Alp Mortal Have just produced a book trailer for a new release and uploaded it onto YouTube.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience - but I wonder if the book trailer is just a fad.

What do you think?

Christie Maurer | 32 comments Glad you enjoyed making your trailer, but unfortunately I've heard from several authors that they do not result in increased sales.

Lorna Collins (lorna_collins) | 93 comments I do them because I enjoy them. Ours are on my profile here on Goodreads as well as on our website. I haven't found they increase sales, but I think they do give the reader the flavor of the book.

Ian Clements (OldTimeGent) | 5 comments I don't see much future for the book trailer, myself. If someone is interested enough to click on your book then they're probably more likely to read the blurb than watch a trailer. Would you watch one on your phone on public transport (if that's possible, I guess), or if you were covertly using the net at work? Theoretically, a book trailer could be quite impressive, but then it would need to be professionally made and who could justify the expense?

Afraid I'd probably rank them next to character interviews on my personal scale.

Lorna Collins (lorna_collins) | 93 comments I look at my friends' trailers when they send a link to them. but they don't influence my decision to buy the book or not.

Alp Mortal I suspect the fun will always out-weight the direct benefits - the project was funded by beers so I wonder what we could do with a budget of $100.

Am planning to do more - was a great experience to use a recording studio.

please send me links to any that you have produced and I'll put them on my YouTube channel ... I like the idea of a book trailer library ...
