are looking good! Though it appears we're not too fond of Business attire. lol Thanks for the breakdown, Sheena!

I just finished The Man With the Golden Gun and while it was a short book and could have completed a casual outfit, the pattern prompt had less options so I went with that instead. I think it's easier to find short books. We can always move if needed.

I'm still reading 10th Anniversary with the intent to finish today. I also started Animal Farm which can go for a short book, as well as few other prompts. Though it's a short book I won't be finished until the end of the week as I'm reading it as part of a discussion group.

I'm starting on audiobook, The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. It's a little bit longer than usual audiobooks I go for during a readathon but I didn't time things well and it's due soon. So that's up next. Good thing it can fit a few prompts and there's a possibility it might work for spans decades which we don't have many books for.

Happy reading, everyone!
