Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2023
Hello from Taiwan! I am Cindy and I have been in reading challenge since 2022. Last year, I had read Atomic Habit and decided to build a reading habit by using the app Bookly. It helped a lot by providing clear data about my progress and keeping me motivated by friendly daily reminder. After accomplishing my 2022 reading challenge, I decide to take a step further out of my comfort zone to join a reading community. I am an introvert and English is not my first language, but I wish I can not only motivate myself to read more but also reflect more in 2023. Hopefully I can share some afterthoughts here and exchanges idea with different people.
I read mostly about mental health, but fantasy novels always provide me an escape especially when life is tough. Thus, my 2023 reading challenge list includes books written by Dr. Sue Johnson and His Dark Materials trilogy. Great stories not only heal wounds, but also bring light through the crack.
Hi Cindy! Your English is excellent! It's great to talk to you from Ohio, USA to Taiwan. I also occasionally read about mental health since I have suffered from anxiety most of my life. One of my favorite students, Katherine Liu, had parents from Taiwan. She was a serious reader too! Good Luck to you.
hiii im naina from latin america :) i enjoy reading mostly anything but lately i’ve been veering towards crime/mystery and new adult books. i used to read a lot as a kid but i slowly stopped doing it and now i’m finally coming back to it so i haven’t yet found my genre or authors of preference. my goal for this year is 50 books and im looking forward to reading a wider amount of genres.
hi everyone ❤️I like reading mysteries, nonfiction, and classics. I didn't quite reach my reading goal last year so I'm hoping that joining a group will keep me on track!
Hello, I'm Amanda from South Carolina. Looking forward to 2023, this is the year I will reach my goal! I enjoy all the genres. My favorites are thriller/suspense, cozy mysteries, classics, fantasy and lately in the past year or so I've been getting into nonfiction-memoirs, biographies, self-help/educational books and audiobooks.

Thanks for your friendly reply. Hope some practical skills and insights from books can lead you to a more free, joyful 2023. :D
Hi I’m Violeta and am Swiss-Mexican living in China! Although I grew up and avid reader I somehow lost that passion along the way (after tons of academic reading for my masters I reckon). Am here to rekindle my love for literature and try to get into reading more again. I love fiction of all kinds, especially fantasy, historical and young adult. A good mystery is also always welcome. My goal this year is small because I want to make sure I make it achievable and not overwhelming. Little by little gets you a long way!

I think I speak for most members here when I say: "been there". I've yet to meet an adult that didn't lose their interest for reading (and a tiny bit the will for living) after years of academic reading.
Personally, I got back into the groove of reading (against all expectation) during my bachelor's degree some years ago with a goal of 12.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm Elle....I fell by the wayside last year with health problems and several surgeries. Looking to get back to reading this year and have already started "How to Stop Time" by Matt Haig...not my usual genre but I'm enjoying it so far! I live in London, UK and hope your 2023 has kicked off positively!
Haii I am Chaterah, I’m from the Netherlands. I started reading because of a friend who encouraged me, so I am open to all kinds of books. My goal this year is to read more and hopefully be able to learn more.
Hi! I’m Betty from Jackson, Michigan. I ❤️reading and read a lot. Last year I discovered that I love participating in reading challenges so I came here looking for another one to add on to my plan for 2023.
Hi! I'm Liz from Mishawaka, Indiana. I recently got back into reading. I have been in college for a while and reading for fun was more of a chore than an escape, but I have started again and don't regret it. My goal for 2023 is to read 30 books which might be hard for me as I can be a slow reader at times. However I am determined! I also want to write the first draft of my first novel this year. I hope that I can accomplish both goals!
Hey there im Alecia from South Florida. I enjoy reading a little bit of everything, historical fiction, novels, thrillers, biographies. I stumbled upon the group scrolling for one to find and here I am! My goal is to read 75 books this year. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
Hi, I'm Zoe from the UK and I'm new to Goodreads. My favourite genre is Paranormal Romance, some of my favourite authors are Lindsey Devin and Jen L. Grey. I have a rough goal of 10-15 books in 2023! Good luck with your 2023 reading goals everyone!
Hello! I am also from Michigan — just finished Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Loved it- witty and engaging; a nice get-away escape read. I’m an editor for a miniatures magazine, adjunct English professor and early college education consultant. What equally enjoyable reads might you suggest with LOL lines? Looking forward to being in the group.
Hello! My name is Tabatha, I’m 33, from Arizona.
I like to read all sorts of genres and I jump around quite a bit.
I’m currently reading the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series by Sarah J Mass.
I found the group just by growing Goodreads. It’s one of my goals to be more diligent about how I’m spending my time in this new year.
I have a goal set to read 30 books this year, I’m already on number 2, and have a few other books I’m going back and forth on.
Hi all! I'm Amy from Colorado in the USA. I'm going to try for 50ish books this year. I am an eclectic mood reader but gravitate toward magical realism, short story collections and historical fiction. Some of my best reads last year were:West with Giraffes
The Strange Bird: A Borne Story

Project Hail Mary
What Moves the Dead
I'm here for fun challenges and can't wait to meet some great people.
Hi from New Brunswick, Canada! I have just gotten back into reading after a long hiatus while I was in post secondary and reading textbooks. My favourite genre is psychological thriller. Any book that will keep me guessing and is a little spooky! My goal this year is 12 books. Please add me as a friend and please share your book recommendations with me!
Hi, my name is Lucy, I‘m 21 and from Germany. But I‘ll move to Arizona soon due to my relationship. I love reading romance books but I‘m open to any suggestions :)

Hello, my name is Precious (it is my given name). I'm originally from Ohio, USA but have been living in a small town in Indiana, USA for 5 years now. I love to read all kinds of books! My least favorite genre is self-help, aside from that I can get into almost any type of book but I LOVE dystopian/utopian fiction. My reading goal is 24 books this year and that is MUCH more than I read last year. I was an avid reader as a child and through my teen years but in college my reading really slowed down. I felt that 2 books a month would be an achievable goal for me and allow me to really savor the books I read as well. I have read Verity, and A Court of Thorns and Roses so far this year and am currently reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. Would love to add new friends and share about books and share book recommendations!reply | flag
Hi I’m Tori, I’m from Oklahoma, USA. I’ll read pretty much anything if it interests me at the moment, and my goal is 100 books this year, so I joined this group to try to stay on track!

Hi, I'm Jane, sometimes "Juniper" I've done the challenge twice before. Love that it pushes me to read outside my normal comfort zone. I read all 50 books for the challenge last year. My completed list is somewhere in cyber space, or 2022 Pop Sugar space.Somehow it reports that I have read 0 of the books I planned to read, when in fact, I read them all and checked them off. What did I do wrong? I think the same thing will happen this year. I signed up, stated I'd read 50, and can't seem to find my name or the list. Is there a moderator who can help? Or maybe there is a friendly team member who will search for my name. How can I scroll through the site to see the list I want to fill in? It seems this year that I can't even do that. If someone can help me, I promise to read the books you chose for several prompts...and discuss them with you. Thanks. from Jane, bewildered in Wyncote

Hi everyone! I'm Desiree from Texas! I enjoy reading mostly YA, paranormal, dystopian, and fantasy but I'm open to anything fiction. I usually never comment or engage in the groups I'm in but I've made it a personal goal to be more interactive this year. I hit my goal of reading 30 books last year and I've raised the bar to 45 books for this year! I'm really excited to start making new connections and possibly some new friends!

I am from San Antonio, Texas. I read all kinds of books no matter what I never DNF, I always keep going. Hi! My name is Heidi and I'm a wife, mom of 1 and nana to 6. I'm a huge cozy mystery and historical fiction fan, but will read just about anything as long as it's not overly violent or graphic. I try to always get a new book or two set in the locale I'm going on vacation to. I live in Ohio and work with youth in detention. This challenge is really stretching me and expanding my reading experiences.
Hi everyone! My name is Idalis and I'm from MD, USA :)
I love reading literary fiction, manga, a good chuck of Isabel Allende's work. I love reading in general so besides romance for the most part, I love reading anything! I was looking to see if I could find a group on goodreads that didn't feel too thematic or exclusive. My reading goal this year is to read 50 books but more importantly, to enjoy reading for the story and not just the number of books to cross off.
I look forward to our discussions! Happy reading :)
Good Morning everyone!I'm Maria and I live in Nebraska, USA.
I mainly like to read YA fantasy - or fantasy type books in general. I'm looking to expand the books I read as well.
I found the community through searching as I've been a member of goodreads for years and only now have decided to try find a group to get to know/talk about books with :)
My reading goal for the year is 20 books (Ideally I'd like to read 10 books and 10 audiobooks for the year).
Hi! my name is Tamini, from Chile, I’ll be 27 in a few days. This is the very first time I set a year reading goal and hope I do good :) Good luck for everyone
Tamini wrote: "Hi! my name is Tamini, from Chile, I’ll be 27 in a few days. Best wishes with your reading goal for the year, but remember it's not the end number that matters most, it's you enjoyment your experience as you try to reach the number. I've had years where I reach my number and I only actually enjoyed a handful of the books and struggled to hit my goal, and then I've had years where I loved every single book and surpassed my goal! Always aim for quality over quantity, and you will make it every time! Happy reading!
Greetings from deep South Texas. I am Elizabeth Sofia from a small oil, farming, and ranching community in deep South Texas. I am a retired Special Education teacher, switchboard operator, and secretary. I currently volunteer and am the relief library clerk at our small local public library. I love to read and talk about books. I have found that participating in reading challenges has helped me recover from strokes and other crippling illnesses.
Hi, I am Rox. I currently live in Louisiana and my favorite genre is fantasy. I used to read quite a bit when a child and teen but I grew "picky" or narrow minded. It's been way over a decade and I am now wanting to expand my reading taste again and learn to love reading books.
So my goal is very small, I just purchase 4 books and my goals is to finish them this year. I am hoping that I will continue to update my goals as I go and my book count at the end of the year is greater than 4.
Hi Rox, my name is Elizabeth Sofia. I have been a reader all my life. I began having strokes in my mid fifties, and getting back into reading was hard for me. One of the things I tried that worked was participating in reading challenges. Goodreads has many from which to choose that are not too demanding or complicated. I also use our tiny public library where I can talk to people about books. Good luck with your goals. I joined Goodreads in July 2022, and it has really made a difference.
Elizabeth wrote: "Hi Rox, my name is Elizabeth Sofia. I have been a reader all my life. I began having strokes in my mid fifties, and getting back into reading was hard for me. One of the things I tried that worked ..."Thanks for the advice! I will definitely look into it :) I really should go to our library here!
OK SO I FORGOT TO DO AN INTRODUCTION 'ello to all of you >:D
my name is Angie, but feel free to call me by my user (obviously much easier to remember)
this year I plan on reading 90 books, and Ive loved reading all my life but joined the GR community in 2021.
my favorite book series is The Hunger Games, and along with YA, Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres
Hey there! New here, I’m Amy Tiffany. My goal this year is 52 books, but that would be a very slow year for me. Last year was slow, because I was living in my car! But I’m back to work as an OTR driver and already ahead of schedule.I don’t know which group to ask and how to ask, but can somebody help me find a free e-book, “Sometimes a Great Notion”, by Ken Kesey. All the groups I join take too long to go through a book and I don’t have time to be a big commenter on discussions of books I’ve long since shelved as read.
Amy wrote: "I don’t know which group to ask and how to ask, but can somebody help me find a free e-book, “Sometimes a Great Notion”, by Ken Kesey. "Welcome, Amy! I have a few suggestions, but there may be other ideas.
- Hoopla: Audio. Check if your library has this service
- Overdrive/Libby: Audio and/or ebook if your library has purchased that title
- Openlibrary.com: They have 4 scanned editions you can borrow for free. Some of their books are 1-hour checkouts, and others are 14 days.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm Miah. I enjoy reading a lot of fantasy and historical fiction, and my goal this year is 40 books!
Hey I’m Shelby. I am from the West Midlands,UK. My favourite genres are crime and fantasy. My goal is small this year. I want to try read 5 books, but mostly just want to enjoy what I’m reading. As a new mum, I’m only reading at night for short periods of time :) It would be nice to make some new friends along the way too! :) x
