So excited to hit the finale... and will be so sad to see it end... I wish he would write more in this universe, as much as I enjoy Dresden, and am looking forward to seeing the Cinder Spires progress...

For THAT, the rule is 1 week early to 2 weeks late (and refers to when you started the book, once you start you can take months to read, if you want/need to)...

I devoured this today... 24hr audiobook, and I started it like 9hrs ago...

It was as good as I didn't remember (my memory for the details of this series, especially past book 2-3, was murky at best... displayed when I tried to discuss which books certain things happened in with Nirkatze, back in the book 1-2 threads in spoilers...

But it was great, and a super easy listen...

I also listened to half the interview Nirkatze linked a week or 2 ago, last week, and kind of wish Butcher had time to do a sequel series, where he says (view spoiler)[the enemies of the Vord would show up, that caused them to flee/chase the Marat to this planet in the first place... Started! Chapter 1--(view spoiler)[Kitai confronting Tavi about treating her like his "woman" instead of his beloved was hilarious--and I'm looking forward to seeing him try to crawl back into her good graces...

Also loved:

Alera: Ah, broken bones! Excellent! A chance to practice watercrafting. (hide spoiler)]

Yea... that scene had me thinking that Butcher is doing the romances so well in this series... I think about that alot more than I used to, after all the hate/apathy Sanderson has gotten over the years... and Robert Jordan's hair tugging :D

Yeah--the romances in this series are some of my favorites--and I've often seen it touted around as favorites of other SFF folks as well...

Through Chapter 11--(view spoiler)[The scene where it is officially revealed that the Alerans are descended from the lost Roman legion! I remember thinking how cool that was the first time I read it... not just a Roman-style culture, but actual Roman culture in exile...

Heh, and on that Romance note--Kitai just walking away without answering Tavi... still makes me laugh.

Damn but I'm right there with you Iain, wishing Butcher would give us a sequel in this world... though I imagine he probably won't even think about it until the Cinder Spires are done, if not Dresden...

Through Chapter 25 (view spoiler)[A few things I love from this chunk:

Ehren essentially sending Aquitaine to his death. I just love that moment when Amara realizes the way Ehren phrased his comment, that it would act as a jibe and send the operating First Lord into a battle he couldn't win...

Magnus ferreting out Fidelias, and then Kitai showing Tavi what a dunce he is being to waste him... this is part of why the introduction of Fidelias in book 1 really bothers me... it just doesn't set him up for the amount of import the character has, or is shown to have, in the rest of the series... his arc is pretty awesome, overall. Chapter 38--(view spoiler)[I love the logic Tavi uses to say that he and Kitai are already married. And the plan they make for their child, to overturn the unfair rules of bastardy. (hide spoiler)]

Wow, you guys are flying through! My new goal is to start on Saturday. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, technically giving me a three-day weekend to read.

Generally, each month, I'm signed up for at least half the Buddy Reads, plus a dozen weeklies not appearing on the list because they're in shared threads or book club threads...

I read 50 books last month... a little dizzy at that thought. Definitely sprinting through everything. But the books are such a comfort, I don't want to stop...

Finished my read this morning. I absolutely love the epilogue, and the climax is so action-packed... really feeling that same thing you mentioned, Iain... wishing Butcher would revisit this world again...

I'm through chapter 3. So many things are going on it feels like a blur.

With the situation between Tavi & Kitai, (view spoiler)[ I wish they had that sorted out earlier, and I hope it doesn't negatively affect important things. I understand her (and Max's ) points, of course, it just doesn't seem like the time. It would have been wonderful if they had landed back home as a united front. I'm not looking forward to romantic strife - I don't like or enjoy it, especially if it can be avoided or resolved with an honest conversation or two. (hide spoiler)]

The appearance of (view spoiler)[Alera was a shocking but welcomed surprise. Her training Tavi was amusing. I'm very curious as to her relationship with Sextus. Did he heed her counsel? (hide spoiler)]

I'm also curious as to what will happen between Marcus and Magnus.

I hope Amara and Bernard officially adopt the girl.

I'm most anxious to see what happens when everyone knows Tavi is back and the factions meet.

I just finished Chapter 5.

- I wish Tavi had thought of the water gesture before Varg, but the message got across well enough, I guess. I now wonder how it affected the other sightings.
