Hope they get you sorted out, Fiona. Even thought we have so much sunshine here, we have a massive rate of Vitamin D deficiency here in my city as most of us are office workers. Seems like once they work it out and get you back in balance, then things usually work themselves out. Good luck!
Jenn wrote: " ...fish in your diet..."Lol fish is not the first thing I would have thought of. Not saying wrong, but just amused. More fish is always good, and has reminded me to go take my fish oil tablets :D
Aw, sorry to hear that, Fiona, vit. D deficiency is very common. We need sunshine! When my son was little, we were adviced to give him that in little drops. All the little ones need that until a certain age. I've got my thumbs up for good test results Monday!
Thanks, Rus and Saar :) I just hope it’ll all be better soon! Right now I’m focused on not missing the start of the toppler though lol
Whew - that was a lot of catching up! I am still kicking around and still working from home.
It is 24C (75F) here today! After all the rain the last two months, the sunshine is wonderful. I mowed my lawn yesterday until the battery on my lawn mower died. Then, my string trimmer (weed whacker) ran out of string, so I quit. I have to put more string in my string trimmer after I finish the lawn this evening. It is killing me to sit here at my desk and look outside, but back to the grind.
Happy day, everyone!
Waw, that's nice weather, Cherie, good to enjoy it. Maybe you can let your garden grow a bit. It would do good to nature. Here, in Belgium, in May, it's 'Do not maw your garden'- month. In Dutch it rhimes, but the idea is to do nothing in your garden and just let nature, the insects...take over and enjoy the little peace of heaven. It's something I already do every year since we've got our garden 7 years ago. I just do the neccesary things, but I maw not more than 3 times a season.Anyway, here it's still 16°C cold, but sunny. Last weekend we made a new chicken coop for our 2 hens. I liked the finishing result. It's not Alcatraz, but at least they can't escape anymore. The other coop was broke by the weather and they were roaming free in the garden.
I just got an email from one of our local garden centers letting me know about next month's events. Apparently May 6 (first Saturday in May) is World Naked Gardening Day. The garden center said, :Partake in the fun....just not here". Austin Tx (where I am) is listed as one of the top 10 cities that celebrate. I think it's going to rain. Oh well....
Ruslaka, I thought you would like this: Australia changes to color television live on March 1, 1975https://twitter.com/historyinmemes/st...
Good ol' Aunty Jack. I saw an interview with them about this just the other day.She used to end the show by telling the kiddies “If you don't behave, I'll jump through your set and rip yer bloody arms off!”
Hahaha.. oh my 😂 I feel like the whole thing is very Australian. None of that would be on American TV. No Aunty Jack, no arm ripping. lol
Marked safe from Alberta's wild fires. We have several wildfires out of control in Alberta. Towns nearby have been evacuated to Grande Prairie. My son texted about an hour ago and he's been put on alert to prepare for a possible evacuation. He lives 20 kms out of town and says he has two different fires on either side of him about 5-10 kms away.Last night was surreal. I went out for supper with a friend, and when we got out of the restaurant at 7:30 it was a dark orange/brown sky. Street lights and car lights were all on, but muted by the smoke. I thought about that picture of that woman in Australia a couple of years back in a boat with a back drop of the same orange/brown sky. It was completely dark in my house when I walked in. Normally, it doesn't even start getting dark until after 9 at this time of year. Air quality seems a bit better tonight and nothing like last night.
We have smoke too, but not that much 😷 I think they have finally lifted all of the evacuation notices around us, but the is still a massive PTSD reaction for so many people 😞 Be safe, and be good to each other as you have no idea what the other is dealing with ❤️
Oh jeez, Janice! Hope you and Alan stay safe. Make sure you have everything together in case you get a last minute call to go.I know exactly what you mean re: the colour of the sky, its very odd and disconcerting. Hoping everything passes and they get it all under control quickly.
I didn't know about the dures in Alberta. I hope everything goes well and Alan and you do not need to evacuate. Stay safe and calm.
I also hadn't heard about the fires in Alberta. Crossing fingers that Alan doesn't have toe evacuate. Stay safe.
I also understand about the color of the sky, Janice. It was like that a couple of years ago when we had all of the fires around us in Oregon and Washington. It is a nice, cool day today and I am heading outside to do some yard work. I’m going to try out my new electric hedge trimmer and see if I can shape my way - overgrown hedge next to my driveway.
The sky is clearer today and it doesn't smell as smoky. A friend posted graphic pictures of where the fires are located as red squares. There are less of them today compared to yesterday. Fingers crossed that it keeps improving. I've heard waterbombers and helicopters flying over all day.Jenn, I was thinking of you and wondering how you were faring. I can imagine the PTSD being triggered in your area. The friend I had supper with the other night was living in Slave Lake when fire destroyed their home and everything they had. This is bringing back some memories for her too.
Glad you are well Janice! We are all physically well up here, there were communities half an hour South of us that have been in evac readiness, but they got it under control. It is surreal that Drayton Valley has been evaced, we were there two weeks ago for the agility trials. It seems like the fires have gotten so much worse in recent years, Slave Lake, us in Ft. Mac., all through BC, now Alberta is already in a state of emergency, and that is just us North of the border 😞 it’s crazy
Janice wrote: "Marked safe from Alberta's wild fires. We have several wildfires out of control in Alberta. Towns nearby have been evacuated to Grande Prairie. My son texted about an hour ago and he's been put on ..."Sorry to hear about the wild fires in Canada. Hope you all keep safe.
Chiming in from the East coast of India. Based in the city of Kolkata (Earlier- Calcutta). There is a cyclone alert out for the next couple of days that has folks worried.
I'm glad it's getting better and didn't make it to your home, Janice. Hopefully, they can continue to extinguish those fires. Must've been really scary with the smoky skies. The closest I've ever been to anything like that was when there was a fire nearby and it was really smoky. The smoke drifted into our neighborhood and I wasn't home at the time. On the way home, I could not see anything and almost drove off the road. Craig had to walk from our house to come get me and walk beside the car to tell me where the road was. It was such a strange experience.
I also drove by a massive tornado once. That was scary. It was so close and my text alert went off to warn me of tornados in the area while I was sitting in my car looking at it and hoping I could get past it safely (not so helpful). It crossed the road I was on after I passed and destroyed a building on the other side if the road. That was probably my scariest and most dangerous weather-related incident.
I've never been somewhere were I might need to evacuate for any weather / fire related issues though.
Please stay safe everyone!Kristie, that sounds so scary. I've never lived in an area either where I might have to evacuate. So the scariest thing I've witnessed was probably a storm 10-15 years ago when the power was out for over a day and a lot of our roof tiles flew away and broke.
Some small, positive news: My new colleague just agreed to listen to an audiobook with me while we're working. Yay!
Storms with a lot of wind like that can be scary too, Fiona! That's great that your new colleague will listen to audiobooks with you! That will be some great book time. :)
Janice wrote: "The sky is clearer today and it doesn't smell as smoky. A friend posted graphic pictures of where the fires are located as red squares. There are less of them today compared to yesterday. Fingers c..."Good to hear from you Janice, I saw the reports on the news and had to check this thread to see if you'd been evacuated. I hope all your friends and family are are ok. The air must be horrible, I remember last year there was a forest fire in the mountains close to us and my lungs didn't like it at all!
The fires continue. The reports are that 30,000 people in Northern Alberta have been evacuated. My son is still in alert stage and he said that as long as the winds don't turn and the fires don't jump the river, he should be fine. The winds have picked up. Yikes! I'm hearing the waterbombers fly over all day long.
We had our bookclub meeting and it was to be in the hostesses back yard, but it was too smokey and several have asthma that could be triggered.
I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up with tracking the challenge, but I'm a bit distracted right now. I'm finding that activities like World of Warcraft and diamond painting are keeping me from fretting.
I just let the dog in, and was thinking of you Janice when I realized how smoky it had become 😞 we are doing a rain dance 🤞 and sending good vibes for the firefighters 🚒 ❤️
I said that I would be doing a happy dance in the rain if any arrived. So far, no such luck. I saw a post on Facebook where a man had gone out and washed his truck thinking that would be a sure way to bring it on.
No worries, Janice! There is no need to apologize. It is completely understandable that you would be distracted. I'm glad you've found something that can distract you a bit.
It is a good idea to stick with whatever calms you, Janice. Don't worry about the challenge or any other mod duty. I really, really hope the rain finally comes. Here what triggers a storm is my husband buying a picanha to grill outside. It never fails. :/
I think your rain dance worked - but here where I live. Putting all my power into mentally sending it over!!
Hope you get the rain everyone else is getting, Janice, and the fires get controlled. Stay safe Janice and Jenn. Prosenjit - hope the cyclone has dissipated without much damage in Kolkata.
Sorry Fiona, I guess my aim was a little off 🤦♀️ and now they say we will be in a heat dome for the rest of the month 🤦♀️ Stay safe everybody ❤️
