I don't participate in Bingo, but would like a group read (if I can join without the Bingo part). A group read would be fun.
Sounds great to have some interest... we will connect the books to BINGO squares but participating in BINGO is not a requirement for joining the fun of a Monthly Read.
Alan - I don't know what her newest book is about. does it fit a square?

I don’t know. I think it’s about a mother and her son is beaten up-I just like her,but anything will be fine with me.I can’t remember how we do this-do we set a date when we can talk about what we read?
Sounds like we have interest in This Is How We Love so this can be our inaugural group read of 2023. Thank you, Alan, for the suggestion!
Let's try and keep spoilers out of the conversation until mid January.

good morning!! As we ponder our group read for February, i am going to suggest that we concentrate on BINGO square 01 - a book that inspires positivity. Not only is it Heart and Stroke month but it February also contains Random Acts of Kindness Day. our world needs more positivity to keep us healthy and happy!! Any suggestions for a book meeting this criteria???
Great idea Susan! I am hoping one of the CR shortlist will fit this criteria. A few more days to wait.
I wonder about a book by Humble The Poet? "Things No One Else Can Teach Us" or "Un Learn 101 Simple Truths for a Better Life"? I've not read either, I find him humorous and compelling.
Humble the Poet was so great and positive when he participated in Canada Reads!!
I would also suggest any of the books by Neil Pasricha such as The Book of Awesome, You Are Awesome: How to Navigate Change, Wrestle with Failure, and Live an Intentional Life, The Happiness Equation: Want Nothing + Do Anything = Have Everything or Our Book of Awesome: A Celebration of the Small Joys That Bring Us Together. He has such a positive approach despite a difficult backstory and makes people smile with simple things.

Wondering what the group decided to pick for February read? Hoping to seek out a copy of the choice from the library this month.A few future ideas: Bad Cree and Last Winter These meet G3 and I 1 for me in the BINGO plans.
Hi folks - wow, I seem to have been missing all kinds of notifications on Good Reads. Looks like I missed a good conversation about whether we'll be doing Monthly Reads here. I'd love to join in when I can. Were there books chosen beyond Jan?
I will put forward Bad Cree by Jessica Johns- any interest for this one? It does hit several BINGO spaces.
Tomorrow for April 1st I'm going to start VenCo by Cherie Dimaline if anyone wishes to join me for a buddy read.
Sounds like a great plan Wanda!! this can be our April read and I have just put it on hold at the library. :)
Hi All - we have not done too well with the monthly reads but then again, life is busy!!
is there any interest in a summer read?
is there any interest in a summer read?
I know, Susan! Always seems like such a good idea, and then I just cannot commit! Ugh. I'd be interested, possibly. I'm trying not to buy new books and read those I have, so if it were one I already own, I'd be in! How about any of these... any interest?Fayne - a long one, so maybe we do it over the summer?
The Dishwasher - was on the CR longlist a couple of years ago
The Sleeping Car Porter - am I the only one who hasn't read this?
Care Of: Letters, Connections, and Cures - how about a nonfiction that's a series of letters? Good for a summer read?
I’m also on a book buying hiatus, and am trying to catch up on books I already own, but if I can get it from library I would be in.
Hi All! My shelves are overflowing as well and I love it! I own Fayne and would love a subtle push to start it. Given more time to read it, I think this book would have many channels of conversation.
I had a look at people’s lists. Looks like most of us have not read Fayne… maybe it could be a group summer project??
I love the idea of Fayne as I received it from my amazing secret sender and have not got to it yet!! Great suggestion!!
Let’s do it! Everyone okay with that? Heather - does the library have it? Tina - here is your nudge! I’m going to start it tonight. I happen to have just finished a couple of books & need to choose my next! Perfect timing for me.
I'll join but will need to get a copy very soon- it's a book that I've wanted to read for some time- and don't have it on my shelf. Good choice!
I'm trying to read lighter fare over the summer plus have couple of other long reads I'm doing, but I hope you all enjoy it!
Looking forward to joining a group read someday soon but I don't think Fayne is for me. I will monitor the group to see what is next!
I'm about 12% in and it's so fun! I am loving Fayne. It's a big undertaking from me, but I'm loving the writing, the characters and the scenery. Anyone decided to jump in too?
I also have just started and am loving the writing!! The size is intimidating but I believe the story will keep me engaged enough to not fear picking it up.
Happy Long Weekend to all.
Now I'm intrigued! I loved Ann-Marie MacDonald's Fall on Your Knees.... but did not like The Way the Crow Flies at all. Adult Onset was just so-so. As a result, I'm kind of afraid to invest in Fayne. Will watch this conversation for everyone's thoughts and impressions of it as you all make your way through this tome.🌼
I have [Fayne] on my ereader and it does sound interesting but it’s just too long for me to take on right now.
Is anyone interested in reading something light and Canadian this summer? I'm thinking of the Nigerian-Canadian romance Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo for some lighter fare -- more of a beach read.
Just started Fayne, and am really loving it so far. At one point though, during a description of Charlotte's walk through the moors, I was like 'this is slow and overly detailed, why do I love it?' but something about it just sucked me right in!I quite enjoy Charlotte as a character and am curious about her Condition. Just reached the point where she's decided to keep the tutor.
Will there be a thread for Fayne?
