Kyle Roode | 5 comments At one point the main character was himself a slave but escapes and remains free.

I can’t remember much else about the plot but will post more as I remember more.

I read it sometime around 2003/2004 when I was either 9 or 10. I’m not sure how old the book was at that point. I remember being told it was meant for audiences a bit older than myself at the time.
At one point when trying to find it myself I came across the Neveryona series and I think was similar to that.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) | 79 comments Could it be King's Dragon and the Crown of Stars series by Kate Elliott? Thick fantasy novels, good on you if were tackling those at 9 or 10. The details generally match.

Kyle Roode | 5 comments It could be that one! The author’s name sounds familiar, and so do the main characters, but I don’t remember there being much magic in the book I read (although it was nearly 20 years ago…). I could have also read that book and maybe I’m remembering something different or even mixing details. I’ll have to see if my local library has that book and check it out. I appreciate the help, i’ll come back here to update.
