I totally thought my most tagged would be sci-fi, but I think all the books I read before online tracking added to that weight, and my stricter definition of sci-fi as compared to fantasy. Officially my most tagged was "fiction" but that's just a broad category, not a favorite itself.
After the events of the first novel Alex is on the radar of Light and Dark Mages, for good and ill. He is taking a few jobs for the council and discovers a ritual which drain the life from magical creatures... creatures like Starbreeze or Arachne. Alex has a personal stake in preventing anyone from performing this ritual.
In parallel Luna is being trained to control her curse by Alex as an informal apprentice, a situation which conflicts with their friendship when Luna brings Martin to visit Alex's shop. Martin is non-magical, but interested, and in the shop the monkey's paw appears before him. Alex tries to warn Martin and Luna off, but of course they don't listen.
Like the first novel there is magic and action tempered by a few moments of levity, though this is certainly a darker series than some. The story line is completed in each novel even though the characters lives continue, essential for my enjoyment of any series.
