Let's Talk 2023 . . .
Happy New Year Everyone! How's the first day of the new year treating you so far? Do you have any old tried & true family traditions for New Year's? I'm cooking greens, peas & hog jowls...yes, I said hog jowls. It's a southern tradition that stretches back to the beginning of time...or almost! lol We wouldn't think of starting a new year without this menu. How about you?
Anyone else having an issue adding books to Currently Reading? When I click to change it from Want to Read to Currently Reading, it reverts right back to Want to Read. That's from the book page once I pull up the book I want to add to my reading list.
I just noticed that the page changes at the top at the time I click on Want to Read to indicate I'm not signed in. Crazy way to kick off 2023!

That glitch has been going on for a couple of weeks now. My workaround is to pull up the edition list and access mine from there. You can also do it by going to My Books.
It’s highly annoying. It seems to happen when you search for the book and launch the result. There were earlier issues with the search function and I’ll bet the two are linked.
*sigh* Wish they’d dump this new book page.

The first day of the new year is very quiet for me. My local family went to Baltimore for the Ravens vs. Steelers game. I stayed home to watch it on TV. It was freezing when I checked the weather, but the Floridians brought the warm (for Balto) weather with them.I'm trying to organize my reading challenges. I'm hoping that a little more planning will help me finish more of the challenges.

Usually I just fill in the challenges with books that I read for the first 7 or 8 months, then scramble to fill in the hard ones. I'm trying to tackle it differently this year. I figure I can work on this while I watch the Steeler game.
I've had problems with the search functionality for over a week. I put in a title and it doesn't come up with anything about 50 percent of the time. I've been trying to work around it, but sometimes it isn't easy.
Sharon wrote: "Oh Robin, don't tell me you are a Steelers fan. 😝 I will try to be nice while the game is on. 😂"LOL. Yes, life-long Steeler fan. Even when they seem to sometimes act like a different team after half-time. They can't seem to play a consistent 60 minute game.
IT’S 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL “THANK GOD IT’S MONDAY” DAY AND IT’S HAPPY MEW YEAR FOR CATS DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL CREAM PUFF DAY AND IT’S RUN IT UP THE FLAGPOLE AND SEE IF ANYBODY SALUTES IT DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL SCIENCE FICTION DAY!
IT’S NATIONAL MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATIONAL DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL WEIGH-IN DAY AND IT’S WORLD INTROVERT DAY!
Today I had a nice meal, Indo-Mauritian style. This traditional way of preparing food is low in salt and is also very tasty. The only negative thing about it is that not all ingredients in its making contain fibre. But otherwise it was a very healthy supper.

If anybody has ever read William Faulkner, I have a question, did he ever put quotation marks in a sentence where a character is speaking?Reason why I ask, I've been reading some Cormac McCarthy and he does NOT put any quotation marks in a sentence where a character is speaking. If Faulkner ever did that, I'm gonna have to put him in a "no-read" list because quite frankly this Faulknerian style of writing is throwing me off.
IT’S HUMILIATION DAY AND IT’S J.R.R. TOLKIEN DAY AND IT’S MEMENTO MORI AND IT’S NATIONAL CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL WRITE TO CONGRESS DAY!

I read Faulkner in high school, but I can't remember whether he used quotes or not. He does have an unusual opinion about punctuation, so it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't.
IT’S DIMPLED CHAD DAY AND IT’S TOM THUMB DAY AND IT’S WORLD BRAILLE DAY AND IT’S WORLD HYPNOTISM DAY!
Christine wrote: "IT’S HUMILIATION DAY AND IT’S J.R.R. McCarthy is getting a share of humiliation today as well.
A nod to JRR Tolkien, thinking of doing a re-read of the Hobbit and LOTR this year.
Karen wrote: McCarthy is getting a share of humiliation today as well.Well yeah, because the way he writes his books is a fricken nightmare for people like me who are used to having proper punctuation marks in a story. Am I perfect with them? No I'm not, but even I know that when a character is talking, you put in quotation marks everytime a character is verbally talking. Apparently this guy threw that rulebook in a dumpster ever since the day he started writing college essays.
It got so bad, I had to turn on Text-To-Speech on an E-Reader app I was using just to finish No Country For Old Men. Now it does not diminish that novel as a good story, but his style of writing is something that I am not going to put up with anymore.
IT’S APPLE TREE DAY AND IT’S EPIPHANY AND IT’S NATIONAL SMITH DAY IT’S NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY AND IT’S WORLD DAY FOR WAR ORPHANS DAY!
IT’S BEAN DAY AND IT’S CUDDLE UP DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL SHORTBREAD DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL TAKE A POET TO LUNCH DAY!
IT’S DISTAFF DAY AND IT’S FRUITCAKE TOSS DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL PASS GAS DAY AND IT’S ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS DAY!
IT’S I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE DAY AND IT’S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMERS’ DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL BOBBLEHEAD DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL OLD ROCK DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL TEMPURA DAY!
IT’S ARGYLE DAY AND IT’S BAPTIM OF THE LORD AND IT’S NATIONAL ENGLISH TOFFEE DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL JOYGERM DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL MAN WATCHER’S DAY AND AND IT’S WAR ON POVERTY DAY!
IT’S EARTH’S ROTATION DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL SUNDAY SUPPER DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL WINTER SKIN RELIEF DAY AND IT’S SHOW AND TELL DAY AT WORK DAY AND IT’S WORLD TYPING DAY!
