Well, turns out my neighbor will be gone till next Sunday and my parents say it’s probably best to get a new car.
Oh no, Fiona. My dad was also the one to always know how to fix my cars when I was younger. I remember being in your same situation when I was in my 20s - broken down car, living across the country. I'm sure your parents would love to see you in a more reliable car because they aren't around to help. I hope you work it out soon. I feel like three most common reasons one of my cars wouldn't start were the starter, the battery, or the alternator (which charges the battery). At least that was the case when I was younger. I could very well be dating myself here. lol As far as car repairs go, they weren't the most expensive to have to fix.

@Kristie: waw, your own library room! That's very nice and you can make it so cozy. I've got the attic with all my books, but haven't found the time to re-arrange it all.@Roz: that was so funny to read. I'm happy you see the humor in your situation.
@Fiona: I don't know anything about cars, but I hope you won't get a new one. If so, maybe a good second hand one? Also good for the bank account ;)
My exam went well, I think, though. At the end of this month I've got organic chemistry. That will be something else.
I think no matter what happens with my current car, I'll need a new car anyway. Here in Germany we have to get our cars checked every 2 years and if it doesn't pass, you can't continue driving. And I'm very certain that without spending a lot of money on fixes, my car isn't gonna pass. But it's just not worth getting it fixed and pay like half of what I paid for the car 10 years ago. I remember my former roomie having her organic chemistry exam. She went crazy but in the end she passed.
Yes, Saar. It will be a cozy space. :) My books are mostly in boxes in my my attic right now. It will be nice to finally have a space for them again. I'm glad your exam went well. I'm sure you will do great on your organic chemistry as well. We also have those inspections here, Fiona. We have to do it annually and then we either need to repair anything that doesn't pass or we can't drive the vehicle. If that's the case and you need something newer regardless, then I hope you are able to find a new car that you love that fits your budget. It's always exciting to get a new car once you get past the shopping for it phase.
For right now I will just wait until my neighbor is back from his skiing trip. But I will definitely have to look into buying a new car. We'll see what happens and until then, I'll take an e-scooter to work. I used it for the first time ever this morning and it was quite fun.
It looks like a lot of us are dealing with changes/setbacks. We go along taking things for granted, (parts of our bodies, cars), and then something happens to knock us on our asses. Or we realize that rooms that used to be needed for bedrooms and dining are sitting empty. It's time to tap into our creative Macgyver selves. Look at you, Fiona, on an e-scooter. I'm still exploring ways of doing things one handed. Actually, typing on this computer with just my right hand is a slog. I think most of us are jealous of you and your new librar(ies)/crafts room, Kristie. Before we moved to Texas last year, we had a big old house with 4 bedrooms, full attic and basement, separate dining room, etc., plus a a couple of extra spaces thrown in for good measure. Two people in all that space. Like you, the kids had moved out, and the DR was only used a few times a year. Heck, I couldn't even give away my "good" dishes! The past is for fond memories. Good to see you putting the space to better use to match where you are today. Everyone should have a happy, cozy place, even if it's just a chair in a quiet corner by a window with a table to hold a book and a cup of tea.
Fiona, an e-scooter does sound fun! I hope you have lovely weather the whole time you use it! Seems like it could be an enjoyable way to start and end your work day. :) Exactly, Roz. I certainly miss having my family around, but looking at unused space won't turn back time. So, on to new things. My rooms aren't large, but I'm glad that I have hobbies that can fill them and make it into a happy space.
You seem to be doing quite well one-handed and making the best of it. I hope your recovery goes as quickly as possible and you are back to using both hands soon.

I agree, Saar! I'm having a bad week I think. Nothing (besides the car thing) happened really but I'm just feeling a bit under the weather. I wish I could just stay at home and read or sleep.
We just got the congratulatory email, my little Gus (border collie x blue Heeler) just got his first qualifying ribbon in an agility trial 🎉 it was done as a video send in at out last training session, so next step is to get ourselves tuned up and go to a live trial (we are looking at April 22/23) 🤞
Omg omg omg! Did any of you know there's a tv series of Daisy Jones & The Six?! It seems the 3rd episode was just released on Amazon Prime. I'm watching the first right now!! I so loved that book!

@Jenn: congratulations on the hard work with Gus. You are a good team with him.@Peggy: yes, I've read it in the news papers. Is the book really so great? It seems to be a hype now, allthough it's a couple of years old.
I loved it, I would have given it 6 stars if I could. But I love everything from or set in that time, so I might have been a bit biased.I'm currently reading a hyped book that everyone loves and I think it's just okay, so it's always very personal.
I've added it to my TBR - pile out of curiousity ;)What are you currently reading, Peggy? I always wait until the hype is over to read it.

Oh, I have that on my TBR, Peggy. My face-to-face book club is going to read it at some point, I think next year. I was wondering if the type was earned or not.
I’ve read Lessons in Chemistry and enjoyed it - I gave it four stars. I do think it’s a bit over hyped but compared to other books that are over hyped and I go “really?” with this one I can at least understand why. It’s different, funny, and MC is super smart. I loved (view spoiler) 😊 Peggy, I hope you like it!
I think for me the blurb and praise led to certain expectations but then the book was different from what I expected and it took me a while to adjust. I'm enjoying it more and more the further I get though!

Last day of spring break here although you wouldn't have said from the weather...
Spring break? It's early where you are. Usually, winter break is break is February and spring break is April. At least in the areas I'm familiar with. It seems a little silly to have spring break in March; it's still so cold. Hope you enjoyed their time off despite the weather.
It is incredibly early here. Always on the first complete week in March. Always cold and even snowy. It doesn't make sense to me. Most people go on vacation to the South, but my husband still has to work, so we stay here, but our options for enjoyment are limited. Still I had a decent amount of sleeping hours every single day, for the first time in months, and that is an achievement in itself. :)
It's the same here, called Spring Break even though it's late February/early March. In the south it's in the same week as Carnival so we always call it Carnival Break. There's another break end of April/start of May (so in actual Spring), which is called May Break.
Daylight savings are still 2 weeks away for us.
Oh, I’d say catching up on some sleep is a win, Sandra! Maybe it’s good you didn’t get to go away. I often find I’m more tired when I get home from a vacation and need a day to recover from the travel. Peggy, daylight savings is today here. I made the mistake of telling Craig we should go out to breakfast today and chose a place that didn’t open until 10am so I wouldn’t be too tired from the change. He didn’t check the restaurant hours and woke me up just before 8 all excited to go. My body was not prepared to accept the loss of the hour. Lol
Oh no! Give him better instructions next time, lol!
Daylight savings is 2 weeks away for me too. I completely forgot that it will happen soon. My neighbor came home yesterday and checked my car. Today he changed the battery (he had a spare one casually sitting in his garage) and now my car works again! Yay!
I am so happy to be able to drive to work tomorrow instead of taking the bus (I switched from e-Scooter to bus because it was too cold and too expensive). On Thursday I was just walking to the bus stop when all of a sudden my knee started cracking with every step. When I got home, it started hurting very bad and it’s still not gone completely. I hope it will get better soon.

Oh, yay, Fiona! Glad it was an easy fix. Too funny your neighbor just randomly had an extra battery in his garage! Hopefully being able to rest your knee will help it to heal quickly.

Glad it was an easy and inexpensive fix, Fiona.I'm not a fan of daylight savings time. It takes me a long time to adjust, and I get so fatigued,
My knee still cracks when pressing down on the clutch which is incredibly annoying and it hurts if I twist it a bit too much but I think otherwise it is fine again. It is finally getting warmer again! It started yesterday and the next few days are all gonna be up to 18°C. I'm so happy about this, I hate it when it's cold.

Oh, enjoy the warm weather, Fiona! We've had one warm day with 17°C, the next day snow, storm, rain and cold! Now it's sunny, but cold. I want a normal Spring...Daylight saving time is in Belgium on Sunday March 26th. I hate loosing an hour of sleep. It takes a couple of days to adjust.
Thanks! My sister will celebrate her 25th birthday on the 25th so hopefully I’ll just be partying through the night 💃🏻 that way i won’t notice the missing hour haha

And we do have such a service too but I’m not a member. I always had my dad around to fix things but then I had the glorious idea to move to the other side of the country for work.
