I have to admit, there are quite a few movies I love that I had no idea were based on books -- they are quickly filling up my TBR list...I think I'm at like 500 now lol. I'm usually the same way as far as reading something after I've already seen it...that's why I've not read the Sookie Stackhouse series yet :/ but luckily it's been about 1-2 years since I've seen the movie (no cable anymore) so hopefully it will be *almost* like reading something completely new!
Book 4 is fang-tastic lol and anyone who doesn't love Eric really needs to look at the characters again!!

The Sookie Stackhouse books are totally different from the show. When you do read the books just forget everything you saw in the show because after season 1 the storyline totally changed. I read the books first and loved them so I didn't really care for the show.
I started with the first two seasons of the show, loved Eric, so I had to read the books, then I devoured the series. They definitely took it to two different paths. Loved Eric in both though. I completely agree about Season 4!!!

I've read about half of the first 2 and realize just how much has changed in those 2 books from the show, but I am still eager to see the story play out...because the ending to the tv series just plain SUCKED!

Ella, I think I'm going to buy the rest of the book series (I'm missing about 5 or 6) before I sit down so I can just knock them out one after the other without stopping!!
Yeah, the TV ending sucked. We'll have to chat once you are done with the books to see what you think. I don't want to say anything now ...
We definitely will Ella!! I'm always excited to have people to chat with that have actually read the same books!!!
Hi Brittany, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry I wasn't active on here for so long! After my vacation, things got a little cray-cray and I could only pay attention to a few groups. But I'm really trying to finish my challenge this year. Great progress with yours, btw!
I swear next year I'm going to *TRY* to read in order!! I hate not being able to talk to some people because I'm too much of a jumper :/
That's how I feel also. But I think it would be nearly impossible for me since I get my books from the library :/ Unfortunately I rarely get to choose my book since it's just whatever holds come through. I'm going to try though!
it sucks sometimes!! even though no one has really read the same books as me (with the exception of like 2 lol). But I'm reading the bone collector right now for week 50 and just want to go on a massive rant about it! lol
Is it the same as the movie? I wouldn't mind reading but I tend to lose interest if they're identical to the movie.
I wouldn't say it is identical, a lot of the scenes are the same, but some minor details have changed. His aide in the book is male, the third victim with the rats was female and apparently she survived -- I just finished that chapter so I'm waiting to see if she kicks the bucket from complications/infections or not. What I love the most about this book though (in comparison to the movie) is that it's not just from Lincoln and Amelia's point of view. You actually get to see some aspects from the killer's point too, like when he takes his victims. it's pretty cool cause in the movie you really only got to see him take the first two in the taxi.PLUS, it's the first book in a series. right now there are like 12 books and the next one comes out like next summer.
Oh wow, I had no idea it was even part of a series, let alone that there were so many.
I always find it intriguing to read from the killer's point of view. Maybe that's a little twisted. I'm thinking about switching out my "N" title (no shame) for Normal, which is from the killer's POV. It's just refreshing to see things changed up.

I didn't know it was part of a series either until I actually looked the book up lol. And it is totally twisted to think that, but my degree is in criminal justice and I've read quite a bit about Charles Manson...so maybe I'm just a twisted person? lol
If you are twisted than I must be really off the wall as I study serial killers and correspond with them to try and get their take on what made them commit the crimes. I just finished up my masters in criminal justice and my goal is to become a warden of a prison. So we do have some things in common.

I just finished up my masters..."I'd love to go back and get my masters in criminal justice!! when I first started school I wanted to double major in CJ and psych so I could aim to be a profiler...but after taking 1 or 2 psych classes I realized that just wasn't for me. so I finished out my CJ and just keep the profiling aspect as a hobby :)
Ok, so I changed week 31: bad review to Undead and Unreturnable because I read it as a side read and only gave it 3 stars. The average rating for GR is like 3.8 which is still pretty bad in my books, although i'll give anything a shot no matter what the reviews are. It just didn't make the cut for me, I mean it was good, I just feel like nothing happened in those 250 pages :/Oh yeah, and I finished the bone collector on 8/11...it was SOOOO much better than the movie. It has way more details and even an extra victim that wasn't in the movie. So Laura and Debra I really think you should give it a try since you are interested in that subject!!!

I agree Heather, I'm going to finish the series because I just love Betsy and Eric's love hate relationship...I just hope Laura gets put in her place right quick fast and in a hurry!
I decided to change my scary book from It to The Hellbound Heart...long story short I probably should have stayed with IT....
I can't believe that I'm so far behind in this challenge!!! Here recently I just haven't been in a very big reading mood. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've recently acquired a lot of the awesome Zelda games for my 3DS!! But I'm hoping to get back on track and get the rest of this challenge done.
I've been the same way :( I just started a new academic year so that may be part of it. I was only one book behind schedule and now I'm 4 books behind schedule. That doesn't sound too bad but summer was supposed to be a huge catchup period for me.
That's okay, though, it's still a successful year as long you read more than last year :)
That's okay, though, it's still a successful year as long you read more than last year :)
Well, I'm currently 11 books behind schedule...luckily a couple of the books are re-reads for me so they will go quickly *I'm looking at you Mr. Potter*But I agree Laura, as long as you've read more than last year it's a win-win all around!
Brittany wrote: "I decided to change my scary book from It to The Hellbound Heart...long story short I probably should have stayed with IT...."I am thinking also in change my scary book from IT to something else, not because I dislike IT but because is so long that I cannot be on track with the rest of categories. It was actually because it's so long that I chose it as my scary book, because I am a really slow reader and a book of 1300 pages was really scary... but I need to accept that I cannot make it now :(
Silvia wrote: It was actually because it's so long that I chose it as my scary book, because I am a really slow reader and the a book of 1300 pages was really scary... but I need to accept that I cannot make it now"I'm a bit of a slow reader myself, so you are not alone in that area! I know that a couple of people in the group have read some great stuff for the scary book, but don't all worked up over taking IT off your list!! I've changed my list so many times I can't even keep track now haha. I'm just going to try and put a couple of them on my list for next year and get them out of the way first :)
I am SO far behind! I'm definitely not reaching 52 books this year but I'm hoping to at least manage over half of the challenge. I was originally going to put IT on my list (and I still really want to read it) but after getting so far behind I decided to leave it for this year. Far too long when I have far too much catching up to do. I'm currently trying to read shorter/faster paced books from my list to give myself a chance to catch up and then I can go back to some of the others.
I feel the same Francesca. I'm probably going to change my list *yet again* to incorporate some of the books I've been reading lately just to try and catch up lol
Alright, so I've made more changes lol. I changed week 4 to the new Life and Death by Stephanie Meyer and changed week 44 to Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter.
Ok, so I've just changed week 51 as well. I changed it to Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs...Maybe next year I shouldn't make my whole plan at the beginning due to changing so many titles so often.
I've started leaving a few of mine blank or choosing about 2 or 3 options per topic so that I have more a choice when it comes to that topic and I can pick which one I feel like reading at that time. There are only a few topics that I'm only giving myself one book and that's just if its a book that I know I really want to read and know I won't change my mind about.
All of the books on my list I REALLY wanted to read though, and I still do...they just don't seem that great right now haha. I may only fill in about 5-10 at a time and go with those before moving on.
So I updated my list. I read The Hunger Games for week 36. I'm counting the way Katniss feels for Gale and Peeta as the love triangle, since she can't ever seem to make up her mind -.- lol

It was a good movie but I usually don't do well with reading a book after I've already seen the movie. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it though :)
